Three years ago, I never would have thought I'd see stuff like that in my lifetime.
I've been closely following this type of thing in the Popular Science subscription I have/had, it's really quite amazing. I would really not be surprised at all if we start seeing neural interfaces that allow direct mind manipulation of such devices in the next 10-15 years.
Have you guys read about the experiment they did where they measured the activity in very specific parts of the brain while showing the person black and white images? After a series of control images and I'm assuming a neural net setup on the computer, they were able to display the image on the screen of what the person was seeing. It was noisy and low res but you could make out big bold text.

I don't think we have anything to worry about. Even if this technology leaps forward in resolution and accuracy, it still depends on active functional scans of the brain, something you can't just do by pointing a ray gun at somebody's head. It needs to be calibrated for the specific person, which requires a level of cooperation on their part, and it needs them to stay perfectly still in a large, complex scanning device (I think they used fMRI for this, iirc).Quote:

This isn't mind reading tech btw guys, they're taking the images of what the person sees. There's no way to tell if it's the person visualizing it or if it's a recepted image from the eyes. Two very similar ideas, yet very separate parts of the brain. No need to be worried, yet.
