You make it sound like we intentionally add it in...
We're doing what we can to make sp2 have higher fps than sp1.

Since CMT's mods are doing lots of things that the CE engine wasn't actually meant for, it's not uncommon for performance to be worse than that of Halo PC's when playing custom maps.
It's usually the less powerful machines that lag on uber CE mods, including CMT's, but it's not like superb hardware is needed for decent frames.
Therefore, lag in SPV2 depends on content and how much action goes on screen and so on. I don't fall below 70-ish fps but the CMT maps noticeably perform slower than original Halo PC maps do.
Still, CMT does their best to ensure that the frames don't take too much of a hit on less powerful computers. However, I doubt they'll be catering to anyone with 256 MB of RAM and Intel Extreme Graphics Garbage 2. I think a 2.5Ghz Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM and a Radeon 9600 will be sufficient for 30fps on CMT maps.

As long as you have a core 2 duo, something above an ati9700, and a gig of ram you should be fine.

I found recently that going with the Omega drivers for my Radeon 9250 instead of the original ATI drivers reduced the lag I was getting with the hunter beam guns. Makes it much more worthwhile.

The only way I lagged on the SPv1 was when I got close to a Elite and melee/shoot him. Lagged. like. a. bitch.
Same with the fuel rod beam but that never really was a problem since I always get close enough for em to melee me.

Don't worry guys, polar bear's PC was probably tested when they tried to optimize SPV1 to be not so demanding :P sorry polar.
The only time when I lag in SPv1 is if I run FRAPS (it loves to quarter my CE framerates for some reason 0_O)

With all the stuff being put into SPv2, I think the lag will most definately increase. So lower end PCs will not be able to play and might cause some average PCs trouble.

They did say that it would probably be less laggy than SPv1
KennyownsU
July 3rd, 2007, 03:17 PM
They also said that SPv2 will have huge epic battles with 40 characters or so. That will cause the framerate to go down resulting in lag. Most lower end PCs will have trouble with this and people with lower end PCs will get a very bad experience with SPv2. Also, some average PCs will be affected but not as much though. They said that there will be less lag. For who? What type of PCs is SPv2 tested on? In the end, the lower end PCs will be screwed over and so will a few others.

if you are running spv2 on a lower end pc and you are about to lag out, keep looking on the floor and occasionall throw some nades.

Yes, you can run high settings on Halo/CE and perform well on CMT's SPV2. Not only that, but games that are significantly more demanding than Halo will run well too :)
Masters, a 9800 Pro as the minimum? My initial guess was a Radeon 9600/Geforce FX 5700 - those are SM2.0 4-pipe cards with 128-bit bus and decent clock speeds. But since there's going to be tons of onscreen action, I guess an 8-pipeline card will be necessary for all the visual treats.

No less than 70-80 fps on a 7600 GT. Yes, seven-SIX-zero-zero. Halo wasn't that demanding anyway. On the Halo PC I can get over 100 fps.
While high framerates are nice, here's the thing: can the human eye really tell the difference the higher the numbers get? Sure, 20 fps is a big difference from 30 fps, but 200 fps doesn't appear to be much of a difference from 100 fps. Heck, your movie theaters screen at 24 fps.
So about SPV2, those of you with dual 8800's like KNT are...lucky.
lmao yeah PCI-based video cards are not good for gaming, heck, they lag on basic display features as well. Even modern integrated cards (Geforce 6150, Radeon X200) beat PCI-based cards (except the very best which are the Geforce 6200 and Radeon X1300). Those of you without AGP or PCI-e, you might want a new rig altogether.
Exactly how many full-sized warriors are you planning to throw onscreen at once, Masters?

Ontopic: I was thinking that exact same thing last week. Would you want a better processor and more Ram to make it run smoother? (yeah graphics card to handle more graphics on screen, but that's not included in what I'm trying to ask here) and your screen would have to have a nice video card for that ther monitor to handle 150> fps >_>
offtopic: and it's probably gonna be one hell of a lag fest on b30 and up. I've got a ATI Radeon 9200 and my comp can barely stand yoyorast with x640x480 and the rest at max. 850 MHz AMD Athlon Processor and--HOLY SHIT. 256 MB of Ram :(................anyone think I should grab a new comp if I'm going to be playing any of the new maps that are coming out? such as yoyrast v2?

RAM is excellent.
Video card is fine for Halo but you will probably lag to death if there are like 20+ enemies (not counting Flood spores) onscreen at once firing automatic weapons.
Holy crap Warsaw, I just realized your CPU and video card are exactly the same as Reaper Man's!

July 8th, 2007, 04:55 PM
You should be fine if you have at least 512 mb of ram and a video card that is in the mid GeForce 6 family or the ATI equivalent. Remember, this is still halo we are talking about, no matter how many bells and wistles are added on, it still runs on the same graphics engine. Now if you want to avoid lag when seeing a lot of units, you would need a CPU of I would say at least 2ghz, 3 to be safe.(I pitty anyone who still uses a CPU that is only in the mhz). And if you are goin to upgrade a video card, its not worth it for the money unless you jump a complete family, for example the 6200 to the 7200.
As for me:
GeForce 7600GT
3.2 ghz CPU
2 gigs of ram
I ran SPV1 with no lag, ever. Ever. My system is already overkill for it (largely because of the ram maybe and I can run Oblivion on high), and theres people here with SLI setups! Bah, you guys shouldn't even be playing halo. As for me, it's summer and I'm bored out of my mind. The only time when there were a few chugs for me was during Two Betrayals, when 25-50 or so flood all fired SMGs and BRs with glitched audio files at the same time. That has nothing to do with one's system though, it's the game engine trying to dish out everything and keep up until you kill every single last flood in hand to hand mortal kombat. So here's what I have to say, CMT please don't force out more frames by sacrificing graphics and content. If you can fix LODs and reduce polycount while making units look better at the same time, then go crazy. But don't water down the original content just so you make it so that people with inferior PCs can run it smoothly. I might be being a little selfish, but the demands for this mod aren't that high. It's time for you people to stop living in 1999 and upgrade/replace your rigs.

true, and to elaborate: for AMD chips the Ghz doesn't matter, but the four-digit number can be compared to a Pentium equivalent. So an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ is as efficient as a 3.0Ghz Intel Pentium 4. An AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ is as efficient as a 3.8 Ghz Intel Pentium D (a dual-core P4). You know the drill.
Those of you with CPUs that have surpassed the Pentium days won't need to worry.

Get all those consoles but get a computer that's not as powerful yet much cheaper. No games out there will push those SLI'ed 8800GTX's to their limits yet (I doubt even Crysis will force those cards). I think one 8800GTX is more than enough (heck the retail shelf version in Canada costs more than my entire computer).
