Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
got into a caspian border server for about 10 mins before game ends and I got kicked for server timeout
oh
my
fucking
god
any reservations I had about this game are gone and I want it now and not then and now would be nice and oh no there goes another pair of pants
metro's got nothing on this shit
(I'll do my best to keep the thread updated with passwords so you guys can try and get in as well; with luck, EA will just suck it up and add Caspian to the unlocked servers in a couple of days)

ROFL, you're not going to find any 64v64 FPS games on the PC.
I've had another revelation. After applying the BF3 specific ATi drivers to my iMac, I have seen a 10FPS improvement for my framerate. I consistently get into the top 5 players at the end of the round now.
Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
so i just played this for a little while, and i cant say im incredibly thrilled with it. before i even start listing this shit, im completely aware that this is a beta.
mouse control. first thing i tried to do was set up my controls. i have a 5 button mouse, and i like to use my buttons for crouching and grenade throwing. when prompted to assign a keybinding for these things, not only did my mouse not respond at all, the cursor was gone completely when i pressed esc. seems like custom mouse controls are impossible right now
collision detection. is it just me or does shit sink into the floor everywhere? the first thing i did was fall through the map, and after that i was bouncing all over the place, making aiming impossible. a few minutes later i watched a guy blow up and sink into the ground.
weapon damage. the first thing i noticed was that shit dies a LOT faster in this game than it does in bc2. i need to shoot people a lot to kill them in bc2. here they die almost instantly. at first i thought this was improved hit detection (and better latency overall), but then i realized bullets do a fuckton more damage. i got hit once and my health went from 100 to around 33. idk what hit me. the sniper rifle was a complete joke. i was shooting people in the gut and killing them with one shot every time. on that same note, the m9 took 7 or 8 shots to kill this one guy i walked up to who was standing completely still. it just seems really inconsistent. and if im not mistaken, the sv98 is just an instant kill. this one guy 1sked me with it 5 times at full health.
optimization (?). im not entirely sure on this one, but im running this game on all ultra settings at 16x AF and 4x AA, vsync on, all at 1080P. indoors it seems like my framerate is smooth and constant, but outdoors it looks like my framerate is dropping to around 20 - 30. when i look down, it goes right back up. without dropping a bunch of specs, this computer should be well enough equipped to run 2 instances of something like metro2033 maxed out completely. it runs bad company 2 at close to 130 fps if i dont lock it with vsync. it may just be that this game's graphics are REALLY good, but it seems like its kind of shittily optimized at this point.
all in all, this feels like an alpha 2 more than a beta. i like what iv seen so far (aside from prone. prone has never been a good thing), but i feel like they should fix this shit into a state where its actually playable (so like, mw2 quality of glitchiness :v:) and then do another play test to really iron the rest of the problems out. right now i just cannot see all of the big issues being resolved in one swoop with this build.
E: and the internet browser integration. no. do not want this.
Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
Just updated my ATi drivers coz the ground on caspian was black. I can run this on all high on my 1gb graphics 4 gb ram and 2.3 ghz dual cpu with atleast 30 fps. Its running smoother on High than BC2 runs on low for me, so not very CPU demanding tbh.
Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
Server maintenance right now. I can't say I've experienced anything in what Donut just said. There was an instance where I was rushing over a piece, of cover and an enemy was right behind the wall there and I instantly died. I assumed he headshot me. I sorta like the increased damage although like I said before LMG's are obnoxious, of course this is probably a personal problem on my part so whatever.
I REALLY like the M27 IAR. It just feels good to shoot.

Oh yes, yes I like that.

Got my hands on the Stinger and IGLA, too. So boss for taking out air.
Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
No weapon in this game is a 1 shot kill to the body so Donut is obviously exaggerating. However, he got the description of the collision exactly right. It's just a mess when you go prone on Operation Metro. However, I did not run into this problem on Caspian Border. I always get less FPS in the indoor areas and a higher FPS when outdoors.
And is it just me or is the holographic sight really blurry?
Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
If you're on a laggy server it can feel like you're getting one-shotted sometimes. If you one-shot somebody else, they're already taken a couple bullets.
Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
I think the biggest thing people need to learn is to burst fire, and to never EVER run out into the open, unless you expect to jump into prone or get into immediate cover. Once you're whole body is out of cover, you're fucked. End of story, have a good night.
I've run into the collision glitch plenty of times. Just don't jump prone into a hole or ontop of a rock. Prone really comes in handy though, unless you're against someone that knows how to shoot correctly (heh, not a lot of people).
Also, this is way better than the Alpha. No LAV on Operation Metro right now is fine, because it's a shitfest anyway on the first two objectives.
Caspian Border is amazing though, it feels like a true BF game. Tanks seem pretty shitty though, unless it was lagging terribly and hit detection wasn't working. I mostly got my kills in the tank off of infantry, because people are idiots and don't know who is friendly and who is foe. Stinger is hit and miss for me, I can only take out helis with it. Jets seem too fast and run away from my missile. My biggest gripe was half of the goddamn team waiting at the jet spawns, and not going for the points. I know everyone wants to try out the jets and whatnot, but jesus christ people if there's even two people waiting on them just jump in a jeep or some shit and wait that way.
All in all, beta should've been for Caspian. Metro is balls now.
Re: Battlefield 3 (9/29 - Today's CB Password: "shoppingcartsareagoodride")
Metro feels less finished than Caspian Border. Shame on you DICE.
Also, I found this in an emblem thread and I literally fell on the floor laughing:
