ok..
i took the smg tag made it so it wasnt read only, edited it so that it would shoot banshee bomb projectiles instead and so it would shoot faster then saved it, made it read only again then i wne tto compile it and it compiled but the map doesnt show up in the maps folder for my custom maps :(
can someone help me plz?

So there was no error at all? Check your '/.../Microsoft Games/Halo 2 Map Editor/Maps' folder and see if it is there. If it isn't then odds are it didn't compile and there was an error.

It's a checksum problem. I use to get them too when I modded H2v.

From what I understood, the game does a checksum on certain tags, like globals. For example, take the elite_mp biped tag, and referance it to something in a differnt directory, compile, and try to load the map. Won't work. I never found a fix for this, but I would suggest trying to edit the shared.map, like I did with halo ce. There's a tutorial on it somewhere.

I cannot seem to find any tutorials mentioning how to edit shared.map. Mind pointing me in the right link? Google doesn't show me a direct approach.

I should warn you, doing this to shared may cause lots of complications, including banning from Live. Don't go online with it.

If you mean do not login to live/make a game/join a game, then thats fine.
But if I wanted to release these tags, would I have to give the shared.map too?

They would need the edited shared.map to compile the map. That is, assuming it works.

There are many references to the weapon I should replace (showing on what your tutorial said to do) Which one should I do, or should I replace all of them?
