Yes, do read the sticky.
I read the sticky about 10 times, and i updated all video and sound drivers, the sound still doesnt work. reinstalled, still the same. Defrag, not needed cause i just installed the game... Selective startup, none, cause halo 2 is my only program in vista. Closed ati tray tools.

Hmm your PC should have absolute no problems with the game. Try updating your drivers.
my drivers are fully updated, im at level 4 now, it sucks to have no sound in the game...
What kind of speakers do you have?
Have you properly set them up both in Vista and in game?
And Vista loads a lot of useless stuff with it, so if you didn't try the Selective Startup then think again...
BTW, I think that if you want to get ATT to work with LIVE- based games you need to disable OSD Support and ATT shared memory in general options.
I can hear everything besides ingame sounds and menu, live guide interface sounds no problem, every other game also have no problems. I have a old Altec Lansing ADA-305 speakers, which has no problem all these years. Also i tried the Selective Startup and still no sound ingame. And whats ATT?
Had same issue on my ATI HD2600 just now (may have something to do with the fact that the ATI HD cards also have sound) - went to microsoft and manually downloaded the last update patch and it fixed the problem
I had this problem. I think I just let it sit there in the depths of my program files for a month and it magically started working for me. Or the fact that I can't remember if my USB Headset made that a difference or not..
All I can remember is I didn't play it for about 2-3 weeks and I whooped it out and tried it, magically it worked.
