Return to the Ruins of Post-Apocalyptic Moscow In the Sequel to 2010's Cult Hit, Metro 2033
AGOURA HILLS, Calif., May 26, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) - THQ (THQI) today announced that the hugely anticipated sequel to 2010's multiple Interactive Achievement Award finalist, Metro 2033, is scheduled for release in Calendar 2012, for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.
Metro: Last Light will immerse the player in the haunting, desolate ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, one of the most richly detailed, and beautifully realised gaming worlds of modern times. Developer 4A Games will deliver a terrifying, atmospheric single-player adventure that fuses thrilling combat with exploration and survival horror to create a unique, memorable experience.
"We believe that Metro 2033 was a flawed masterpiece," said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. "It was a beautiful, original game that didn't get the marketing support it needed. We won't make that mistake with Metro: Last Light. This game improves on the original in every way - it will have more polish, deeper and more sophisticated gameplay, and satisfyingly visceral combat, without losing what our fans loved about the original. Metro: Last Light is another artful piece of game development from an Eastern European studio that will thrill and terrify anyone looking for a more cerebral experience than your typical first person shooter."
Metro: Last Light pitches the player into the midst of a desperate civil war for control over a doomsday device that threatens to destroy humanity forever. The epic single-player campaign and unique multiplayer experience will benefit from the extraordinary lighting, physics and destruction made possible by Metro: Last Light's bespoke 4A Engine technology.
Metro: Last Light will be unveiled to the public at this years' E3 Convention with a live gameplay demonstration.

I loved the crap out of 2033 despite the terrible terrible gameplay, if they can fix that while keeping the atmosphere intact thent this could be yesyesyesyesyesyesyes
(Also keep the fuckawesome DX11 graphics please, don't skimp on graphical quality for the consoles' sake please)
...that will thrill and terrify anyone looking for a more cerebral experience than your typical first person shooter.

I haven't played Metro 2033 but it's on the top of my "Must Have" list right underneath BF3. And since Metro is already out, I can buy it as soon as I can play it.

Metro 2033 had clunky gunplay but it didn't bother me that much. Was a very good game. Can't wait for this one.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was also very clunky, but it did well enough to spawn two stand-alone expansions and even has a TV series in the works in addition to a proper sequel.
Dem Russians/Ukrainians know how to make good games. They are also the best at creating atmosphere. BioWare, Bethesda, and id think they are good at making atmosphere? They could learn a thing or two from their Eastern Bloc counterparts.

Metro's atmosphere was extremely well done. It felt dank, it felt cold, it felt terrifying to be alone. I loved every second of it. I can't even begin to describe the feeling when I first encountered a Librarian.

But that studio didn't make grand claims of epic atmosphere. That aside, that video made me want to play "The Library". I actually like that level.

Throwing knives offer a guaranteed silent kill, as do lethal and non-lethal melee takedowns: but all of these require that you catch your opponent off-guard, and that means traversing the level carefully. Most light sources can be shot out, and electric lamps can be brought down at junction boxes scattered throughout each stage. Doing so will raise suspicion, however. Not only that, but the kind of light matters. Shoot out a lightbulb and you’ll plunge an area into darkness with a tinkling of broken glass. Shoot out an oil lamp and you risk starting a fire that will propagate freely on wood and cardboard, not only illuminating the area more but drawing every guard in the vicinity. These, you need to blow out the old fashioned way – unless a distracting blaze is exactly what you’re looking for.
Sudden darkness will cause guards to activate headlamps and torches, and these can also be shot out by a sufficiently skilled marksman. Kill a guard wearing a miner’s helmet and his light will continue to shine until you disable it, adding an element of risk to each kill and illustrating what a dynamic lighting system can bring to stealthy play.
oh my god. dynamic AI response to a loss of light and mother fucking propagating fire.

metro last light was being published by THQ, but THQ filed for bankruptcy and all of their IPs were sold off. metro and the dev team working on it went to another publisher, koch media. the march release date was when THQ was still in control of the publishing, but now that koch has it, they might have other plans or something.

So endgame was fucking awesome, and I've started a new game on Ranger Hardcore. Favorite weapons still stand as the Valve (bolt action rifle) and the Lolife (semi-auto pistol).
Of course for RH I think I'm going to focus on high damage out-put slow firing weapons, I'm going to grab my RPK, Duplet and Magnum (buttstock, acog, silencer) and roll with that.

