K, this isn't finished yet, and the main reason for that, is because I've been asking people ALL FRIGIN DAY (since 9 am, tis now 6 pm fyi) to get me a good side shot of the spiker in 3rd person, on the ground. There are details in the side of the gun that are indented so you cannot see in them in first person.

Note: The gun doesn't have a normal, specular or any other map YET that the halo 3 one has, so don't go "ZOMG ITS NAWT SHINEE LAIK THE HALO 3 ONE" on me k? In good time. You can also see a slight uvw wireframe over the texture, because I have the uvw as a transparent layer over the top, and there are parts that are allready coloured that aren't finished yet. The entire texture is subject to refining before I consider it finished.

First I'll highlight the areas I cannot see and hopefully one of those lucky people who got the beta can get off their royal asses and get me one little screenshot.

^ I need a picture of the gun in the same view as that one. Dead side on so I can see the side panel with screws thats indented away from sight (the grey area in the middle). It needs to be 3rd person, preferablly not being held by another player (so I can see the trigger area) and well lit sitting on the ground so I can see the areas I can't see at the moment.

Also, the clip will be on a seperate uv map, its just got a lambert shader on it now so don't start going "WTF WHAI IS IT GRAY".

and yes, it will be in SPV2, replacing the old spiker tags (wich Masterz is also redoing)

The old spiker tags may be released open source. I'm not sure, I remember Masterz talking about it. Don't hold me on that one.

How about making completely custom details?I'm with Elite. Make the spiker your own. Put little details not in the H3 one on it. Try not to be limited by what bungie do. As it is, it looks really good though. Another great skin from Dane.

the old spiker projectiles are wrong also in betalicious when he thorughs the trip mine and the grenade the guy attacking him had dual spikers pause at 2:07

ok, what white cylinders, please if your meaning the discs on the blades, its all their buddy, look again. The white lines underneath the rings in that picture, are caused by light, i'm not skinning those in. Infact theres extra rust detail there on mine.

But if by white cylinder your refering to the clip:

ok, and to the people who are saying, make your own details. I'm going for accuracy. If wan't to make a custom one, I'll do that later. If you guys wan't to put flames on your warthogs and stars on your Assault rifles in Halo PC, thats fine by me, but don't expect me to do that.


I'm also not doing my blades the same as bungies, because I simply don't like them. When the spiker is finished, I'll make a different coloured varient with loads of extra details for all you CUSTOM CUSTOM CUSTOM bandwagoners. Please, making this shit is hard, I put a great deal of effort into it, to make sure all you people will enjoy it and then to have it spat back in my face because It's not original is kind of annoying. This spiker will be used in Halo 3 mods designed for total accuracy. So i'm doing it accurately.

I say the magazine is a bit large. True, the one on the actual spiker isn't that convincing, capacity-wise, but it looks better when it's flush with the rest of the weapon. Besides, since when has bungie realistically loaded their magazines? Think H1 AR. That magazine is in no way large enough to hold 60 7.62 caliber rounds. I dunno, maybe there's a white hole in the bottom of it?

It could also be that the spiker's magazine is a tank of molten metal, which is drawn up into the gun and fired as a solid projectile. Science behind the Needler, anyone?

halo takes place in the future anything can happen =p. maybe rounds get smaller in the magazine and expand when shot

Spiker contrails had a light volume in the brute vidoc. I've been working on making our spiker to the real game since I got the beta. You guys will all :XD: when you use it.

I hate to inflate my ego here, but my customed up spiker looks better than bungies one. Not so much the colour is better, since tha's personal preference, just the extra details. More lights and lines and grooves and slits and stuff.


Also, unless anyone objects, I'm thinking of making the halo 3 Rocket Launcher and PR. Just cuz I want to. They look shiny. Though, I doub't I'll be able to improve on them any further, seeing as bungie has tried the same, and they've pretty much done the best that can be done to bring a new look to those old favs. I will try though. Also you people don't seem to realise my CMT ar isn't the halo 3 one. It's loosely based on it, but the handle and that is much different, and I originally had the grip as a rubber material, like the halo 1 AR, and not metal like the halo 3 one, plus theres some other stuff on the halo 3 one i didn't want on ours.

incase you haven't noticed, halo 3 s one is actually quite low res, it looks about 512, it's the normal maps that give it more detail. You'd know that if you actually looked at it in a screenshot. It's not uberly detailed, it's just shiny. It doesn't matter though, because 90 percent of the time your away from the tv screen playing. With PC games your right up to the screen, so detail counts, and I've packed as much detail into a diffuse skin for the resolution im at as is possible. Anymore texture and it's just goign to get worse, tbh. There is such a thing as overtexturing something, you need to know your limits sometimes.


You haven't even seen mine with a specular and normal map yet. Don't judge mine on the halo 3 one yet when it's not in even playing fields. I said that in the first post, in case you forgot to read that part.

Oh, and don't make me bring up that "Hi Def pistol" skin you made for halo PC

Possibly because the textures are done by professionals who do it for a living and have been doing so for years. I find it quite amazing that Dane has managed to get so far in such a short amount of time.

Using the Halo engine to render a Halo 3 spiker is like a Dalek trying to climb stairs. There are limitations. Don't criticize the skin. It's a shaderless render. Even when it gets into halo, it'll still suck compared to the one in Halo 3, simply because of the Halo engine's capabilities, or lack thereof.

You know what, Pred,I think your just pissing me off on purpose, because it makes you feel somewhat Important. But in all seriousness now, I think you've had enough fun, so for your sake, until you can learn to read, consider yourself officially ignored.

Just remember this:

The halo 3 spiker is in a situation which far more compliments it's assets. It is literally covered with several different kinds of visual enhancing shaders and is existing in a graphics engine that far more compliments those assets while mine CURRENTLY does not have those assets, save the basic coloured texture, and 2 ambient lights in a scene in Maya.

Theres also the small detail that I happened to mention in my first post, had you bothered to read, that said MINE ISN'T FREAKING FINISHED YET.

Wich was the whole point of me making this thread. I need a reference pic of the side, and decided to show what I had so far to give people incentive to want me to finish it. It.Is.Not.Finished.
I'm all for you judging it once I've considered it finished, in fact, I welcome it, for it only helps me grow. But until then, learn more about what you think you know and quit hassling me because I said that one crappy little pistol skin you filtered together was bad. I will not sugar coat. It was bad, and it was finished. I can't call this skin bad or good at the moment, I'm just asking you to quit ignoring facts.

skin needs a bit of work, but I know it's a wip and wil be made of both win and pwn.

One thing I'd suggest is try some underlying transparent layers with slight orange and stuff hues, get a slight colour variation in there. Also, you might wanna tone down the sharpen filter look a bit, and sort of turn the white scrape edge on the front more broken up, instead of a perfect white line. Looking really good. I've love to see you have a crack at making the lolhueg missle pod :d

Leave the portable turret alone. Since it was CMT's idea first (Bungie announced it in Halo 3 long after CMT said it would be in Halo CE) they can model it themselves. And let's also remember, this is Custom Map Team, not Halo 3 map team. You guys don't have to do everything the way it is in Halo 3. (as in, the models can be original, more than just the one for Spartan III's.)

People need to go on and get off the fucking bandwagon. We make this shit because we wanted to, because its fun and we're increasing our skills trying to make the stuff the professionals have, and make it work and look just as good, if not aiming higher. You have no idea how different and fun halo 1 is with this new stuff in it. Spartan lasering down dropships and banshees, spikering flood, fighting brutes who don't give you a dam break, its just FUN, and thats why were doing this.

We are not Ripping map team, we obviously made the content ourselves, and at no point claimed right of idea.
We modelled, unwrapped skinned animated tagged and got ingame to a point where in comparable to other mods, we've done the job WELL, and that requires a HELL of a lot of work, work that you people don't seem to understand. I slave away at my PC till 2 am, making texture after texture, Teh Lag gives up free time to animate all day, people give up there free time to model for us and help us in all sorts of ways (i forget, theres too many of you to name) and masterz constantly has to cop everyones shit whenever someone doesn't like something we've made and though he doesn't physically create much, he gets us to get shit done, and is responsible for how things work in the game. He knows his HEK, and we need him. I'm in this for the whole team experience, we make our own models and skins and animations, from a few shitty little screenshots bungie release, and we do it well.

Just grow up, and if you don't like how we've put effort into our stuff, then don't play. Simple. I don't see people bitching about this sort of shit when h2ce was around, they were ripping bungies IP weren't they? They actualy didn't even come close to making the content in the quality we have achieved, and I don't mean that in an egotistical way, I mean that in an honest way. The maps were fun, but the weapons and bipeds looked like shit.

But see, no one cared, because it was about the FUN.

Where the fuck is the fun anymore? It's all serious competitive bullshit now.

Leave the portable turret alone. Since it was CMT's idea first (Bungie announced it in Halo 3 long after CMT said it would be in Halo CE) they can model it themselves. And let's also remember, this is Custom Map Team, not Halo 3 map team. You guys don't have to do everything the way it is in Halo 3. (as in, the models can be original, more than just the one for Spartan III's.)

Madworkz modelled that turret because he wanted to, for fun.

I do the organizing, weapon tags if no one has beat me to it, maintain the HUD, particles effects (long as I don't have to do offsets, then it's off to leet) the shaders as well as maintaining the population of the maps (I use to populate most of them, but now teh lag likes to do them as well, I think he's done about half of them), not to mention the tedious task of bug fixing and optimization. Plus I do a fair amount of work with h2ek stuff.

Gotcha. And HOLY SHIT! That looks awesome. Seriously. Two things though. Do the spikers spikes cool from the red-orange down to the cool grey? And do you plan on updating the BS reticle to me more like Halo 3's? Or do you like it that way?

We've been fooling with it, but it hasn't looked convinving yet. We're leaving the BS reticle as is, as our nades have a slight arc, unlike the ones in h3. Also, it's alot easier for the air to be deadly, when they shots arc, than them trying to hit you dead on.

He has already said that the pics shown were scaled by l337 so they fit the original animation rigging. Apparently it's being re-rigged.
