I don't trust those free texting things. Tried one before, turned out to be more trouble than it was worth.

I think Windows Live Messenger lets you text with people.

AIM will. Just message +(CC)(AC)(NUM)
CC = Country code (1 for US)
AC = Area code
NUM = Phone number
