Game of Thrones - Holy shit this TV show is awesome go watch it right now!

The whole idea behind that was that Qhorin Halfhand knew Jon would never be accepted by the Wildlings unless he demonstrated that he was willing to turn on his fellow rangers. In the book it's not quite as drawn out, the two of them get stuck in a cave with the wildlings outside, and (and I can't remember the details) they end up fighting to the death in much the same fashion. Qhorin knew he was going to die, and by sacrificing himself he gave Jon more credit in the Wildlings' eyes than Jon had before. I wouldn't expect them to trust Jon fully yet either, but it's enough that they're willing to let him into their encampment.

n00b apparently has read the books and already knows all this. He's just pointing out that people who don't ready the books have no idea about that.

I've never read the books and don't intend to until I lose interest in the TV series. I'm keen to avoid the same frustrations I felt when I watched the Harry Potter films after reading the books :p

What I'm saying is that I'm sure there's more plot than what they're showing in the series. As a viewer, I'd have no problem with them slowing it all the fuck down to keep coherent (and more fleshed out) stories instead of trying to rush through 3 side plots in one 40 minute episode.

Well if it makes you feel any better, they're splitting the books into two seasons from here on out. So the subplots might be half as quick, and more fleshed out.

I just read the third book this summer, so I wasn't the happiest with the 1st episode because so much was changed. Hopefully they fix some of the things they changed as the season progresses.

the central plot in the books go no where because george gets lost in side story's.

i completely understand why some things are different, because there HAS to be an end goal for the show or it'll just slowly die.
