I don't see how that is too short. I once made a dedicated server on Halo PC with only 6 maps and gametypes and it lasted for 2 hours...

each map runs for 30 min, and I've played all but one or two maps, and did you ever fix that web address to the new CMT forums/web site?

Time isn't what I mean, if Masterz makes the map cycle so each map is played for about 15 min, that'll cut the time in half, and he can have more game types, there isn't much gametypes to pic from, and he needs more maps, but not all of the maps have been released yet.

I don't really believe in CTF on Dissolusion. I'd rather play KotH on that map instead.
I've have not tryed CTF of dissolusion, but I think KotH or odd ball would be the two game types to pick from for team play, very fun.

that is something that really dosen't matter, Masterz can pick who he wants, and if he picked some one that is a idot, then Masterz can crash the server again, and redo the password, again, nothing hard.

He asked you to be quiet because you were annoying the living shit out of him, if I recall correctly, but you were talking so much you probably missed that. And I don't believe you were winning, either, though I could be wrong.

You probably got banned for 'flaming back' (at least you can own up to that). Doing that to an admin really isn't a good idea.

another cool thing to try is bitterbanana's FOV/3P hack. use it and zoom out slightly when using some of the weapons. they look so cool especially with the super high res bitmaps on the MA5C

suggestion for the future: if you haven't already done this, set up a separate server for the non-public betas (the ones put in the exclusive area). This way, the people here without access to the exclusive area can play the maps that are public, people can test the betas, and no one (hopefully) gets disconnected from the server for not having the non-public beta.

pooky wasnt a bad player, but ive seen him be an asshole on some of the snow grove servers (snow grovw FTW). he fileld the teleporter room with hogs (it was a amazing, i still dont get how he got all three in there every time...) so the team was without hogs and a teleporter for a few minutes. but then thats all he would do and it pissed people off. then he found out if he stayed in one of the hogs in there, then nobody would nade them to ge tthem out for fear of getting a tk.

Maybe because you had a high ping? I dunno, but a admin might have kicked you for lagging the server. I've played the CMT servers, they seem to get along good, lots of KoH, la few games of CTF, and some Slayer. It gets along alright though.

Nope, you just have to run the dedicated server software, and set up your config. That is where things can get a little dicey. To have a good server, you have to set up your config right, ie. tk autobans, cooldown times for the autobans, mapcycle, game types, etc. I used to run a dedi for HaloPC until that computer went kaplooie. I have another comp, but I have linux on it, and Im not a programming geek, so configuring it is harder than putting a cracked (o.O) XP on it.

In short the hardest part of running a home dedi is getting a GOOD server going. Im sure some folks here may be able to give you some good pointers on what to do.

Depends on location. I live in Washington state. With cable, plus the computer was wirelessly connected to a router(ie. not directly connected to the cable modem), I had folks from NY getting about 130-140 ping. If you have the dedi hooked directly to the modem, then you might be able to drop 20-30 ping. Now with DSL, that will increase your ping across the board. If you do this, have the comp thats closest to your connection running it. The primary difference is going to be seen by folks farther away. Using the comparison I gave, a NY ping might be another 100-200 higher depending on the ISP you have. If they can keep a consistently high speed, you may be able to minimize the lag, otherwise, the only ones who will be able to use your server effectively are those closest. This is normally the case anyhow, but even more so if you have DSL. Its not impossible, but folks in other countries certainly wont be populating your server o.O

EDIT: Just to clarify. When I say a good server, I mean one that has a good mapcycle, as well as some thought placed in how to set up the config file. My dedi was one that I primarily ran for my clan, and it was usually a private server, so I didnt have to worry too much about banning folks, and what-not. If you do decide to begin a dedicated server, it would behoove you to make sure that you have moderators to keep it from degenerating into a quagmire of trash-talking imbeciles who will undoubtedly come in and ruin the fun of your server. You wont need folks on 24/7, but they should be available, and able to be reached via xfire, or IM if the need arose. Just my 2 cents worth

Lol, the comp I was planning to do it on is connected via wireless, through a crappy USB reciever with only 54 kbs upsteam. I live in New Jersey, which qualifies as the very center of the densely populated east coast, but I don't think that matters anymore. The only comp that is connected directly to my router that I can use, (it's sitting right next to the tower) is the workhorse that I actually use to play. There's no reason for me to start a server on this comp since there are no other ones in my house that can play halo (and all my other games) effectively. Plus I doubt I can run a 24/7 server to begin with, with 4 total comps in my house hogging up the bandwidth at times. I think you guys can count me out of the list of people to make a CMT server...

Yeah, your not going to have a great server in terms of lag. You could probably have an awesome lan party though. :)
