Actually they were only pulse generators and he used the shields to project an EM wave to wreck them just enough to buy them some time (which was totally unnesicary since cortana had the fucking index but you know vOv)

But yeah, fully powered samus vs chief is hands down samus, she's a fucking morphing spin-attacking ninja with a the equivelant of 12 rapid fire splasers strapped to her arm.

From the looks of it he meant to kick it down that way. The 'flopping', as you say, appears to be just him rolling over out of their way and then started to get up.
