So many issues with this vid that I can't even list them all:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...;v=k-xBlKez2WE
Looking at the bright side: every generation of multiplayer has been radically different than the one before it. That's something CoD can't say.
So, by effectively slipping into the status-quo of FPS multiplayer, it effectively became its own unique gem within the Halo franchise. :iamafag:
That video is old, like a week or so. You mind listing the issues you think are there?
I'm only skeptical gameplay-wise in regards to weapon drops (basically like Killstreaks, but I like that it's based off of points rather than kills and won't send a gunship to make it a shit game) and armor mods (like some mods make you more resilient to grenades or allow you to pick up and carry more grenades). Everything else is looking really nice. I like the philosophy around players being able to choose their starting weapons so that they can learn said weapons, not to mention having the choice is really good to begin with. It puts Halo where it needs to be to compete with other modern FPS shooters that give players similar choices and larger scales.
I think the biggest issue is the fact that they are saying all the old halo games were old and/or broken so they've "fixed" everything. I've told everyone that this isn't Halo any longer for a stupidly long time and here they are finally saying it now. This is their own title based on what a studio that hasn't made a game yet thinks a game should be.
Oh please. They're letting it evolve with the rest of the game industry. Halo's fallen behind other games, and the progressive style games have been eating away from Halo since COD4. Everyone who's played H4 says the gameplay is the best out of the series, or at least on par with H1. The MP is going to be different for sure, but it's not like any of the other Halo games respected their predecessors MP either.
On another note, that trailer pumps me up for SPOPS. The pre rendered cutscenes look amazing, based on suiting up scenes we were shown, I'm inclined to think that they stream you a video based on what your player profiles armor is set to, hence why you can only do SPOPS with a connection to XBL.
I think the last multilayer experience I enjoyed on Halo was when Firefight first came out on ODST. I bought Halo Reach, however I wasn't gonna rejoin xbl again when I heard the multiplayer sucked compared to Halo 2/3s multiplayer. Personally, in Halo 4, some things look cool, some don't. I don't really like the fact that they offer you weapons at spawn, was never into that, the announcer talks WAY to much, and unlocking skins/weapons, is wtf considering all the skins look like shit. But I did watch some BTB on the new valhalla which looked pretty badass. I might just play mp just to see how it is.
And while doing so they're doing everything that has shown to cause gameplay to snowball beyond control and make things not fun for the loser. Halo was great because everything was on equal footing until the end. Now, it's make perfect use of the new stuff or die, die again, and die once more until points lose you the game. It's miserable to experience and it's even worse to watch as a spectator. They're taking away most of the ways you could play and are now saying you have to play it 'this' way to succeed because we've scripted it this way. Saying you can play Halo the old way with a custom game isn't going to cut it either since some of the new mechanics drive the established game modes and that's not what is going to be filling the XBL queues. They're not even doing these things for a meta game either.
The only supposed good thing out of this is that you can play catch with the oddball now. I say supposed because depending on the map it could just be abused (IE that floating island with clouds surrounding it in Halo 2).
Stop being so over dramatic. If anything, these new changes are easier on the "loser" just because now you get rewards, medals, and xp for pretty much everything you do. In older Halo, you weren't given anything unless you got kills or completed objectives. That is it.
Also, have you actually played the Halo 4 mp yet?
@Amit, please list the issues you see with the Vidoc.
Everyone still starts on equal footing. When I played I scored best on my team at level 0 when everyone else was running around with light rifles and DMRs. The weapons you start with are all balanced. You rank up slow if you suck, good performance makes you rank up faster. In my brief time playing, there were never any abilities or starting weapons that made me feel like the game was unfair.
Also, in custom games/forge, you can set the games spawning and mp rules to be just like H2/3. So yeah.
And what qualifies this is that everyone can start with what weapons they want to. They have the choice to decide how they want to play, not to mention the niches of the weapons are all streamlined and defined. Each has a great capacity to own and even more so each player can develop styles around them. I like that sense of tactics and strategy personally. So it may not be the literal sense of starting equally like Halo 1's OP Pistol, but in the sense that everyone can equally choose how they want to play.
My question about that is this:
How "equal" will it be for a new player 3 months after release when people have had time to level up and unlock things to a significant degree?
Will it be like Battlefield and CoD where you get assraped first thing or will it be more or less like Halo has always been, with player skill being the determining factor.
Food for thought.
As far as weapons go, I think it will be fine. There are a lot of ways to play with the different weapons, not to mention every weapon is powerful enough to effectively tackle different situations. However, I fear for your theory in regards to Armor Mods. We will seriously have to wait and see what happens when a lot of players playing better or for longer have those mods versus players who don't. That's really my biggest concern.
Will be whoring the Carbine and the DMR. I might play around with the Suppressor.
I might have a loadout with the Light Rifle and the Boltshot. It'll cover just about all the bases between point-blank range and cross-mapping. Is it the best combination? Probably not, but at least I can use it in a variety of roles.
Thankfully we have trueskill working behind the scenes for situations like that. Players who play a lot and have a firm rank will play with another, the less expierenced players will play together too.
