Using shades and setting the opacity on the brush to something you just wanna use, make multiple layers.. eh you could start with an Outline(Top Most frame, so it covers over everything) of like an outline of what you're gonna draw. Then make another layer under it and start basic shading, put down a basic colour and just erase around and keep darkening in areas/playing with brush sizes and styles. It's a lot of simple brush strokes with just opacity set to the brush.
Well thats my view of how to do it.
