With BC2 there wasn't much of a connect to the MP so you could get away with playing MP first, but BF3 looks too epic to jump straight into MP action. I want some awesome story driven shit before I go into the serious zone of MP.

I'm no longer bummed that I pre-ordering through a source other than Origin and don't have the early beta access. It's the gametype on the same map. What the hell? Oh well, it's less effort for DICE now since they can roll out almost the same thing on consoles and PC simultaneously except consoles have 8 less player slots. Hopefully there are moderators on the Battlelog forums for the beta this time.

As for the map choice, keep in mind that while you alpha-goers might have already had a spin, some of us (namely, a shitload of people) weren't graced with an invite, and are incredibly excited to play BF3 for the first time, potentially for free. While the beta certainly aims to test shit out and to get people excited, starting off with a smaller map is probably designed to ease and entice all the CoD kiddies into the game so that they'll buy it, instead of warding them off with the complexity of a 64-player Conquest map.

CoD kiddies are gonna be CoD kiddies iffy, they won't buy this, it's too colourful/actually fun ect.

CoD kiddies have their heads too far up Activision's ass to buy a shooter that doesn't have the Call of Duty brand.

CoD fanboys will quit the beta after finding out that they don't get some delicious reward for having the best killstreak.

Also, I bought MoH standard edition off steam because Steam's page on MoH said it came with early beta access, but now all websites are saying only MoH Limited/Tier 1 owners get early beta access. Just checked my Steam CD key for MoH, doesn't show a BF3 beta key.

Yeah, that was Steam's bad. A lot of people got refunds do to it. Idiots. They paid for a game because they thought they would get 2 day early access to another game. Ha. I laugh even more at the people who pre-ordered MoH because it guaranteed them BF3 beta access. I said from day one that BF3 beta would be public because EA and DICE have too much to lose not to have one. I was right.

Shit, I don't think I technically meet the min requirements. My CPU is the precise minimum (C2D 2.4GHz), but my video card is an 8800 GTS 640MB, which is not as good as the 8800 GT. Oh well, I'll check out the beta for myself before canceling my pre-order. I am perfectly willing to turn every graphical feature down for multiplayer. Not so willing to do that for the campaign, but the campaign doesn't interest me.

hilariously, Steam still has the message on their MoH page saying that all MoH owners who bought before July 26 2011 get early beta access. And do they really give refunds?

don't get too confused about clock speed especially with modern CPUs. My friend's Alienware M11x uses a 1.2 Ghz ultra low voltage Core i5 and it still plays games very well at native resolution.

A 3.00 Ghz Pentium 4, for example, will be completely trashed by even a relatively old 1.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo.

there are... other ways. (and you can still easily validate and receive updates with the right steps). Won't go into too much detail here, but it's easy enough. And windows 7 is a huge improvement over windows XP, I'd recommend upgrading in whatever way possible if your hardware is up to it.

We’ve broken down the list from the conversations below into bullets to keep it as short and sweet as possible.

General Beta Info

Beta will not start at 00:00.
Between 2-3 gig beta client.
You can not UPDATE alpha client you need to re-download the new Beta Client.
Netcode is totally rewritten and new.
No level limit @ beta.
Cant join as a Squad if the Team is full so battlelog groups won’t get split.
Gameplay Info

Autoheal on all vehicle’s after 10-15sec.
Vehicles autoregeneration ONLY under 75% Health.
Unlocks are for WEAPONS not for the classes you can not unlock red dot sight on gun1 and use it on gun 2.
Operation Metro got changed and has a new Layout, thats why they want to test balance again.
You have more then 1 knife animation, from behind, on the ground and you can NOT counter the knife attack.
You can still throw grenades to hear enemys yell.
You can not cook grenades.
You can join with friends on a server.
Friendly fire is On as the default setting.
Misc. Info

You can use 3 screens if you have enough graphic power.
Next 1-3 weeks will be talking about new maps.
Caspian Border IS NOT THE BIGGEST MAP.
No Bombs on Jets.
When you get kicked you can see the reason in Battlelog.

