Microsoft owns Halo, they would never let anybody put it on any other platform than their other baby, the Xbox.

Considering how competitive the market is becoming, it makes sense to an extent. MS is always shaky about putting things that are usually exclusive to one platform on any other one. For example, putting Halo 4 on the PC would most likely increase revenue gained from that game theoretically, but would split the player-base (unless they made it so that PC and Xbox players can play in the same matchmaking) AND you risk losing revenue due to pirates. They would have to pull some serious strings to make it worth the effort.
You can't lose revenue that was never there in the first place.
If they didn't port it to PC they won't get the revenue they would porting it and the piracy would only a small percentage compared to the amount "lost" by not porting.
I would still want a PC game if it required us to be signed into LIVE to play campaign (always on DRM). I just want to see SOMETHING!
What's the point of pirating the game if you won't be able to do all the great online stuff? File sharing? New Stuff? Etc. There will always be piracy, no matter the platform. The goal is to make people want to invest in the game. They could easily do that by releasing an editing kit which works by registering with your LIVE handle, etc. There are ways to make it work. But you have to embrace the PC platform as the PC platform, not like a console platform. This includes the population which surrounds it. Meaning featuring dedicated servers, rcon, modding, etc.
consoles get pirated all the time too just sayin
This is exactly why I see them not wanting to do a PC version unless they completely lock all the features until you log into live. They obviously won't be releasing mod tools for a game even if it does get released. They've shown us time and again they don't care about Halo gamers on the PC.
Even then you could potentially just log into your already existing live account with a pirated game and get all the features, unless they find out the game files aren't legit.
I mean, I don't know, I've never pirated anything before. Ever.
You can't sign into LIVE in a GFWL game without putting in the activation code. When the GFWL menu shows up, you type in your hotmail or whatever details and it'll log you in half way. Then it asks for the serial key, copy and paste it into the fields, and hit submit. That is when you're finally logged in and the game will download your Gamertag profile if you don't already haven't already used GFWL on that computer. That's how all GFWL games work.
you don't LOSE revenue due to pirating.
LOSING something would imply having it.
also, GFWL is still a 100% deal-breaker for me
if halo4 were to come to pc, but i'd be forced to use gfwl, i'd simply not give a fuck about it anymore.
i can barely stand PIRATING gfwl-games.
Do you have a vendetta against GFWL or something?
more or less
Who can blame him?
Oh, and that dedicated server bullshit they pulled with H2V? That's justifiable homicide right there.
Here's me holding my breath for Halo 4 to be announced for PC.
::dies::
Here's me, breathing normally, waiting for Halo 4 to be done right on PC.
::dies of old age::
At least if they put any games on PC out, we can fix them.
I definitely agree with you guys about the H2V fiasco, but Microsoft thought people were idiots back then. I find even more insulting that the game is capable of running on XP yet they forced it to Vista only. Now, LIVE isn't so bad. Except the TrueSkill system. That shit sucks eggs hard. I love the interface for live, though, and many good games use it.
And it's a good estimate based upon the average end users of desktops and tablets.
I thought somebody might say that. I meant to say that Microsoft thought PC gamers were idiots back then. PC gamers usually know more about computers than the average windows user. Windows 8 is meant to fool the ignorant into thinking that touch based devices is the way to go.
What the hell is with the chiefs arm?
That's his masturbatinger-chiefing arm.
So, cheif's gonna become a space-nazi? Better than going on some stupid adventure through space and into a forerunner world where he meets himself from the future and it turns out he's a forerunner or something (Bet you 100 this is gonna happen by the end of 6 :downs:)
I thought ODSTs generally disliked Spartans-IIs.
That should tell you just how smooth the MC is.
Those swastikas are backwards and Halo 4 will be terrible.
Heilo 4th Reich does things different. don't be hating.
Wow. I really like what they did with the BR. It looks so genuinely gun that its ridiculous. The armor is okay, but I don't like how elongated the helmet looks in the first pic.
It still looks like they're just spamming extrude/bevel everywhere, but it does look cool.
Is that a red dot?
The visor is very nice but will probably be downgraded to make room in the graphics budget for other things. Just like Halo 3.
The textures look hilariously low-res for everything else, and probably are given the current consoles ram limitations.
Hands are cool, look like gauntlets.
Looks like plastic action figures.
I hate those gloves they did. They look atrocious/generic, but that could be just as much texture as well as overall shape. Though other than that I can't really be too judgmental as these don't really show the armor as a whole very well.
