Pretty big, although for its size the B-17's bombload was rather pitiful. The USAAF operated on the theory of accurate daylight bombing by mass formations, so they placed more emphasis on defensive armament than capacity. The Brits did the opposite - night area bombing (though still in massive formations). Their bombers had barely any defensive guns, but could carry ridiculous bombloads.
Not sure of exact measurements, but it's not that large by today's standards.
