Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Hmm, why am I even here? I dunno, you will have to be more specific with that question. I see that any argument that I make with an opinion contrary to yours will be shot down by this onslaught of angry purism surrounding the game. So I guess its useless to try and defend it against the rage of a bunch of mustache minimalists.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Do forgive us, we've only been playing this game since 2001. Most of us know every single minor detail about it.
An example, the Private Jenkins re-animation.
Here are a few reasons why I (and others) don't like these animations.
1: When John hears the chittering of the flood, he over reacts (at least I think he does.) The entire head bobbing is completely unnecessary. What would have been more tasteful is if John tilted his head immediately to hear the noise, then brought his rifle to bear. He is a trained super solder with decades of combat experience. Most people would not expect him to act like he's on crack.
2: The finger rolling is also unnecessary. It's a charming touch but again John is too jittery. If it could have been possible, instead of the finger rolling, we could see him tighten his grip on the rifle. We still get the impression he's anxious, just not overly hyper.
3. The rest of the animations seem far too fast. I would expect him to be slightly more deliberate about laying his rifle down and examining the helmet. While the notable sigh is perfectly fine, I don't like the head shaking either. John is a soldier so we can empathize with the fate of the marine but not to that degree. Throughout the books John is seen as a very fast thinker but he's also tactful.
All in all, John seems way too hyper. Yes I know the scenery of the flood massacre in the facility works against what I just said, however, again John is a soldier. He is taught and trained to analyze a situation, not freak out at it.
My opinion: The animation seems rushed and sloppily made, and out of context.
EDIT: I think you responded to Arteen by saying:
"They aren't bad Arteen."
The fact of the matter is some of us think they are. Some of us have worked with Halo for a very long time and know how to do things right.

you mean the same assets used in reach?
Oh wait hang on second let me show you something: What if I were to tell you one of those ODST's were in Halo CE, an engine 10 years old? Still don't believe me?
Case in point, old content used in old engines can still look reasonably modern and good looking.
How ever, good content in a good engine can look drastically much better.Observe...
As for telling us to wait until we play, some of us attended Halofest during the summer...

Funny story about that picture: Halo 3 only looked half as good as that real-time rendered teaser. Damn you Bungie!

I know ._.

That's not much of an accomplishment when they are copy-pasting assets from the newest Halo games. It's just too bad that they're copying the wrong things. 343i/Saber, Reach army != navy marines. And if you're just going to copy-paste the Banshee into HA10, copy the Halo 3 banshee, not the Reach one. The art direction in HA10 is so disjointed.

On par with the newest halo games and other titles? You've either never played Reach or didn't bother to finish it. Worse yet, you probably don't play other newer titles. You're not living in another year besides 2011 are you? If you are, please tell us the secret to your time machine. We won't tell anyone else. Promise.
Do you even own a console? You realize that the lower GFX settings in a PC game doesn't represent its true GFX potential right?
The game is still 90% Halo 1 (ie, the game released 10 years ago), even when playing in "2001" mode, but again I haven't been berating Halo 1. Since you brought it up, I am reserving the rest of my judgement until I've played the game, since up until now the judgements I've been making are towards what's been shown. I'm reserving my judgement on the remastered soundtrack and whether or not their new sub-par animations/cinematics also infect the 2001 mode (which is blasphemy). They also say they haven't touched the gameplay. The people will be the judge of that, since they obviously molested some parts of the game that didn't need molesting (a game should never be molested in the first place).
Oh, and never have I used or associated with the title of "mighty overlord of modacity". Your words, not mine, Member.
The doers of this port & remake only had to do one simple thing: polish up what was already there and don't touch what people have come to know for almost 10 years. Keyes did not have a fat fucking, eerily Asian face in Halo1. The crewmen weren't sporting beer bellys and fat necks. Don't get me and others started on Johnson. I also seem to recall the Cpt also owning a pipe as well. Call me crazy. Oh, can't wait to see what other cutscenes they spilled vodka all over!

Half of the development time must have been dedicated to them building then rebuilding the entire campaign in .map format with a crotchplate-less MC to see if they should use it over one with the plate in place. All while throwing back shots of vodka. I only approve of one of those things (I'll give you a hint: it involves throwing back shots of vodka).
No complaints about the environments, but I wouldn't call them the best.

The environments in Halo CEA are the best in any halo game yet.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
I apologize for the overlord comment, but I notice everyone else seems to bow down to you whenever you comment, so I felt it was necessary. It would also be greatly appreciated if you would not treat me like some idiotic 10 year old, I have played this game since it came out in 2001, Ive been playing it on the PC since 2006, modding PC since 2007 and working with HEK since 2009. I know all of the same minute details that you do.
As for basically everything else that everyone has said, I am glad to see that everyone has such a strong opinion about how the art should look. But when you get right down to it, there is not a right or wrong way to change or update the art for the game. If a crew member seems somewhat overweight? How dare they! If a certain character has a large and bushy mustache? How dare they! It is a different art style then Halo players are used to, but it isn't necessarily wrong.
Yes they copied and pasted assets from other halo games, but a large amount of the assets are also completely custom, specifically the environments, and they look gorgeous, at-least from what has been shown so far, and I have no reason to doubt that what we haven't seen will also look really nice.
Specifically to Teekup, in one of the more recent preview videos, part of that cut scene was shown, and it was visibly less jittery, Korntheman actually commented on it. But even so, how dare the chief move his fingers!
So when it comes down to it, while all of you are over-analyzing and nit-picking over tiny details that changed, I will be enjoying the game. :)
