Tsavo Highway was fun but it just kind of dragged on. That whole sequence could have been replaced with something off-world. Or something. Idk

H2 Id agree had some of the best environments and story telling, but the gameplay in it suffered greatly. You spend most of the campaign without human weapons and fighting flood, not to mention the gameplay was incredibly broken and frustrating throughout most of it.
H3 only had 4 missions of story, and a bunch of random shit on earth, since everyone complained we didn't spend enough time on earth in H2. Now we have 2 games that take place mostly on earth (H3 and ODST) and Reach (which was earth with a different name), so going back to exploring the forerunners was one of the things I loved in H4.
Halo 3 needed to be longer. Period. For what it was, it felt way too rushed. I feel that if it had been about 1.5x more in the number and length of missions, then it would have been almost perfect. The remaining perfections would come down to changes in Multiplayer.
While we're on the subject of Halo 3, what was up with those transitions between checkpoints when Cortana was all in your face? Was she trying to contact Chief or what? I never got that. I know she stayed behind on High Charity but if she was attempting to make contact why didn't anyone notice?
I think it may have had something to do with her and the gravemind, which can telepathically link itself to anyone... I don't really know, I wondered about that myself tbh :P
Also, ODST is probably my second favorite campaign, only eclisped by that of CE, it was just so atmospheric, the sound, music, the visual style... it was just a pleasure to sit and play. I could wander around at night and almost think of it as going out for a walk... with the occasional firefight xP
ODST had the most awesome opening cinematic of all the games. The music was outstanding and the scene of dropping from the edge of space was just intense as fuck.
ODST is simply a fantastic game in so many ways. Great music, great cinematics, great animations, great aeshetic choices, great gameplay, and it leaves you wanting more. That's just vaguely explaining why it's so great too.
Hold the phone, all of Modacity's antagonistic minds are agreeing on something!
Oh shit I better save this page as a screenshot and frame it!
But yeah the opening sequence was amazing. I loved the suppressed pistol and smg, but mainly the pistol. Idk why but ODST's Firefight had a certain appeal to it that Reach didn't. Don't get me wrong, it was hella fun in Reach, but ODST had something different. I don't know if it was the color palette or atmosphere or what.
ODST was my favorite after Halo 1. That game was fucking gorgeous, and played amazingly. I still go on youtube just to watch the cutscenes sometimes. Great game. I think that is the one game id give a 9.5/10. (minus .5 because no elites -_-)