What I'd like to know where he got new armor in the first place though.
wow, look at the battle rifle. it's gone from being fairly distinctive to the same cookie-cutter bullshit as any other sci-fi game or movie.
blocky silhouette? check
random, visually confusing bevels and extrusions? check
totally fucking pointless stripes of chipped coloured paint? check
out of the halo context, i wouldn't be able to tell you if that weapon was from avatar, district 9, mass effect or doom 3. everything that is wrong with modern gaming summed up in a single art asset.
Wow after seeing the video, I love that new bulky ass armor, still not feeling the hands but oh well. The legs I thought are the biggest improvement over anything previous.
Looks to be like Video games are now in a stage where Hollywood was in the 80's.
Hmm...
Graphics look like utter shit.
Generic Sci-Fi BR.
Spartan IVs.
A Mech.
A dev named Kiki.
I really don't like where this is going... Whatever, good music and there's a british dude, so :iamafag:
BR looks like shit, Helmet looks weird. Not liking this.
Anybody fancy wagering on how shit the weapon balance will be this time 'round?
It looked like you at least moved a lot faster in multiplayer. That's good at least. ugh.
Oh God.... xD
Halo is now operating on brand-name value. Replace established names with new ones, and it's nearly an entirely separate entity. For me, this is the first title in the series where I may very well have to say, will not buy.
I'll probably play the beta if there is one but I doubt I'll buy it new.
Hate the backpacks.

Nice little interview.
After watching that trailer, I'm psyched for the game. I really like the aesthetics they're appropriating in the game and I really like the aesthetics of the Spartans and weapons. The only things that bug me are the environments so far; nothing looks new and original yet. All of this is merely WIP, but I would like to see some assets put into place. I'm also worried that 343i is going to make it too much like an FPS instead of that 3PS/FPS mix we've seen with Halo thus-far. Of the approaches they're making, though, I really like the "Spartans are superheros" because frankly I feel like it was never flushed out in the past games primarily because it felt more like the Master Chief was the only competent fighter on the battlefield; the AI were either too weak (marines) or too strong (Elites).
@The naysayers regarding the BR's aesthetic design:
I believe since the next saga will take place in an entirely different region of the galaxy near special-operations Marines, the BR is a variant utilized for their purposes. In other words, I believe it was more of a lore propelling factor to change the BR aesthetically than just a "New game needz new weapon appearancezzz."
music rocks, new BR rocks, looks great
inb4 "omg teh br uzez teh saem aminashonz az teh DMR from reech!!!" and "HOMFG teh hud iz s000 bad!!!"
fuckin snobs
If they are going to go realistic, they should stop pussy-footing around and go realistic. That means gibbing, ADS, non-bouncy, and Crysis-like power management. Otherwise, leave the entirely fictional aesthetic and game-play intact.
Also, Spartan-IV derp. :v:
Seriously guys? Out of everything the question that hits me is.
WHAT IN THE FUCK DID THEY DO TO THE WARTHOG!?
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/6340/hog.png
Ew.
This. I think the whole thing looks great. I will be buying on release. I really like the direction theyre going, because its their own direction. They are going to make their game. And I really like that.
@Bob: I can't see a good enough angle to really judge, and I was a piss poor modeler when I tried. Can you give me some hints as to whats wrong with it?
You know, they had me up until the bashing of Bungie. The whole "These aren't just areas from singleplayer" and the "Fans will be happy to know that the battle rifle is back" bah bah bah. 343 is sort of irritating me. I get that they now have Halo. And that's fine and all. But I don't like that they snip at the people who created the thing. But I'm sure things may be a little tense between Bungie and 343. But that may just be me over thinking it.
Mostly the Warthog has taken a freakish jump to a uh... too realistic design. But not really? It's mixing way too much together in my mind. Like the suspension actually has an axel now. Springs on the shocks? I mean really? Not to mention the giant ass cattle guard on the front. Personally I like Neuro's hog more. I'm sad. And sort of scared to see what will come of the other vehicles.
HOWEVER. That being said. I'll still probably get it... because I love Halo. And there's no reason I wouldn't.
Oh jesus, an actual axle? Way to truly shit on the homage to the original hog :/ that gauge cluster is horrendous as well.
Spartan 4s?
You've got to be kidding me...
