Welp, it's been far to long sense I've posted anything, so hear ya go. Sorry about the crappy renders, I haven't learned how to make decent ones in Zbrush yet. This is my first model in Zbrush:

Poly count is irrelevant, because this is only going to be used in pre-made renders. But if you must know, it's a little under a million. "OMG WTF a million You NOOB!" Not really, zbrush can handle a billion polys, a million is nothing. Its actually pretty low compared to some of the stuff over at Zbrush central. And before anybody says "you should of just made those cracks with normal maps", it is far easier and more precise to model on the cracks, or just model the cracks on then make a normal map from them.
I'm going to texture this and render with vray later.
Very nice. Would help to see a lower-poly model the normal will be slapped onto though.

This is what i do when modelling in zbrush/mudbox: first create a quad mesh in max with low detail etc (but be sure to handle poly distribution correctly), import into zbrush, and then work with it from there.
Haha, yah, I knew somebody was going to say that. Believe me though, it was way easier making it all just one piece.(the whole thing started out as a sphere, and all that was really done in the end was moving verts) Doesn't matter though, the only reason I made it was to learn crap, and I'm going to make the sexy render in a way which nobody will ever know.
@ WoL: Yah, thats what most of the people over in the Zbrush forums do. But for making bipeds and stuff, you can just start out with Zspheres for your base mesh. Theres supposed to be a way to re-topologize (omg spelling) models in Zbrush, but I havn't got there yet. I really don't care though unless it's going in a game. Also, pics of your work?

Here are some super scaled down shots of three posters I did for a raster based imaging class. Wave was wanting to see them, but I didn't have access to them at the time. I thought why not just put them up for h2v since I dont have access to AIM right now. Poster one had only one thing talked about in critique and that was what to do with the pin-stripes. Poster two had nothing said about in critique and won best in class so I've got an A for the class right now ^_^. Poster three went well, but had a bit of problem with type setting. Professor considered the background string of images to be an object, so the text wasn't centered :\. Ohwell, I still pulled an A off for getting best in class, so no worries about it.
Anyways, I'm off to an officers meeting for my ACM SIGGRAPH. enjoy.

the Building on the right needs to have some detail on the left side wall.
it's very bland at the moment, so maybe give it drain pipes, a window, a ledge hell even aerodynamic wings if ya want.

Meh, looks kinda overdone.
It needs less to itself, and more interaction with the area around it. Make the base of the structure a combat area, so players can get up-close and personal with the dish. Also, think about how it will be placed in relation to its surroundings. Give it some more support, too.

attention whoring mb. also, skill level is decent, but it all really looks like a bunch of easy tool use to throw in detail. basically a bunch of primitives all smashed together and detailed without much solid direction, just "let's see where this tool takes me". there's a lot of flatness to everything. i dunno, just seems kinda boring. if you can come up with solid directions and looks you could achieve better.
E: what i mean is you're relying on buttons too much, and not enough real modeling

What would you suggest doing, SnaFuBAR? I didn't smash together a bunch of boxes, I actually modeled them and made it all one piece to maintain a low poly count with clean topography, while pulling off greater detail. As of now the main structure of this building stands at 1300 polys.

So is there anything that I can do to improve? I've tried modeling since the tutorial but I'm finding it hard to find good references, which leads me to ask if anyone knows of any good image reference sites? Google and The Blueprints aren't that good for me, maybe I'm just not searching hard enough, I don't know.
