Can't sign in to LIVE. No error code, just an error message.

I posted this on the bungie.net MAW forum, but they were of no help. (No offense, MAW people. I love the MAW.)

I've spent a total of two hours on the phone with Microsoft tech support trying to fix my issue with Halo 2.

When I try to sign in to GFW Live, I get an error that reads

Before I called, I tried the "solutions" on the gamesforwindows.com Live support page. (If you read them you'll discover that they aren't solutions.) The "solutions" it suggested were

I checked my account at account.live.com, and I could sign in just fine. Afterwards, I called Microsoft, and spent two hours on the phone with them. After trying many different solutions, he asked me if I had a router. Naturally, I told him I had one, and he told me that was the problem. He said I could not sign in to LIVE with a private IP address, and that I would have to bypass my router. WHAT?! I know some of you guys have been getting it to work with routers. Do any of you mind trying to help me through this?

So many people have sign-in or connect to live issues, search this forum and the forums at www.halo2.com.

I already searched both here and at halo2.com, but found nothing related to my problem. I tried to post this topic at halo2.com yesterday, but, for some reason, it wouldn't let me post. Today, however, it did allow me to post, so, hopefully, I will get some helpful responses either here or there. :)

this happens to me, i just wait for 30 seconds and it automatically signs me in =\