At first I thought that was the case too. Then I got to thinking of some of the things I've heard of them concerning hiring people. They've had to not only build an entire creative team from scratch, but legitimize every single thing they do. A group of really smart people who know exactly what they want will figure out how to legitimize requests for things they don't need in a way no one else will notice. The rest have a tendency to come up with reasons and wholeheartedly believe in them (for better or worse). I think that attitude from the video in general is people trying to justify themselves for the sake of their jobs. Usually these places go bankrupt, but I have a feeling that wont happen for a while simply because of the name brand.
Ultimately, this whole Halo 4 thing to me comes down to whether they can cater to what I want. I'll rent the game for campaign. I'll buy it for access to a HEK level of longevity. If they try to tie this whole thing into GFWL and Win8 again, I'll laugh while watching their world burn.
Glad I never sent them a portfolio.
There are things I love and hate about the new armor for all the spartans. Also the multiplayer utilizes spartan IV's, which didn't have energy shields. So why do I see shield popping in that video?
343i sure fucking hates Bungie and everything they ever did with Halo.
Spartan 4s, not Mark 4 suits.
I'm confused korn, what is the problem with Spartan 4s, if the s2 and s3 projects were successful, as they are in the story, then why not continue said projects?
OH WAIT. Spartan 4's? Ok, I want to see more info on this. I want to see how this turns out plot wise.
bungie hates 343 right the fuck back
All I see so far in this thread is alot of speculation and anger based off of a tiny bit of information. We literally know almost nothing about the game, and probably won't know much for months to come. To be honest, I think most of the people here should hold their judgement and wait.
Fact: canon is already ruined.
Fact: they are taking greeble to a whole new level.
Fact: they forgot about the "infinitely variable transmission" part in the Warthog's description.
SPARTAN-IV's? Ahahahaha! Oh, that's too funny. Blah blah blah, we are 343i, blah blah blah, Spartan IV's are superduperawesomefun, blah blah blah...
343i must not like what Nylund did to the Spartan-III's. If you're going to go non-canon, why the fuck not just use regular SPARTAN-II's?
Fact: your first fact isn't a fact
Fact: your second fact is a fact, but not necessarily a bad thing
I don't know about the third thing :P
http://i.imgur.com/wHyUa.png
Ahahaha. Waypoint forums, you're not as bad as I thought!
No, their idea behind Spartan IVs is along the lines of the following:
Spartans held a physical limit on what their bodies could endure.
Spartan IIs overcame this limit through genetic enhancement. Experimental and high-budget prototype stage.
Spartan IIIs took lessons learned through Spartan IIs and applied them on a much larger scale. Lower budget test stage.
Spartan IVs are the perfection of the technique. Cheap as possible and pools candidates from entire human population.
edit: It's not about one being better or worse than another. This simply has to do with what point it is on the Halo timeline.
/edit
The infinitely variable transmission part was the whole reason the warthog had a suspension the way it did and "one" gear.Quote:
I don't know about the third thing :P
Am I the only one that realizes that the whole "We're not taking maps out of the campaign" and "Fans will be happy that the BR is back" thing is just to make the fans shut up and make them happy to balance out their skeptism towards the changes they're bringing to the multiplayer? It's not a big secret that a large part of the community has been complaining about Reach's maps that were ported into the campaign (though many think they came from the campaign) and lack of BR and demanded for these to be fixed in Halo 4. 343 Industries just wanted to point to people that they're listening to them and giving them what they want, and are not doing the whole "FUK U BUNGEE WE R HATE U CUZ WE HAZ TEH HEYLOWZ NAO AN U FEILED REECH" like some people here are suggesting.
Now, I for one am excited to see how this will shake up the multiplayer to bring us a fresh, new experience. Yes, I am somewhat skeptical about the whole thing, and no, I do not want Halo to become a modern generic shooter with nothing different to offer from them. In plus, we haven't even seen how this whole "perk" system will work anyway, so why judge it before knowing what it is?
However, it seems that the basic gameplay of Halo will still remain despite the changes, so I'm sure I will love it just as I have every Halo game so far (Yes, including Halo Reach to all of you "LOLREECH" haters).
And I'm loving the new art direction, from the new BR to the Warthog, it all looks fantastic. I'm glad they're changing things up in the looks rather than sticking to the old stuff we've been seeing for over 10 years now. It's time things look different, or else it'd get stale.
^^ This!!
I like how the multiplayer movement is faster, and that one guy even flied for some time. Health packs would be nice though, as would power ups too since they add map control to the gameplay. Chief looks 100 times better than the spartan IV's, I like the 'mechaish' parts of his armor.
