So if you want to play a BluRay movie on your PC, you need to acquire somehow the AACS keys (which most softwares, regardless of AnyDVD or WinDVD, do automatically). Is this also necessary for BluRay players?

Missing the days where you put a piece of tape on a VHS to remove the write protection.

What's the problem if the program acquires the key automatically?

I guess it's a problem if he doesn't have an internet connection active

...or if the key is not out yet/updated by the company responsible. Yes, happened to me yesterday.

So, what happens if you own a BluRay player? Do you have to manually update the keys as well or those drives "signed" somehow?

They must be signed, not everyone hooks their bluray player up and updates it all the time. At least I don't think they do.

Sometimes I've run in to my Sony bluray player throwing a fit if I don't update it.

Stopped updating my Blu-ray/HD-DVD drive when they killed the ability to play HD-DVDs via firmware. Assholes.

Blame the HD-DVD people, it's their legal lock-outs preventing Blu-ray players from playing HD-DVD's.
