Noticed that as well and then I read this gem.
The new b.net is up and you can now FINALLY use something other that the bullshit that is live.com to link your account to.
Also, why the fuck is this in the games forum for modding/game dev?
They are heading in the wrong direction with this new update. :\
Main pages look really nice. I like it. Also who lurks around the b.net forums? Lol. I went there for a few minutes one time and it was full of worse people than those at Halo Maps.
Yeah, I don't know why you would got to b.net for their forums
I liked checking the remnants of the old HPC board. :(
I post ship names in the Ship Names thread.
I posted there on occasion. Only a lot of Legendary Members and Mythic Members posted there, with regular noob members mixed to make the other 50%. In a way, I'll miss the forum titles, but it's a bit nicer since the titles did nothing that constructive. The only times they did were when the titles were Proper nouns like Webcam MVP or other titles denoting someone actually did something. I can't wait to see how the forums end up though. Hashtags never really suit me well tbh, not a twitter fan, but that's modernization for you. Knowing Bungie, they have the right idea most of the time, so I'm not worried. I can't wait for Destiny though.
The site is still very much in beta, don't worry about the titles...
And the thread tags are a lot better than having wasteful subforums.

Here's hoping for some video and not just some screenshots.
Or :words:
IT'S THE END TIMES. THE END TIMES!
Pretty safe bet we're getting a video https://twitter.com/bungie/status/302468064388186112
:iamafag:
I literally just dropped my drink on myself
That "From the publisher of Call of Duty" shit killed the mood, though :(
Destiny?
More like, Take-My-Money-Bungie!
amirite?
^YES
I still don't get the hype. Of the modern bungie (post H1 bungie) there is only one game I liked, and that's H3. I rather play ET for atari then suffer through H2's campaign, and Reach was great for about a month before it showed it was just a disjointed bundle of somewhat cool ideas. I hope it's good, but Bungie has let me down far more than they have met expectations.
Bungie has been under Microsofts thumb for the majority of the Halo franchise, Halo 2 was the result of a tortured development cycle.
This is Bungies first game that has been 100% Bungie since Halo CE.
You could make that point, but the bungie of 11 years ago is a completely different studio than that of todays. Also Halo 2 is Bungie's own fuckup, they had 3 years to do the game, they jut didn't manage their time correctly and didn't know how to operate as a large studio. Hell, it came out not even 12 months away from the xbox 360 launch, had bungie taken any longer they'd have to retool it all for the 360 anyway. IMO, the only game we've seen where bungie cared and had their shit together was H3. So we will see how this turns out, but I'm still hesitant to buy into the hype.
Bungie may not be the same Bungie it was back then but the majority of the management are the original Bungie founders who have risen up to the point of management.
Also Destiny is led by Jason jones as opposed to haroldsaxonRyan.
Jasons been working on Destiny since during Halo 3's development, it was why he disappeared from the Vidocs.
I see what they did there with the title.
It looks fantastic.
I'm still hesitant. For an announcement, it sure didn't grab my interest. Looks like they are still trying to expand on the stuff they suck at (story for one). And who the fuck wants to be bothered by their xbox live friends when they are out. When I want to play xbox, I'll turn on my xbox. I don't want to have to be chained to their universe through an app to be able to fully enjoy a game.
I.... don't know. I'm definitely going to buy it because it's Bungie, but I don't know.
I generally like a descriptor to begin, "You are the _____", not "You are a ____.". Playing with other people can be fun, but it sure does destroy the illusion that you are the central figure of that universe.
In Halo 4's Spartan Ops, I'd rather be playing as Thorne or one of the d-bags of Majestic than my custom Spartan who never appears in any of the cut scenes. I just don't care about customization enough to justify completely unplugging my character from being a participant in the story. Maybe they thought up some way to have cake and eat it too, but... I don't know.
I don't want to be the dummy getting frightened over something that is new, but this doesn't strike me as all that new, really. It conjures a lot of allusions to other games that I am not a fan of. I'm not panicking or anything, but I'm not exactly excited, either.
We shall see.
I think at this point, getting worked up about Destiny is a little silly. They showed off some concept art, some gameplay, announced the basic idea of what they were trying to do. With all games, it's always just speculation until you actually play it.
Personally I'm looking forward to Bungie trying something new, it will always be compared to Halo. I'm going to keep an open mind, and get in to my mental state of being excited for something new, and not try to nit pick at every little detail.
And yeah, it's an instant buy for me, it's Bungie after all.
