Windows Live Won't Update/All Options Exhausted

Halo 2 Vista installs fine, though when I attempt to sign into Games For Windows Live I get the "Live requires an update" and "Error: Live cannot connect to internet" messages.
I've been to Microsoft support and performed all of the appropriate steps, including: a) switching the order of network connections, b) disabling unused connections, c) adding Halo 2 as an exception to all firewalls, and d) manually installing the October 2007 update for Games for Windows Live.
And yet, GFWL still doesn't seem to run properly. I've tried searching the forums for answers, though also had no success. Any suggestions?

Have you tried 'running as administrator', or disabling the UAC (User Account Control)???

Yes, I've tried both those options, but neither seems to correct the problem.

Well if it says live requires an update i think it can connect to the internet, are you sure you don't need a game update? And do you use more than 1 firewall?

Tried downloading the patch manually?
