Hahahah, sorry its just funny - I definetly won't be able to afford a new place for at least 5 years and in all honesty I may never be able to (thanks America!). House prices are a joke, deposits are a joke. Getting on the ladder is impossible.

But congrats tho, rob opwar owns his own.

What do you mean "Thanks America?" Thank your GBP being too powerful and your taxes taking away too much of what you do earn. Also thank the over-urbanization of Europe in general, which leads to most living space near the jobs being at a premium.

Um, US banks caused the economic crisis, fact. They were reckless and the regulators were absolutely shit. I read somewhere they were loaning people 200% on their mortgage, to people that would never be able to pay the money back.

Average house price in US is $259,000 (£158,195). Average house price in UK is $380,852 (£232,628). Thats a difference of $121,852, thats $8,000 dollars below HALF of our prices.

There is two deposit costs over here, first one is to tie both parties into the sale, this is usually 10% of the house price. The second deposit is dependant of what mortgage rate your given. If the house costs £150,000 and you have an 80% mortgage, meaning £120k, you will have a deposit of £30,000. The first amount is subtracted for this, so the total amount you'd have to pay (deposit wise) is £30,000....Thats $49,114 money you have to pay up front in full. - That is for a dirty cheap house price too, you can easily add another 20k to that.

Can you now see our outrage?

Typical mind set though, America never takes the blame in its downfall. Least have the decency to accept it.

No entity in any time period ever has. The Soviets sure didn't think communism was at fault, the Brits sure didn't believe that oppression was at fault, the French royalty did not think their lifestyle was at fault, the Byzantines didn't believe their resistance against Islam was at fault, the Romans didn't believe that all of America's current faults were the problem, the Greeks didn't think that their destruction of Sparta/infighting was at fault.

Just saying its not just an American thing.

Back to home ownership: My parents just made the final mortgage on their house. They are super excited. Its really a cool thing when all of the home owners in your family completely possess their property.
BTW Bod, you should post some pics man. I am curious to see your glorious conquest (aka 30 years of debt).

El Oh El for not seeing the big picture.

US banks failed. Fine. But your economy was sucking before the banks failed and you relying on us only made it worse when we did fail. Why is your economy sucking? Something called cost of manufacture. Nobody buys British goods because they cost so damn much to make. That's why we all buy Chinese. Hell, even stuff made here probably costs less to you than it does to buy your own. And this problem doesn't just apply to the UK, it applies to the continental Europe as well. Global economy is not and never was a good idea.

I'm not trying to defend the United States. I don't honestly give a damn if you insult our banks, they fully deserve it. But I've seen a lot of this coming from across the pond and they are always hating for the wrong reasons. Hate all you want, but do it in an informed fashion.

Bod: Pics. Am interested in the basement especially. =o

When you say "Homeowners", my mind immediately jumps to "Home Owners Association", which then immediately puts me at red-alert. I fucking HATE HOAs. The last place I lived in had some really fucking retarded old folks governing it, with no job, so they had all the time in the world to make stupid regulations that I hardly ever saw as being enforced on the majority of the neighborhood. The one before that wasn't as bad, but FUCK anything that gives the chance of corruption to occur.

People who want to feel important. We had one of those, but we always got away with stuff because I was porking the head of the HOA's daughter.

I actually call my basement a dungeon as well, but we have a particular term for that location of a house if it is for hiding from tornados: shelters. Basement is the blasé name for dungeons/cellars.

Also, fuck HOAs. Arrogant assholes. If I pay my dues, I can do what I want to MY house. I don't care if my choice of colour doesn't match my neighbour's.

I could have bought a Deluxe. They are cheap, afterall, but no other houses had a view like this. There is that one Deluxe near the end of Waterbank road (where the ramp leads up to the main level) that looks out on the Lune River, but I don't like the direction the house is facing. Besides, I like my own little secluded corner of Middle-Earth.

In the left corner we have 2 basement sitters which think they live in a proper home even though it's mortgaged by the bank
and
on the other hand we have angry englishman who thinks living on a big island and winning the commonwealth games makes him something special

Fact is, there is no big difference between America and England...England has only been doing shit for the last few years...and for War and Tyrant....England is not part of Europe :P

and for me...soon I am going to study in east germany....hopefully the apartment won't have thin walls so I can't here every shit my neighbor is doing :P

Seriously though, if you aren't making enough money. Find a new job. You're not going to be able to live on your own making minimum wage. Don't let Obama fool you. If you say you can't because there are none you don't deserve one. There are plenty. My current employer wasn't hiring for my positio but I kept applying and when my portfolio and art test was good enough they hired me
