A really badly put together one will! :downs:
Like the Borg for example. Kill the queen, everything else becomes passive.
Or the Mavericks because they are controlled by a mutated version of Zero.
Yeah because video games need to be all about real world logic.
That said, in Megaman X4, to even get to that point you've already killed every other significant leader of the Repliforce as well as slaughtering countless thousands of basic troops. I'd say that's enough to bring down any organization. Besides, it isn't always about 'organizations'. Sometimes you just need to have a big kickass fight with a powerful enemy, and sometimes there are other reasons as well.
Boss fights aren't always about taking down entire organizations.
Halo 2 for example where you killed tartarus in order to shut down the Halo firing.
I think Pooky's point is that games no longer feature epic as part of their resume, which I agree with.
The game with the best boss fights IMO is Kingdom Hearts. Though destroying the Boss Heartless won't stop the Heartless, you are reducing the number and present danger of them, not to mention destroying the big bosses has a purpose, like sealing the Keyhole to a world.
No, but they could be less cliché about it. Big boss fights at the end of every game are no better than hardcore tactical nuke finales of every other game. Not every story has to end with you killing the leader or the guy who killed your family. That's probably why games like Heavy Rain or STALKER appeal to me: they do not use the traditional cliché motifs.
I'm not hating on games that DO have boss fights, I'm just saying that whining about modern bossfights is meaningless because all you want is more " shoot the glowy orange spot." Only turn-based or action-queue RPG bosses really take any amount of strategy because you have to actually plan your moves ahead. If it doesn't take strategy to kill, then what's the point of the boss? No, timing your dodge/shoot combos is not strategy.
Also, how come the friendly faction never has bosses for the enemy to get fucked over by? Is that not as epic as you killing their BAMF units?
Idk if this actually goes here, but meh