I can't confirm this first hand, but I was in a skype call with a friend while he was playing 2033 when he first encountered librarians. He shot the thing in the head 3 times and it died. I was sitting here grinning, waiting for him to freak out at the librarians, but instead he was like "wait, what librarian?"
As much as I loved it, Volt driver is OP. Also I don't think it's in last light. I also haven't seen that belt-fed auto shotgun. There is a saiga 12 that you can upgrade to have a 20 round magazine. It functions basically the same as the auto shotgun, so I think the wiki might be wrong. I don't think theres a belt-fed shotgun in this game.
That all said, im with teek. I fucking love the lolife. I think i had some incarnation of that thing throughout the entire game. I also found the upgraded saiga 12 to be very useful. I kept a kalash 2012 on hand to make use of the silly amount of 5.45 ammo I had, but I never really used it much. A silenced lolife destroys everything aside from mutants.
One thing I'm noticing is that my 5.45 weapons (Kalash, Kalash 2012, RPK, etc...) will just randomly switch to gold ammo without me initiating the switch. I think it has something to do with having more gold bullets than dirty bullets. I've gone through a good 50 - 60 rounds of gold ammo without realizing it.
I also want to bitch a little bit about the AI and some mechanics in general, but I'm going to save that for another post.
This game is fantastic though. It's intense as fuck, and I was so immersed throughout the entire thing that I was actually finding myself sneaking through my house in the shadows when I would go take a piss while playing. The combat has been thoroughly upgraded and the whole experience feels a lot smoother. I can run this on high with minimal frame drops. I was pushing very high for a little while, but I was getting some brutal input lag that made it difficult to play. Dropping to high fixed that.
Warsaw

The Volt Driver is OP, but it has its limitations. It's the best at taking out the plasma slugs, but it can't do it indefinitely because it has to get charged.

Less well than it might have had they not done the whole "Ranger Mode is DLC." Don't care how good the game is, I'm not buying it until it comes way down in price just so they can't see the extra margin on that. Difficulties as DLC is not okay.
PenGuin1362
May 24th, 2013, 03:32 PM
There's an article where they explain the reasoning on that and they are basically correct. Besides if you pre-ordered the game was only $40 and you got the ranger dlc. It was either a super hardcore difficulty, or some other DLC that would have affected gameplay more.
Warsaw
May 24th, 2013, 04:20 PM
Considering the addition of hit-markers and whatnot to the base game, Ranger is the only mode I would have played. I was not in a position to pre-order the game, and I am not paying extra post-release for it.
PenGuin1362
May 24th, 2013, 04:34 PM
Yeah it's definitely not ideal, especially if you don't have the money in time to pre-order and get shafted. From what I understand they were told they HAD to have pre-order bonuses so this is what they came up with.

I went into EB Games on Tuesday because they had a sale on. None of the games that I wanted where on sale. But saw that they had Metro Last Light limited edition for 90NZD. I bought it, it got me the game, the ranger dlc, and the Metro 2033 book. The game with the ranger DLC on steam works out at ~90NZD as well. So I'm pretty damn stoked. Also runs better than the last game too.

Has anyone gotten the Tower DLC? I was doing fine up until I got to Nosalis'. The hardest setting for them was a breeze for them, but I can't beat the lowest setting because of the bullshit amount of sonic versions there are. I counted 6 at a time on the upper gantry's.
Six? When I have eight to ten clawing at my face? What horseshit is that.

you can kill people, but mostly you shouldn't assume you can get 10 kills in the game total
what ALSO matters, is that you don't shoot as many of the creatures as possible, mostly they won't attack you until you attack them (the dog type creatures at least)
also find as many as possible hidden areas, give money to the beggars, etc, what also counts, is listening to people's conversations.
basically, when you get the 'white flash effect' on your screen, you get a + good point.
i've got the tower, but i've not tried it yet.
edit: just gave it a quick spin, but it seems to be 100% combat focussed, no stealthing, and so far i've only played the game in stealth, so i'm not great with active combat, couldn't beat the first mission.
also i was playing on ranger hardcore, might have to tone that down a little i guess.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=146319410 Follow that guide for the good ending. Also if your going for the Shadow Ranger Achievement I recommend an Easy level play through because the only person you can kill is the flame thrower man at the end. I tried on Ranger HC, and once you get to The Chase its near impossible unless you manage to get to the train with a full medkit, on easy however its a breeze.
Also it is possible to get the good ending (Going for all moral points) and only kill the flamethrower guy, and damn satisfying to achieve.
