View Full Version : +media mysteries (water, why does it hate me so?)

Here are a couple problems I've been having with water, +media mostly...:embarrassed:
Ill list them for some reference...

1) How can i get a +media 'area' to not go across my whole map but stay where the plane was made in max. I have heard hat making a box instead of a plane helps (with fog), but can i do it with water too?

2) Also my +media water doesn't 'act like water, but just sits there like shiny plastic wrap (i used the material of +media%! ). What can i do to make it act like water, what i mean is how can i get it to splash when a grenade is thrown in, make splashing noises when i walk in it, and have real time refractions (all properties which my current +media plane does not have).

2... con't) I mean i tried to avoid + media all together by making a lane in max and just referencing my shader to it the nomal way (eg f_im ...) but when i did that i got the real-time refractions (in sapian) but when i went to package i'd get this error... (a previous thread of mine (http://www.h2vista.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4994)). :(

I have no idea on what to do so any suggestions are welcome. Thanks a lot and i appreciate any help.

P.S. ALL UNUSED FLAGS are unchecked. I made sure!:D

Again THANKS!!!

Well your waer is a shiney pease of plasatic wrap because you forgot to add the ripple bump or the animation scale.

Box will work with CE.. not sure about h2v..

and to make the water splash around n stuff, you need to have water fog underneath the water

Actually, it might not be animating because +media doesn't allow all shader templates to animate. I forget which it allows.

Ok, first of all the +media has nothing to do with the water's position. In the bsp tag there is something labelled "Height", you change this to make the water go up and down. This is used for an ocean effect such as zanizbar so the water will always be "endless", you can however add an alpha map to make it smaller. If you only want it for a small area then make a plane where you want it and add the shader to that.

Edit: Btw the +media is only for the fog.

Incase you can't find it, it's near the very bottom:

i have a shader that works in small areas. i just used the water_pool template to start. liquid_thin_water. and i really dont know how exactly it works like that but it works well. i just made another plain in max and applyed the shader location in submaterials. i also have a shader that works off +media.