Hey I hope it's a good game, but for the most part Bungie has disappointed me when it comes to living up to the hype. Most of the games are full of broken concepts and flawed ideas which this forum spends 90% of it's time bitching about.
I'm just going to wait and see what else we are shown before determining it sucks, but so far I don't really care for what I see. I'll probably buy it unless the reviews utterly suck.
That is your opinion, and not fact.
I quite honestly loved Halo 2, Halo 3, and even some parts of ODST. I hated Halo Reach and Halo 4.
The announcement today grabbed my attention and I think it looks really interesting. I've always loved space exploration games and I especially love FPS. I'm excited to see where it goes.
Not a fan of MP only style games. I sometimes get annoyed/bored of MP and want to fall back onto the single player version of the game. Its also a great way to practice and home my craft, yet you cant do that with MP only.
The whole 'follow along via an app' will get old real fast and I dont see it being used often by myself.
I've never done an FPS MMO before, so I look forward to it. I know it's not exactly an MMO, but at the same time that's probably the best way to describe it. I'm excited, to say the least.
I'm just finally excited to see Bungie making NOT another Halo game.
Now, you can't really tell a whole lot from the video, but I personally like the style/direction they took.
That video..
:iamafag:
Am I the only one who thought ODST was one of the best Halo games I have ever played?
I probably dislike ODST as much as I can dislike a Halo game, which means I kind of like it. It's probably the one I played the least, because I never liked traipsing across the city to get to the next bite-sized, 1-note mission. Technology-wise, it was a huge disappointment, with no rain, bad faces, and weird cartoon-style animation in the cut scenes. And then you've got that mute protagonist and a cheesy 1940's romance playing out between the guy from Firefly and the girl from Battlestar Galactica. Oh, and the BEEPING!
But you guys are welcome to your opinion.
ODST was okay, but it didn't beat the origional 3 in my opinion. It was a nice expanision for what it was though and did offer some nice storytelling that helped bridge the gap between H2 and H3.
GI pulled out and stitched together all the asset renders/in-engine footage in a single vid, for the curious
kickass lighting, although the actual first-person shots don't seem too flattering - guess they're stuck showing scaled-down X360 footage until next-gen boxes are announced and they can show off what it really looks like (Watch Dogs and Star Wars 1313 had the "it's on a high-end PC" excuse at E3)
I'm a little concerned at how bungie is going THIS IS THE MOST INCREDIBLE LEAP YET, DON'T TRY TO DEFNIE THE GENRE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T when it just sounds like FPS gameplay with a standard MMORPG structure (as opposed to a pure "MMOFPS" in the sense of Planetside), but on the other hand A. it's Bungie taking on the task with infinite money from the richest publisher in the business B. we haven't actually seen anything about that structure outside of teasing bits from articles such as ^, so too early to call
of course it's not like Bungie was never prone to pushing that kind of reverance and hushed grandiosity when promoting their games so I guess I shouldn't be surprised
man though if it works I'm totally down; marrying that early-vanilla-WoW sense of exploring a gigantic unknown world with good shooter gameplay and the usual RPG-style progression sounds like the proverbial shit, especially if they pull head out of ass and do a PC release
E: ^dis boi knows where it at
Too bad there's no PC release. Still, my interest is high.
http://penny-arcade.com/report/edito...-it-could-be-tQuote:
The game is coming to the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and there is at least some hope of a PC version, although they’re being cagey in that area.
Which Bungie linked to on their new Destiny twitter: https://twitter.com/DestinyTheGame/s...69095989035009
They kept using the term, "console shooter" to describe the game by many accounts. Interpret that as you will.
I'm looking forward to how they change the formula to account for co-op. Playing Spartan Ops has made me realize that 4-player co-op is a different animal from single-player and even 2-player co-op. And they're talking about doing 6-player "raids". I wonder how that's going to work and how they're going to preserve the tactical pace and challenge of their single-player experience without resorting to cheap RPG crutches like making everything bullet sponges and sticking a health meter over the enemies.
Although, the thing that truly kills the satisfaction of Spartan Ops is the non-existent consequences for dying. You're, in fact, rewarded for dying by getting more ammo and grenades. Not repeating that mistake will go a long way. I'd like to see a downed/revive system along whith a respawn when a checkpoint is reached or if everyone wipes, everything is rolled back to the last checkpoint.
Back when Bungie was still required to make Halo, they at least put a lives limit in the game, alogn with an assortment of other options to give the game modes extra...life :mech2:. Bungie's Firefight was something they wanted to do from the start but didn't get a chance to shove it into a game until late into the franchise and engine's lifecycle.
