I don't know. This game seems to have the potential to be good, bad, or anything in-between. Wait and see for me.

I've never seen a game so fucking detailed and beautiful run so fucking smooth. The shotguns are immensely satisfying to use and the buggy combat is awesome, if not a bit awkward at first.

Haven't gotten that far in but so far gameplay is solid.

This is the first time I've had a brand new PC game run this well on day one. With the exception of some blurry textures on smaller objects, this is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.

haha holy shit there's so much RAGE on the internet about rage.

basically, rage is just another terribly-ported console-game.
the game doesnt auto-recognise most gfx cards, which makes the game run with 0mb Vmemory, forcing everything into the lowest texture setting etc.

there is SOOO much broken and busted in this game (FOR PC, consoles are fine)

Good thing I got it for my brobox :iamafag:

Tried multiplayer and it was really fun, some maps are meh but overall it's solid. Still need to get the hang of whipping my car around...

No real problems on my laptop. The textures load is less noticeable than Halo 2, and also when a game looks like this:

Honestly, this game's optimization is just stellar. Also I don't thing I've ever had this much fun with a double barreled shotgun in ages. Another also, Sentry bots are fucking awesome (uses a mini-gun and will actively seek out and KICK your enemies.)

So I beat the game last night, it was very interesting. I liked the reprisal of a certain weapon we've seen before from ID, however the final confrontation was exceedingly easy. Especially if you have an ample supply of pop-rockets (which I always do because they're amazing.)

Yeah, that seems to be the trend these days. Final bosses used to be the biggest challenge in the game, now it's usually just a gratuitous free kill at the end.

Shame how shotgun is pre-order gun only.

I also heard it has an awfuly limited graphics settings, and like Neuro said it a ton of gfx issues.

I've been pretty bogged down by school work lately, so I only just got the Cuprino, but this game has some of the BEST character animations I've ever seen in a first person shooter. Every non-regular civilian has their own distinct animations that define their character. That's an excellent attention to detail.

Just reached level 10 in multiplayer, the Monarch chasis is REALLy powerful but it's slow as fuck, once I mount it with pulse guns though it won't matter.

EDIT:
Welp, not getting this game.

This is why I refuse to play JKII with you. Why should I bother learning to play that game with you, when you won't ever give any of these new titles (that are actually good) a chance. Yes I know it's because of the stupid limited pre-order bonus's but I honestly don't care. It's ONE GUN.

They will be adding more video settings soon.

"We are still evaluating which options to surface in the update but currently we've added:"
1. Texture Cache [ Small | Large ] which alternates between 4k and 8k pages
2. Texture Anisotropy [ Low | High ]
3. VSYNC [ Off | On | Smart ] "Smart" will only be available once future drivers come out that supports the extension so Off and On are the only options when the patch initially hits.

Yes I know it's because of the stupid limited pre-order bonus's but I honestly don't care. It's ONE GUN.Actually its not just one gun, the pre-order also gives you the best armour in the game right off the bat, which means its pointless to even bother leveling up/gaining armour as they will always be inferior. You also get more powerful fists, which are way too over powered.

I know, the game has more controller options than gfx.

Yes thats nice, but why on earth was it not there before? All of Id's other games had a wide range of gfx changing options.

I see a lot of new games are using the option of "oh we will add that after release patch", why did they not add it in during development? First impressions play a massive role in peoples mind. I would have my impressions perminantely tainted if I had bought Rage. I would always feel "oh, they only do things when users beg" and I would wonder what else in the game is inherently bad.

Because I utterly despise 'bonus' weapons in any form? I don't care if it's coming through DLC or not.

Hey, let's re-release JK2 except this time you have to pre-order to get Force Pull!

Or, you could BUY it through DLC later!

I agree. I hate the preorder bonuses you get, the worst is the ones where you need to buy it from specific shops for specific bonuses. I end up seeing it as "great I'm missing out on that other gun and other cases" (LA Noire as example).

I always see it as "If you preorder now you'll get Sir Reginald Derpinhiemers' ravesaber! It has all the same stats as a regular lightsaber, but this one'll give you a seizure!"

Most of it's just cosmetic stuff anyway.

Pooks, if you stay in that mindset, eventually you're going to find yourself missing out on alot of great games. I don't buy DLC either, I just tend to ignore the promotional items and play the game.

And none of them worked on any of my computers. I'd try to raise the resolution in Doom 3 and the game would immediately default to the lowest settings. At least this time everything is-hopefully-already maxed out by default.

Nothing wrong with them if they're done properly. A good current example is the Power Sword for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. It's optional DLC through the Steam store, but it's basically just a cosmetic change to the Chain Sword.

