Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
thanks, loads of bugs to fix, gotta finish skinning it and definitely a model edit before completion ( the hologram...)
btw, this isnt just a random project to build a terminal this will be used to articulate a Marathon Man achievement award that unlocks an advantage area in a map im currently working on :thumbs up:

How is this terrain looking? I think i should fix the edge of where the grass and cliff meet.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Looks nice, the rocks and everything seem really halo-esque!
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
first attempt at actual vehicle rendering. That is also my first attempt at a vehicle model (shown here before)

I know there are manyl modeling mishaps, it's still a WIP...

I see Vrayness. Or is that Mental Ray? The glass doesnt seem like Vray.
Also.

yay for Halo-esque themed wip's
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
nope its MR...don't have vray.
Nice ball^
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
the ball looks ripped from Halo 3...
i guess the materials nice though
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
^ Lol.
Is looks a bit to high poly though...
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
The ball is custom modeled and textured. Ripping from retail is hard. And ball isn't in beta.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Nice render kenny!
soccerball looks cool to btw

Fooled me into thinking it was ripped ;)

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
wtf.. thats wierd as.
i would of just made a high poly sphere then cut it in half, textured one side and let the normal map do the rest.

The least amount of distortion is what I do.

You can't be serious... why would you rip a fucking ball?

i rest my case.

To learn how other companies model. Oh, and I suppose you don't like Zteam's work?
EDIT: I rest my case. Why? Because it was tired.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
what?!... seems like you're tryin to be agressive towards my opinion.
each to ones own.
i prefer to be a 100% custom work admirer, i have nuthing against Zteam's work... just something that has been made from scratch with all of the inbetweens from modelling to ingame (UVwrapping and texturing) i find more impressive.
Edit:
Something on topic.
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...g?t=1219868824
Its a different shade of blue to fit in with the multiplayer maps scheme.
The origional could be possibly used in SP... who knows.
its pretty much finished, may tweak the texture to make it more accurate before final release of the map i am intending this to go in.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
LOOKS MUCH BETTER. Didnt like the black.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Needs more computerized scrolling textures. Like Cortana's skin.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
elaborate please. :thumbs up:
edit: oh i see for a more holographic look...sure i guess i was really tryin to immitate Halo 3's hologram but the colours have sort of dampened through the process of compilation i may have to tweak them before final release.
ok, i got the doors UVW'd and skinned, although i feel the doors may be OTT

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
nice render.
decent model too, although I see heavy use of extrusion and chamfering for detail- i think that's permissible in this application.
boy, you really like mechs, don't you?
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Gotta chamfer, can't project the details at a 90 degree angle. And yes, I love mechs.

I got one of those sketch things, but idk if I can post it :/

They shouldn't completely disappear when shot. The top half should pop off, leaving the bottom and the exposed inside. =/
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
the bottom half will be bsp geomtery and they sit nice on top.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Look great! Cant you make them shiny? I know you guys have some word for what I am trying to say, but its some shiny map thing you guys do. Do that to make them look slimy.
Watched vid. "Breathing" like animation looks great, but couldn't you have it pop and leave the destroyed version? Not completely destroy itself?
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
possibly yeh, this is basic stage of development so i guess we'll come to some sort of compramise for this issue.
i guess a cubemap could give it that Halo 3 glossy look... all in developement thanks for the crit :D

Uh, since when? You must not be doing your loops right. Also, looks like your smoothing is really bad in some spots, might want to fix your tesselation/ngons.
Not a bad model, but I've never really had much interest in mechs, as they're mostly a collection of primitives.

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Not part of the mod, the Valkyrie's IP was taken by BT in the Harmony gold BT lawsuit and the Destroid monster was taken by harmony gold. But BT does have an alternative to the Destroid monster which is this http://ppc.warhawkenterprises.com/mechbay/stone.jpg
The Warhammer aka Tomahawk Destroid also belongs to BT.

EDIT: Tri-count: 11,678
Almost finished. The knees look better in the Max view than in the render. I think the hands might be too big...
Also, does anyone have a solution for a Windows error? All of my folders are set to read-only, but the files aren't. Is this a major problem, or something that can be fixed easily?

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Is that an actual, hardcoded, "fuck you don't go over me or I wreck your shit" limit, or not?
welp guys looks like 1/3 of my King Tiger will get into the Source engine
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
That's the polygon counts, not the tri counts. Once again, there's confusion in there. The polycount is almost 7K for Gordon.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
I believe that if there are more then 10,000 polygons (might be triangles, idk) on screen at once, then the game will crash. Not sure if that limit applies to Gmod since I know some people have gotten 30,000 polygon models into it before among other things (eg armies of zombies, etc).
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Dunno about that; I've seen lines and lines of vertex overflow errors scroll down my console in GMod while looking across certain maps, but I've also seen a lot of shit onscreen at once in other Source games and I'd imagine it'd be a lot more than 10K.

5th skin I've ever made in photoshop. Rock Skin or cliff skin is what it is.

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
That and the area right under his chest should stick out more.

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Which area under his chest?
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
the protrusion is what chains is talking about

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Oh, I see. I like it better the way I have it though. Seems more accurate to this picture: http://news.filefront.com/wp-content...-wallpaper.jpg

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
The thing is, that's where the diaphragm is located. On normal people like scientists and other non uber muscular people, the disphragm actually sticks out a tiny bit further then the actual lung section of the chest, so as constricted as that is, it looks unnatural and seems like it would hurt to breathe.
example:
http://www.ian3d.net/Screenshot/Huma...omy%20Side.jpg
Right uner the rib cage on the smooth model, you can see it sticking out further then the actual chest.

Lolwut. Triangle Count is somewhere around 3k w/o optimizing. Needs moar spots-to-put-the-bullet-in-the-cylinder-thingy and a few other tweaks.
EDIT: And rep to the first person who can correctly guess what gun this is.

My latest outrageously impractical firearm :v:
Barrel's aligned to the leftmost chamber and it breaks open in a ridiculously convoluted fashion :awesome:

-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Make more. I demand it.
Someone get that shit skinned and ingame.
-
Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Not finished yet :P
The idea is that the entire mechanism is spring loaded and opens when the hammer is pulled two clicks back, ejecting the cylinder, which is replaced with a new one. The top is then manually pushed back into place, causing the hammer to move one click forward, locking it in place and preparing it for the next shot.
Also, original design didn't hinge, but instead was fed by a magazine where the main hinge is located. Supposedly it would have used rimless ammo and shells would be inexplicably ejected when each chamber passes the bottom of the gun, where the front of the cylinder was originally exposed. There's absolutely no point to it being that way, but there's no point to a lot of the design elements of my weaponry :awesome:

Re: The Studio Quick-Crit Thread
Love the revolver exam. As long as we're toying with revolver ideas, i've got this concept for a shotgun that utilizes a revolver design, except instead of individual shells in each slot there is a magazine holding 3-4 shells. in other words it would be really strangely shaped and really awkward to fire, but it would be able to fire possibly 30 times before you would ever need to reload it. When i sketch it up i'll post pics.