Did anyone else catch the bit about them finding a plot reason for red spartans fighting blue spartans? My first instinct is to laugh and mock, but on second thought it would actually be rather entertaining to have an explanation. If nothing else, I want to see what they come up with.
Oh, I have a "compelling and convincing" reason for spartans to fight each other.
It's fucking MULTIPLAYER.
There, problem solved.
ANYWAY; I have about 1,000,000 problems with this but I'll wait until we get more info before ranting.
I doubt they've made it that far into the future. Spartan-III's were already so cheap that ONI didn't care that there were 100% casualty rates for most of their large missions. Them along with all their equipment. I bet it'd be cheaper to train 50 Spartan-II's and have them all die.
No, these Spartan-IV's look even more like machines than the Chief. I doubt regular humans would be able to heft all that armour without augmentations, but they can't handle them in the first place. 343i is just creating Spartan-IV's to make it look like they are doing something new.
Err ONI was creating the Spartan IV since ORION's conception, but in secret. Effectively, the Spartan IV is a more refined version of a Spartan I. At this point, anything done by ONI could seem plausible simply because they are devious and know so much shit. But if you don't want to accept that then that's your way of dealing with things.
TLDR: Read Glasslands.
but that's an even longer read!!
"Oh look a better debut for a game!...Oh god shit looks ugly this whole game is ugly this is a flop fuck [insert developer] and their shit they're doing everything wrong omg I know so much more than them."
...What the fuck am I reading in this thread? Mighty fucking Moses have some bloody patience and wait for more gameplay and information before you go spitting out all this bullshit "critique." It seems like this forum hates every new damn game that ever existed, and yet in the end you all still play it anywhere.
Obvously they're going to make RvB canon. What else could they justify MP with?
First one is a fact. Reach threw what WAS canon out the window, and the Forerunner books made it worse.
Second one is bad, because they can change the art style without detail for the sake of detail. I like the profile on the new stuff, I don't like the detail. Actually, the Chief's helmet bothers me because it's so blocky, but...I've seen worse.
Also, the worst part about Halo 4:
It's for the Xbox 360.
PC?
My comment about the 360 is because the hardware will undoubtedly hamper their ability to make it shine visually. If Bungie couldn't do it, I don't have much faith in 343i unless they are licensing CryEngine3 or something similar. I sincerely doubt that the Chief will look that good in the finished product.
Is someone able to re-post the images Bob did on the previous page? They've gone down due to excessive bandwidth use.
e: Looks pretty interesting, i'll probably just end up hiring it out. I still need to get around to playing Halo Anniversary too :x
They should also just give in and put it on PS3 as well. Halo is a cash cow, but I don't think any future Halo games are going to be as hyped and sell as well as Halo 2 and 3.
Of course it would. But they could have also held off until the next Xbox was ready and used Halo 4 as a launch title.
Yes.
And this is what I don't understand. The Xbox 360 is approaching EOL. Anyone who wants an Xbox 360 for Halo already has one. They would have bought it for any of the past 3 games that came out for the console. They aren't going to make any significant number of console sales by making it Xbox only. However, they are shutting out the PS3 and PC owners who either have an Xbox and refuse to pay for multiplayer, or have no intention of ever buying an Xbox. Look at Call of Duty sales...the game is multiplatform and it's crushing all exclusive game sale records. Also, the money is in the actual sale of games, not the hardware. The whole concept of exclusive games, especially on OLD HARDWARE, and even more-so when you are COMPETING WITH OTHER SERIES, is FUCKING STUPID.
This times about a million. I like where the game is going. But I don't like this whole huge fucking idea that exclusive games still matter. I am the type who will buy whatever console comes out at the lowest price next generation. No. Matter. What. Other than Halo, I only play console games that are multiplatform like Skyrim, Batman, NCAA Football (cuz fuck Madden, its shit), and... Thats really it. FPS games suck fucking dick on consoles. Playing an FPS on PC is where its at. All I care about going forward is pricing.
I think it's fair to say that Halo will never ever ever show up on the PS3. Microsoft would never let it.
I personally think we'll get a PC release, based simply on the apparent decline of console gaming.\
But it'll likely be GFWL with no editing kit.
And Mont Blanc is delicious.
I wouldn't count on it, and if so it wouldn't surprise me if they just used it as a ploy to move windows 8 sales or something, assuming windows 8 is out by then. And as you said it will probably not have an editing kit, or at least a decent one. I'd rather have no pc port rather than have one that just let me down anyway.