Frostbite 2 is supposed to be the engine that pushes us into the post-DX9 era. I'm sure they could have done it perfectly for DX9 too, but didn't want to take the extra time to optimize it. I don't care. I'm glad because hopefully this will make other developers push their own limits.

Also, nVidia and ATi are releasing specialized driver profiles for the BF3 beta tomorrow. Also, many will be pleased to know that artillery strikes will be available to call in by squad leaders. There aren't any details yet on which squad leader can call it in, when it can be called in, or how it is called in. I expect other features like supply drops may be trickle down to the squad level in BF3, as well.

Valve wasn't lying, MoH standard edition owners on Steam do get early access if they bought before July 26 2011.

Early beta keys were scheduled to go live at 5 am Pacific/8 am Eastern, and I got my key about 16 minutes late, but that's fine. Just right click MoH Single Player on Steam, view CD key, and presto (note that the SP game must be installed, or at least 1% downloaded first, to view the CD key).

Download speed wasn't as good as steam, but never fell below 400 kb/s. Total size was like 3.9 GB or something,

I'll test on both my desktop (Radeon HD 6870) and laptop (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850, comparable to a desktop 5770). Also my mates' laptops (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 and Nvidia Geforce GT335M), to give lower-powered users an idea of what they can expect.

Also, for preorder guys, you need to have done so directly off Origin for early access, so if you took advantage of a 3rd party sale off D2D or something, you have to wait your turn.

so far I've only gotten into TWO matches, both nearing the end, and neither in North America.

Console players are also reporting similar issues with lack of server space.

If the CLOSED beta has totally insufficient infrastructure, I'm worried about the open beta.

I have closed beta access and I have yet to form a proper opinion about gameplay or performance because I can't play.

I dun give a fuck. I don't have time to play till tomorrow anyways.

Beta's great so far, except the servers are shitting the bed. I've been disconnected from every game i've played after about 20 minutes. haven't finished one yet.

The beta runs smoother than the Alpha Trial, but I get disconnected from servers 2 mins after joining. This annoying glitch reminds me of crysis 2's kick glitch.

I read that the only way to access settings in-game is when you're in a match and only while you're alive. That can't be true, can it?

It is. Just like the Alpha. I wonder why they haven't fixed this yet.

For some reason the tank must have stuck to my mouse and moved itself up into the skull when I clicked save. I'm trying to fix it but the emblem editor is bugged to fuck. I can't enter back into it.

I've noticed a distinct lack of LAV on Metro... What the hell? They remove the one vehicle in the map and don't give us access to Caspian Border? Are they trying to shoot themselves in the foot? Without vehicles Battlefield doesn't really have a whole lot to set itself apart from CoD.

I'm level 10+ already with my M416 unlocked heh.

LAV was OP. Cry more.

I was pissed off about this too.

I'm not too mad about Battlelog - it does have some positives. But even if I'm forced to alt-tab to Battlelog, I should at least be allowed to launch the game, go to the main menu, and set up my graphics and controls before I actually start playing. Being forced to wait until you spawn in a match before you can set up anything is just plain retarded. Also, if you're killed while changing your settings, you get kicked out of the settings menu and back into the game.

I can forgive the graphics and controls feeling buggy and incomplete - this is a beta after all (though tbh the Crysis 2 leak ran way better than this). But I kind of want to PLAY my beta, you know? And even though this is a beta, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect the technical side of things to be more complete than this, so that I can actually focus on critiquing the gameplay. After all, the betas for MoH, BC2, Crysis 2, even the leaked alpha build, were pretty close to the final product on the technical side.

You know, I was going to ask, "What happens if you die while messing with settings.", but after typing it, it looked like a stupid question. Surely, they wouldn't kick you out of the menu, I thought.

Welcome to the club, I have to play it on the console. Apparently the beta key that came with my first hand copy of MoH was already somehow registered before I could use it, so now I have to wait...WTF?
