No its the process which checks that your maps corresponds with the maps on multiplayer servers when you launch CE, or something like that.

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
It's when the game calculates checksums for the maps when loading. It's why the mroe maps you have the longer your load.

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
If Gearbox would have taken me on as an intern, I would have worked on the HaloCE patch. For free. Because I would have been an intern. But alas, I didn't offer to be an intern and I think the issue was always more of getting MGS to test the update and asking Bungie for a 'yay' or 'nay'

Yeah Microsoft is the one that controls the red tape. So no official word yet what he meant? =\

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
I have been playing CE for a long time, I've just been a lurker as far as community participation goes...but yeah I remember our planned gamenights to get 1,000 that never worked.
and I would agree with km00 and limited, gearbox didnt want to go through the hastle of dealing with MGS to get a patch for a game that wasn't really popular. What all was the patch supposed to do?

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
Intro is done right?
Good.
Any information on whether or not this thing means anything?
-
Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
what intro?
I find it interesting that Marathon was released in 94, and the source was released in 2000. If you do the math, that should line up with Halo PC's release in 03 and now. Probably just coincidence, but theres always a slight possibility...right?

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
It's not bungies to open source, and they've already stated that it won't be happening.
-
Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
i kinda figured that was the case... how big of a job would fixing the netcode be?
-
Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
It doesn't need to be fixed, there's already a lag less net code programed for it on some drive at GBX.

I'm not sure about the HaloPC codebase (since MS contracted GBX to do that code) but Halo's code before then is their code, and I doubt Bungie would let MS claim full ownership of it.

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
All I remember from Bungies announcement of them seperating from MS was that they lost the rights to the Halo IP. I'm not one to know much about who would then get rights to the code of games based on the Halo IP, but I guess it is possible for Bungie to have rights to it. Its not like MS would want to restrict Bungies rights to a now ancient game, they're too worried about selling xboxes and making the next halo

I don't think you understand the nature of Microsoft. They are like animals - extremely territorial with their products. The moment they foresee a loss of a fucking dollar in profits, they hype up. Fucking greedy bastards.

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
thats exactly why they shut down Ensemble and let bungie go solo...oh wait..

The GBX broadband-only netcode that MS wouldn't let them use because they wanted Halo to be 56K-compatible.
-
Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
Which made all of us mad.
-
Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
that is something microsoft is good at doing

They also have all the original Halo shaders for the Covie shields, Jackal shields, the flag, Assault Rifle, Fuel Rod Gun, and force fields that Microsoft also made them remove to keep the game friendly with Fixed Function cards.

Game was badly optimized for it's generation anyway, if anything the extra eye candy would of probably made it a tad harder :/

they collect your cd keys and send out an IQ test. in order to host a server and be an admin you must score at least a 50 on this test
half of the current severs will go down.

Re: So did anyone listen to the bungie podcast today?
I just read through 24 pages to read.... nothing.
Then I read a thread on bungie where Sawnose posts this
Quote:
(p.s. - no, this isn't what I meant in the podcast. I'm not planning any game changes or updates. There are no concrete plans for the CD key, but it's your way to show us that you're a Halo 1 player, which we might want to know in the future.)
Well there ya go. Nothing. Thread