Cosmetic changes are fine. Entire new weapons (shotgun...) aren't. As for missing out on great games, meh. I'm not all that interested in buying new games anymore anyway. I've grown up, have a life and a job and a car to worry about. I don't really have the time to spend on every new release that comes out. I'll still buy some if they're good enough to warrant it, but something like pre-order weapon bonuses is enough to make me lose interest.

This game looks really neat, but I don't really feel like shelling out $60 for it just yet...I'm with Donut on waiting for a Steam sale (because hell, it's bound to happen soon enough). I can wait.

Also, here's a neat comparison shot I found between PS3/360/PC:

:v:

Warsaw
October 9th, 2011, 11:51 PM
Either gamma settings on the 360 version need to be adjusted, or the PS3 genuinely looks better. Obviously, the PC version is superior to them both, so I won't include it in the comparison assessment because that would be unfair.

Fuck Bethesda.

Holy shit, that was one of the best intro cinematics I've seen in a long time. It was strangely emotional at a deep level, an effect that BioWare strives to achieve but fails miserably at doing so.
That intro is up there with J.J. Abrams's Star Trek.

Finally got this game working, patched, and reconfigured to my liking, and now it actually runs. So far my thoughts are similar to my thoughts on the crysis series- gorgeous graphics, but I'm so-so on the gameplay and story so far. Granted, I'm barely an hour or two into it, but it feels like a more realistic, far prettier Borderlands. In fact, I'd agree nearly 100% with Yahtzee's recent review (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/4824-Rage?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=videos) of it.

And good god it shouldn't be this hard to get a game running correctly. Ever. And that texture popping can go screw itself. That being said, it looks damned good at full settings (except for AA) and 2048x1152. Anything above 2x or 4x AA on these settings lowers the framerate to about 2FPS, but I figure at this resolution it doesn't matter much anyway.

Fine game, you win for graphics.

And I've been seeing these wonderful glitches from time to time:

That doesn't look like a glitch... that looks like your graphics card dying.

October 19th, 2011, 08:59 PM
Yeah, that's a dying graphics card if I ever saw one (and I have, even had an adbot bump a thread by pirating my post).

Siliconmaster
October 19th, 2011, 09:26 PM
Hah wonderful. The card is pretty darned new, so I can probably get a replacement. And now that I think about it, Borderlands has been acting fairly odd lately.

Warsaw
October 19th, 2011, 10:42 PM
If that glitch doesn't show up in any other game, rest assured that it's RAGE hating on AMD graphics. Am I remembering correctly that you have an AMD card?

Siliconmaster
October 19th, 2011, 11:06 PM
Nope, Nvidia. And sure enough, weird stuff has started happening in other games. Found some similar glitches in Halo 1 when I loaded it up. Time for an RMA request from EVGA.

Warsaw
October 20th, 2011, 12:27 AM
Mmmk. Definitely the card giving out.

Interestingly enough, my old EVGA 7800GT OC has been doing that since I got it, as do all EVGA 7800GT OCs, and it's still just fine.

i spent 2 days fucking with my pc before it would actually run Rage at an ACCEPTABLE framerate and not have my screen blink black a few times every second, so yes.

the reason this game is named rage, is the amount of PC gamers RAGING at it
(and keep in mind i can run crysis maxed out just fine)

I can run pretty much any game out right now at max everything (except metro 2033) and get ~60 fps, this game I get a slideshow no matter what I do. So yeah, fuck id and fuck rage.

What can we say? We all knew that Carmack sold his sole to Apple consoles a long time ago.

AnandTech apparently hasn't had any problems with the game. You'd swear that id just tested it on high-end systems using professional cards or enthusiast gamer cards and called it a day.

And again, typical Bethesda. Release a sloppy mess of a game on launch day and hope that its core mechanics are likable enough that people stay until you patch it.

my gfx card was the absolute top-of-the-line when i got my PC about 2 years ago. (GTX295) and today still runs everything maxed out without a single problem (no dx11 though)

i'm a far cry from tech-nub, and i still had an unreasonable amount of trouble getting this game to even RUN, let alone to run WELL and stable.
i can imagine anyone not so tech-savvy having given up LONG ago.

I have a GeForce 7800GT and I, too, can run almost all games at maximum settings. Hell, the only reason I can't run BC2, RO2, and a few other titles is because I have a single core CPU, not because my graphics card isn't up to the task.

I'm not denying that the game is giving people trouble and nor am I calling anyone tech inept (why would I do that on Modacity of all places?). I was simply pointing out my discovery that official reviewers have not had trouble and since they all seem to be using systems of a higher-caliber than most people, it almost feels like id only tested RAGE using top-end consumer hardware. Operative word: feels. RAGE is a bungled release on PC. No two ways about it.
