Re: (Official Thread) Post your PC pics
You leave your side panel off on a Dell? I'm surprised you haven't died from dust inhalation yet. I swear they CREATE dust, they don't just accumulate it.
Anyway, replacing the processor is just a matter of finding out what socket you have and getting a new processor that's the same socket. You have a Pentium 4 according to your PC specs so it's most likely socket 478 or 775. Easiest way to check is to look up the actual motherboard model number (it's written on the motherboard somewhere). If you want to replace the motherboard as well, then you need to get a processor that's compatible with the NEW motherboard (same socket) and compatible with your current parts. It looks like all you'll need is a motherboard with IDE+SATA connections, PCI-Ex16 1.0 or 2.0, and whatever type of RAM you use (is it DDR or DDR2?).

Wow, that GTX 260 must be seriously bottle-necked.
So my dad's office PC has a GigaByte GA-8I945G Pro Motherboard in it with a Pentium 4 630 HT 3.00GHz as the CPU. Since the socket is LGA775, is it possible to pair a Core 2 Duo processor with it? On the motherboard box it says "Optimized for Intel Pentium D/Pentium 4 Processor." I know I can use a Celeron on it but I'm not sure if anything newer than a Pentium D will be compatible with the chipset. I've tried looking this up but haven't found any solid answers. Anyone has some answers for me?

That is the scariest bottleneck I've seen.
Trust me, your framerate would double if you just got a new computer (Dell locks the CPUs so that it's near impossible to upgrade to anything recent).

I'd look up the mobo and see if it's compatible (You might get lucky and find a customer review or something where they've used it and it worked), and you might want to look up the south bridge (or the north one-- one of those [AFAIK] controls what CPUs work and which ones don't) and see if other mobos with it work.
But it's fairly risky, and there is a chance that it won't work. I'd try anyway-- you can find very cheap m-ATX mobos that support C2D and a lot of other stuff (Don't be put off by the size-- my current gaming computer uses some $50 ASUS mATX board and hasn't failed for me yet)
In short: There's a good chance that it won't work. But try anyway if and only if you're planning on replacing the mobo as well.

Contrast Ratio of 50,000:1 and the perfect resolution to watch 1080p Movies.

The viewsonic monitor I had before my Acer was ABSOLUTE. SHIT.
I have never seen a monitor overheat like it did, and I have never seen a monitor's backlight ever fail in LESS THAN 6 MONTHS.
Granted, it was refurbished. But the screen, even when it worked, did not impress me. The default colors were way off and the tools they give you to adjust it are weird and felt really cheap.
PC is on the bottom right (can't see). Speakers go to PC. Line in on Mac to PC, virtual surround from Mac. DVI output from PC, and VGA output from Mac. I switch between screens from a button. Synergy to link my keyboard and mouse between PC and Mac with a button. Midi Controller to Mac. External HD hidden on the left. IKEA light on the right, and Halogen Spotlights (not on) above. Desks from IKEA. I detach one as a pong table :) Whiteboard on the right, hidden. Two closet-shelves (part of that whole IKEA setup thing) on top.

I don't either. There isn't enough room between the mobo and case for anything, and the way the bays are set up doesn't allow for nifty maneuvering. Also, my power supply has way too many cords and is not modular. =|

Re: (Official Thread) Post your PC pics
You should have some room behind the hard drive bays for cords, and I see open 5.25in bays where you can throw some cables. You're also using a case that has a top mounted PSU though, I've always found those to be harder to manage when it comes to power cables... You've got to go modular, it's just so nice!
(Sorry for the blurriness, camera recently decided to stop auto-focusing very well)

Re: (Official Thread) Post your PC pics
When I got my case back in '04, ones with bottom-mounted PSUs cost a pretty penny...mine was a $42 Rosewill. I had all of the cables sitting in the 5.25" bay but I had just gotten through diving into my PC to remove a dead sound card, which is what reminded me to take those pics in the first place...=D
I see that your PSU is modular, which doesn't hurt either.

Re: (Official Thread) Post your PC pics
The modular features were one of the main reasons that I got that PSU, I use all of the "hard lines" (the cords that are non-removable) and then the three peripheral cords for my optical/hard drives and accessories. I could probably do quite a bit better with my cable management as it stands now, but I'd need to grab a couple of extension cables for a few of the power cords.

I didn't show much of my tower in the last post, and I recently moved a load of shit around, so here's new pics.
Rearranged everything over to the end wall in the room to make it more spacious. Testing out my new Coca-Cola cooler (runs on household or cigarette lighter in vehicle) and instead of having my quad receiver just making more noise next to the desk, the speakers are below and to the left of the frame for rear audio. No, I didn't spill anything on the concrete under the desk, it's just stained that way.
Revel in my not-so-exciting computer with no fancy LEDs or windows, and my particularly bad wiring job. The only shiny things are the gold-plated RAM sticks which are also mostly hidden from view by a tangle of wires.

It's true, the case itself has no fans. It's just a plain Acer Aspire M1201 case. However, the PSU has dual fans, there's the CPU's heatsink fan, and there's one fan on the 9500GT.
If I set Crysis to Very High settings at 1680x1050 just to make it chug (down to about 10 frames per second, ugh), the CPU and GPU rise up into the mid-40s (degrees celsius). I'm not sure that calls for a case fan. Or am I wrong?
And Rook... is that when there's absolutely nothing going on anywhere in the building and the only thing you can hear is your own breathing? Not that it matters, I'm sure most people can easily drown out their computer's fans with a little music. Besides... if you're referring to the case you have pics posted of just above, I only see the one fan at the back that's screwed directly onto the case. Unless you're also including the PSU fan, CPU heatsink fan, and the GPU's fan...

There you go..
The CPU fan is behind the fan with the green LED, and the graphics card has a little fan too. That's 6 in all if you count those. If it matters there is a spot on the other side of the case for a 80mm fan that is empty that points to the hard drive rack.