@Teekup, the surpressor is like the SMG basically, but slightly just spread and slower projectiles. Sounds cool though.
Those shaders/textures on the player models are awful.
That cant be launch halo 4, that just HAS to be an older build.
Im reminded of the first few videos RvB did for Halo 4 when the Reach shotgun was still there as a placeholder xD
They know how terrible the upper-body primary-colored under-armor looks, right?
IDK wtf is with that RVB vid. The game does not look like that.
Anyone else notice how fast the reloads seem?
Hey nerds:
Confirmed Halos with this trailer. :)
I highly advise no one who wants to be spoiled watch that. Dark, you may want to put that at the top of your post. That video is so full of spoilers it's nuts. Some of the dialog in it is even post credits.
I'm actually surprised that was released through waypoint.
I still can't believe the flood won't show up at some point. Oh well, maybe Halo 5.
How is that a gameplay trailer when it hardly shows any actual gameplay what so ever?
Oh for fucks sake. If you are going to give the Didact six fingers, give him two thumbs. He's got an extra pinkie-finger thing going on. Did no one play the Sacred Icon in Halo 2 at 343i? And that stuff probably wasn't even likely to be taken literally. It was probably made for ambidextrous users, not six fingered freakazoids.
Meant as a joke, but it still disturbs me a bit.
Fuck six-fingered hands. :v:
Something like "vague spoilers ahead" wouldn't have gone amiss. But yeah, there wasn't much in terms of revealing content other than some grass and a fucked up hand.
Uh, did anyone consider this? They may be... what's the word? Retarded?
Why are the reloads in fast forward? and wtf is this at 2:22, Halo 1's physics are better than that.
Holy f-balls...
Part 4 is out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ_xn889cSk
Ha ha ha. That was awesome, but the Chief made it as cheesy as I thought he would, but it was still pretty cool.
Great episode, chief was awesome. Hunters look like they'll show up in the next episode.
2:49 / 8:11 / 8:53 / 14:22 FUCKING GREAT.
A bit cheesy at times, but very cool.
I'm surprised to see needle rifles, since those won't be in the actual game.
The only issue I saw was:
"Call me Master Chief."
No, no John. You say:
"Master Chief Petty Officer John 117."
You give your rank and name not your monicker.
Other than that it was good. Gotta give it to John to snipe with his magnum.
The only issue you saw? Lol.
But no, actually. Navy addresses its MCPOs as Master Chief [last name]. With their names still classified, that's appropriate.
Would love to see a First Strike or Fall of Reach version made like this.
Not that it's a big deal at all. Those books need to be retconned.
Or the UNSC was losing a war against an army comprised entirely of grunts and jackals. And no one saw an SMG before until 2552.
DMR looking pretty awesome. Nice to see someone who knows what they're doing.
That was a cool match. That guy definitely knew what he was doing. I can't wait for this game. ^_^
To my own surprise, I actually liked most of what I saw. FOV looks bearable, the bloom effect (mid range bullet spread) appears to be drastically toned down and the overall pace looks a lot closer to what we saw in Halo 3. Who knows, I might actually enjoy this game.
Since when have you ever heard or seen John's last name used in the canon after he became a fully augmented Spartan II?
He always responds with his full official name of "Master Chief Petty Officer, John 117". For all intents and purposes, 117 is his last name since the whole Spartan program dehumanized the Spartan candidates.
You don't seem to understand what I said. In today's USN, regular E-9s are addressed as Master Chief Whatever-The-Fuck-Their-Last-Name-Is.
In the lore, he lost his last name after being abducted and was given two pieces of identity. John and 117.
It is stressed that his identity and even the nature of the Spartan II program is classified. Hell, it's not even announced that the Covenant is fucking over planets yet.
Do you expect him to just merrily announce, "Why hello there cadets, I am Master Chief Petty Officer John 117," to these people?
They needed a way to address him, other than 'giant robot guy', and he gave them what he could to get by.
What I was pointing out was that the Petty Officer half of the title being left out was not wrong.
Never once did I say he should use a non-existent last name.
Shut it Military-Nerds.
Discuss!
I wish the BR had more of that rounded shaping to it. With that Arctic Camo I can't help but think it looks too much like the MW2 FAMAS with Arctic Camo. The Needler is still pretty boss, it still sounds Needley, but it's not the same old sound we all know and love. Same with the Plasma Pistol.
I know what you mean, and this is to early in the lore for people to know that he's a Spartan, or even more specifically "the Chief". So IMO he would of likely stated his rank and number in this case, "Master Chief Petty Officer 117" and left it at that. Very few non-Spartans ever called Spartans by their actual names. Captain Keyes and Dr Halsy being two of the only ones that I know of. They reserved names for talking to each other, otherwise they used ranks and numbers, or shortened ranks and numbers.
My point is that the Chief came off as to socially integrated in his role. When asked who/what he was he should of given a snappy response of "Master Chief one-one-seven", since the "Petty Officer" is implied. He talked way to much in his role IMO, as the Chief always just "did" or gave very brief and concise instructions to other non-Spartan military personnel.
