I don't think there's anyone here who thinks that the people of the Crimea don't have the right to decide what nation to be a part of. I just think it's wrong for the Russians to send in thousands of soldiers to ensure that happens. If Britain had sent in thousands of troops to the Confederate south during the American Civil War to "protect their interests their", that would have been the closest thing to what we're talking about here.

Actually, that's not similar at all.
A much better example is Georgia v. Russia and South Ossetia.
