LEAVE MOSIN ALONE.
From what i've read I heard the recoil was pretty rough, that's why I posted that. Only gun i've shot before was a 22 so in terms of recoil I have no idea.
I was mainly getting that for the cool factor. I figured it'd be a nice addition for collection or something.Quote:
Cartidge carrier is nice, but I'm not sure how much use you'll get out of it if you plan on loading your magazine all the way.
Yeah I was definitely going to try it out before I slapped anything else on it. I was just wondering the possibilities. So you're saying I should try out shooting with my left hand and whatnot instead of my right? When I go to the shooting range i'll give it a go. I've always shot BB guns and whatnot with both eyes open. And with pistols I usually maneuvered the sights to match up with my left eye anyhow.Quote:
I think you ought to try the rifle out without the scope before you spend on the scope and accessories.
I also have lazy eye. 20/200 with the right eye, except the fuckers at the optometrist never even tried to patch my left eye to strengthen the right; just fixed me up with a contact lens ("20/40" if I wear it...I don't) at age 12 and called it a day. I shoot with my left now. You need to shoot with your good eye, plain and simple. You match the weapon to your eye, not to your preferred hand.
Thanks for all the info.
Exam I do what I want.
It's going to feel weird at first, shooting with your off-hand. But then, you get used to it and then you find that you can shoot with either hand with the only limitation being your vision. For giggles I sometimes shoot with my right eye and hand to see how good of a grouping I can get, but if I'm actually trying I always use the left.
But really, the red-dot isn't going to help your bad eye at all. The only thing it will achieve is obscuring the target with a red dot, making shot-placement just as much guess-work as it would be using the irons. If you were trying to hit a man-size target with no particular level of precision, sure. But target shooting? No, pointless gesture.
Okay went ahead and purchased a few things.
Buttpad
Buttstock cartridge holder (lol at name)
Gun sling in black (because black is cooler then green)
Once I get the rifle i'll pick up all the cleaning supplies and whatnot to get the cosmoline shit off. I am pretty sure the gun won't come with a cleaning rod, but will check once it gets here. Some people said they got one, others did not, so i'll hold off on purchasing those.
I also need to get myself a carrying case, but the ones they have on Amazon that work with Amazon Prime are sold out atm.
Good buys? Should I buy oil or whatever now?
Oh man the things I missed.
The recoil pad..it doesn't help with the recoil at all really. The things it does is add 1 inch in length and not get your shoulder hit by metal/wood. I used to think shootin with the recoil pad was better but eventually the mosin buttplate stopped bothering my shoulder. Seriously just dont loosly hold the rifle to your shoulder unless you want your shoulder to get hit hard when firing. How tall are you again plague? Also which mosin did you get.
The allen cartridge holder is aight, let me know how it works and I may buy one.
The ncstar leather dog collars MAY be really thin..just going to warn you on that.
And a carry case? What are you looking for..a hard case or soft? Theres plenty of options even with the Prime.
What I heard about the recoil pad is it did help a lot, after you drilled out some of those holes completely. I purchased the Type 53 M44 clone, all the 91/30's and whatnot were out of stock, and the Type 53 I messed with seemed to fit me right. I'm only 5'5", so a full length Mosin seemed weird.
The strap and cartridge are coming in today, so i'll let you know how those things are. The Mosin won't reach the FFL till Wednesday, so i'll pick that up the. Of course i'll make sure to examine the shit out of it first, incase anything looks messed up. Then cleaning and whatnot will commence!
Awesome dude, congrats on becoming a gun owner (soon)!
What is your steam? We can circlejerk talk about it
The sling is actually pretty good, it isn't thin at all. Buttpad is smelly like gas, but that's it and it seems fine. And the ammo holder seems like it will fit good on the stock.
Gun is in my city but not yet arrived :( So tomorrow it is!
