Last I checked, Games for Windows Live wasn't available for the Mac or iOS. If they were going to re-re-release Halo2, they wouldn't need to shutdown the LIVE servers that currently power MM unless it was just a stupid fucking update (which would require backwards compatibility, there by tying their hands) and was still going to run on the failboat that is G4WL.
No, they were going to shutdown the servers because they thought the community might not raise a stink or notice their numbers are off. But the community did raise a stink and then shoved real player counts in their faces.
sad part is they didn't officially announce that they were not going to shut it down and the population is even lower than before, and everyone thinks its offline.
i got like ~1620 unique players logged in less then a month when they announced the shut down, after were at a steady 40-50 fucking MS.