Destiny/Tiger, however, is an entirely different ballgame/beast.
Pretty sure that's concept art, and they've always had the engine usable on the PC for development purposes.
Except that's a play testing station rather than a work desk unless they've made all the desks into isles.
In which case Jcap post desk.
OHHHHHHHHH
I really hate this idea of a socially connected game. 4-5 friends is all I want when playing multiplayer. After that it just gets annoying.
I can't not like something thats not announced? I am going to reserve my judgement for when it comes out, but I'm just not impressed or interested what we've been shown so far.
Also did anyone else see that PS4 players are going to be getting exclusive content for Destiny?
Yeah, but who knows what form that will take or if the other platforms will get their own exclusive content. They're probably trying to do everything they can to get playstation fans to buy a Bungie game after seeing them as "the enemy" for a decade. Otherwise, Destiny would sell at about a 10:1 ratio between Xbox and Playstation platforms and make all that effort to extend to other platforms moot.
I'm really not sure what you guys are on about. I don't see how Masterz is trying to start a fight just because he has a negative opinion.
what the hell people are defending me?
Looks like Halo
Not saying it's a bad thing, just saying it's a thing.
According to the latest GI article, Bungie has switched to iron sights in Destiny :ohdear:
You know what would be funny?
If they got Arnnie to be a VA in the game :mech2:
or just take some voice clips of him :]
I can't believe I just watched that entire thing
edit:
And then I watched as Cage's hair started abandoning ship
I just learned that there was once a time in which nic cage had good hair.
I'm glad I came to this thread after all.
The important things we learn while waiting for Bungie's new game.
Also thanks to Korn for educating the masses.
GDC Bungie be talkin about characters, Check this shit out!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKOY8zJx2Q4
The designs feel and look so good, and dat music... goddamnit Marty, you got me again... right in the heart...
That first human looked like a Templar. I like it. :0
I like the Vex
I got to see this whole talk and it was awesome. Pretty sure this game will be amazing. Should have taken some pictures but was too busy listening/trying not to die from exhaustion.
Since you were at GDC, did you get a chance to see 343's promethian panel?
These characters look pretty cool though, I love the hive especially.
Get out of here with that subpar promethian crap, this is about something of high quality: Destiny
Any news on if this is coming to PC yet?
None whatsoever. I'm still a patient holdout, but my doubts have been rising for a while.
Well considering the original release didn't mention PS4 and that they haven't announced that it will be for the Xbox 720 yet, even though its pretty obvious, I feel like its possible they may announce it later. Please dear lord I hope so... I don't want to have to buy a new console just for this -__-
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/04/01/what-bungies-destiny-does-better-than-halo
Staten: "So if you're playing in a co-op way, we're not going to do that crappy thing that happened in the old Halo games where, if you're playing co-op, you don't show up ... you're not the primary role."
In most Halo games, the co-op partner was a twin of the main character. When you saw a cut scene (which were usually skipped in co-op, let's face it), it only showed one of the two twins, but that twin could be you and the other player is the one who doesn't show up in cut-scenes. And the other player can think the opposite is true. Was that really so "crappy"? Even if it is, is anyone going to be really wowed by this revelation? And are we really going to be watching cut-scenes while playing co-op?
Next quote:
Staten: "What kind of character do I want to be in the world? Do I want to be a man or do I want to be a woman? That's a choice we never gave someone in the Halo series."
Poor Halo Reach. It was as if you never existed.
Only in the first cinematic of the first game were there two players. Although, would Halo 3 count with the Arby appearing only during certain cinematics when played cooperatively (i.e., beginning of the Covenant)? There's some minor change there.
EDIT: Be glad they did player cinematics with Reach. They didn't even touch that stuff with Spartan Ops in Halo 4. Would have been a lot cooler if they did, even with just your player alone, IMO.
The characters almost seem to have sort of a religious aesthetic to them. It's pretty sick.
1) In Halo, it was about being the MC. In Destiny, it's about being one of Earth's many guardians. The latter has more focus on cooperative usage over the former, so it would be crappy to try and give any one focus to any one player. The player isn't the center of attention this time around.
2) I hardly call changing your Spartan's voice and general appear as choosing to be a woman character. Noble 6 was entirely cookie cutter. You were still the same spartan in the end. With Destiny, there is more character modeling (not talking 3d modeling) going on. You're not some cookie cutter character like Noble 6 or he-she's Rookie predecessor. You're playing who you want to be, not playing someone who you have picture yourself as.
Wow, they haven't done that since Durandal wanted to become God. :v:
