Well the AK-12 is an ugly motherfucker, but it looks like a pretty solid improvement in terms of actual functionality:

Dust cover is now much more solidly attached, meaning it can be used to mount optics; rear sight is now situated at the back of the dust cover, providing a much better sighting radius; stock folds and is adjustable; quad rails up front without going over the top; semiauto, 3-shot burst (ugh), and automatic ambidextrous fire selector with what appears to be the new (and also ambidextrous) disassembly latch or perhaps stock latch behind it; ambidextrous cocking handle up front; 22mm NATO threading on the muzzle; offered in 'light' (5.45x39, 5.56x45, 7.62x39) and 'heavy' (7.62x51) versions; appears to have otherwise retained the sheer rugged reliability of the AK. It also seems that the 5.45 version is just as steady during full-auto as the braked 74.

It would be prettier if they would lengthen the front handguard/rails and move the front sight back so that they join where the gas tube ends. Also, that pistol grip is horrendous and it looks like it would get all nasty in sweaty hands; I'd slap a classic grip on it if I were issued one, it looks like it would fit no problem.
Contrary to popular belief, Russians absolutely LOVE Western rail systems.
Yeah, the rail part is absolutely true. They are all about them, and putting them on all of their equipment. They don't do silly octagonal rail systems, but they do do lots of rails in convenient spots where it would work nicely.Quote:

I think the era of attractive looking weapons is more or less over. This looks like it was designed by a COD player. Prettier than a steyr though.
It looks like the bastard child of an AN-94, an AEK-971...and someone decided to staple rails to it.
How do you get the dustcover off now? I mean, you still have to clean the fucking thing...