Plasma pistol and needler sound awful.
i think thats the first time ive ever seen a halo game and thought "wow. i really dont care for anything im seeing here".
has there been any statement on why the dmr reloads so fast?
He might have the quick reload perk.
oh theres actually perks for that sort of thing? maybe hes using a default class or something, because every video of the dmr ive seen has the guy reloading that fast
Call of Halo: Futuristic Warfare 4
And (yes, I know 343I is making it and not Bungie) didn't Bungie also get purchased by/partnered with Activision? I smell a conspiracy... :tinfoil:
They weren't purchased, they are just in an agreement with Activision to publish their next game.
So I hate the weapon sounds and most of the covvie reticles, but the rest looks okay. Except for killcams and perks. Yeahhhhh :tinfoil:
I'm positive Killcams are for specific gametypes and can be disabled. Perks are still to be judged and I won't mind them as long as they don't break the game. I hate how gimmicky the quick reload perk is with nearly every game now, but what can you do when it's a core component of the game? I think it will make the game more dynamic though, kind of like when you're fighting some Elites and a Hunter shows up, so you do have to change tactics a bit.
Wait, perks are in campaign? What the fuck?
So is a rocket launcher...
:p
I'm referring to the thruster pack actually,
http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...ck-600x337.png
Hunters are CRAZY in this game.
Oh no, I was talking about Rocket Launchers being effective against Hunters in Halo Reach at Warsaw. But this is pretty cool. I don't mind how perks can be integrated into the single-player so long as it isn't too unfair against the AI.
How crazy are the Hunters? What makes them different than Halo Reach?
Exactly where I saw hunters they had the thruster pack, and they were so fast and had a much longer melee range, that if you got up close to them to shoot them with a shotgun without this I would often end up dead by melee. So you could get close shoot them, and then evade them using it, it was really cool.
Hunters in Reach were annoyingly hard, the ones in H4 are really fun to fight as you can quickly dodge their attacks with AA's and sprint. Also, there's always fun anti hunter guns to fight them most of the time when you find them.
The only Hunters I hated in Reach were those two hanging out with all of the Skirmishers when you are attempting to get to the MAC. That whole setup is just crap. Other than that, I enjoyed them in that game. I don't have a problem dodging them, it's usually an issue of finding a decent gun to kill them with because Bungie doesn't believe in ammunition.
Fake E: How did you lose the Hog man? Just kick the bitches out and drive'n'gun all on your own.
Looks fun, but what's up with the Transformers audio effects?
Also, nice to see the UNSC totally trash a Covenant ship.
50 missions?
I'm going to go ahead and assume there either very short, or simply very repetitive and uninspired.
Well that's a terrible assumption. You should be assuming that they're likely to be varied as the team has been working on them for a while and have a ridiculous budget. Not to mention all the inspiration each one has as well as the entirety of the game world already around them.
I'm confident that 343i has cooked up a lot of good missions that people will likely play over and over more times than some campaign levels.
After seeing what they have done with the actual campaign itself, its pretty easy to see where the rest of it will be in terms of more single player.
Did the Infinity just PLOW through a battlecruiser? 343 you gave that ship 4 fucking MAC cannons and you decided to make a cutscene where it just rams a battlecruiser. I don't get it.
From what I heard, Ops takes a relatively different approach to the Single Player because it's basically the culmination of everything that the devs wanted in the main campaign, but couldn't fit for many reasons. But ODX is right, you're gaining a bad mindset by assuming anything.
Infinity gon' fuck yo shit up. Jus' sayin
E: I recognize that Spartan's voice from Skyrim.
What's up with the ONI logo flashing in a single frame before the Xbox 360 logo appears?
Given the sheer amount of raw talent at that company, I'm going to keep an open mind about this game. It may not be the same Halo I've loved so dearly in the past, but that doesn't mean it can't still be a good game set in the halo universe. I'll continue to hold my judgement until I've played it.
Why spend time shooting the grunt when you can easily plow it over with your warthog :p (given that the ship looks MASSIVE by comparison)Quote:
4 fucking MAC cannons and you decided to make a cutscene where it just rams a battlecruiser. I don't get it.
Regarding the ship, nobody seems to have noticed this: The ship just came out of slipspace, so it wouldn't have the time or the space to fire MAC rounds at the ship. Hell, they wouldn't even known that it;s there. Although, 343i should have let the ship come out somewhere else and then blow the crap out of the cruiser. If you freeze the frame where the ship smashes through the cruiser, you can see that it takes zero damage. In what universe does that happen? Then again, these are the same people who put gundam helmets in the game.
I wouldnt compare a battle cruiser to a grunt. The Infinity is an impressive ship and I love its design, but that cruiser has an internal structure, base super structure, corridors, plasma conduits etc. Infinity's prow should be bruised if not beaten to all hell by ramming another starship at that speed.
While we're on technicalities, a battle cruise that close to a slipspace gateway should have been shredded to all hell by the gravitation eddies being spewed out by that thing anyway.
Because the ship has.....Infinity health.
