That's gross, you are gross. And not much people have liquid nitrogen around to overclock their cpu to 8ghz. Also, seriously don't get the 8400GS. It's a waste of money. Get a DX9 card in the price range of it, it will be much better.
Show me.
What's wrong with that? It keeps it cooler lower than just regular fans do. Plus that means I can overclock really well. : )
Who want to explain to Xet why thats a bad idea? I tried, he ended up spamming my window with insults.
Hello, I'm guest posting on this account. My usual nick is Moto7451 over at OCForums.
Using your Air Conditioner to cool the inside of your case is actually a good idea. I have a feeling that you may be thinking that this would cause condensation, but this is not the case. Think about it, a cold drink on a hot day forms condensation but a hot drink on a cold day day doesn't. In this way the CPU becomes the hot drink and the A/C makes it a cold day, and dry (air conditioners remove water vapor from the air), inside the case. It's a great way to lower your CPU's temperature. Remember, every degree you reduce the ambient temp, you reduce the CPU's temperature.
From a human comfort stand point... maybe not the best idea but it won't cause the room to be very warm :D.
My room gets hot sometimes. Several degrees hotter than the rest of the house. People walking in ask me about it, and I just point to my PC.
Hello i am kempez over at OCforums nice to meet you too.
See how easy it is to just copy the sites link from the picture and look up a username and try and act like them?
Please dont confuse yourself with the thought of a air conditioning unit being a viable way to cool a computer system might cool it down but it's just not preacticle unless your impatient/foolish enough.
Well, this isn't my PC, it's my brothers. He won it at Quakecon.

And it's attitudes like that which are why no one takes you guys seriously.
Drop the attitude and go join a real computer forum like OCForums and I'll gladly confirm who I am via a PM. Consider it an invitation.
My brother asked me my opinion of Xet's setup and thats why I went ahead and posted that. I don't see why it would be considered unpractical, all it requires is a simple air duct or to put the computer in front of the cold air. How hard is that? When you come inside on a hot day doesn't it feel good to stand in front of the cold air? How difficult is it to do that?
Oh and the proof is in the pudding... er case modding
http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/8/22420372694.jpg
My case project (the one on the left) next to Legionaire's (my brother). And before you jump to the conclusion that we're one and the same, no my brother has his own account there under the same name as he has here.
Woah snowy, your bro got lucky heh, great setup. I can only wish of that :P heh.
Now that I've reclaimed my account....
The Coolermaster Case is awesome. I wouldn't pay $800 for one (although its a deal considering that most paint jobs by Smooth Creations cost a few limbs) but I do like that case. Awesome how he won it, <3.
$800? Bloody hell, I wouldnt ever pay that much for a case, unless I was a millionnaire, to me cases dont have to be fancy, if money was no object then I'd have a fancy case yes, but to me spending the money on the actual parts therefore it effects what you actually look at and do is far better. Yes some cases can help your pc go faster due to air circulation and stuff but doesnt make THAT much difference
Well, you can get the case without the secksi paintjob for like $260 I think. Cheaper after rebates too.
Also, the painted version is actually $899 dollars. The price for a paintjob like that is worth it if you're going for a showcase PC, but I would rather ghetto-paint the cheaper one with an airbrush.
I suddenly have the urge to cut a stencil and find a spray can.
I have a great setuo, but first to organize it to perfection.
Here's a higher quality pic of my PC's innards:

Yeah, my bro got pretty darn lucky. He gave me the thermaltake orb master, because he's getting a new cooler! :)
Here's my pics:
The wire that you see in the middle of the panel fell down when I was taking pictures :( But it's back in it's right place now. So just image the side panel without a wire going right through it :) For the most part, I have a pretty clean PC.

I would have more on my computer but the battery on the cam went out. More soon...
The Logitech X-540 speaker system is basically a square Logitech X-530 system with a separate controller for volume. Sound good though.
Yeah I just got them a day ago. I love them, the sound is very crisp and it gets loud for the size of the speakers. Only wish I had a surround for my TV area.
Oh god. That's a Logitech G15. WANT.
If that TV isnt there tommorow..well...hehehe
Everyone loves my television. Also it is a g11, but really is the say keyboard though. Also I bought everything on my own... No help at all. and I just turned 18. Got the tv when i was 16, and build the computer 4 months back. The draw back is that I do not have a car. I will soon but no car now. I would say my room is worth (Brand New) $6000.
Ah, a G11. I guess I wasn't paying attention to the lack of an LCD screen.
Nice, I have the Logitech X-540 speaker system too.
It's awesome:worship:
You guys should see the new logitech g15 keyboard and g9 mouse! Played with them at Quakecon... They are, by far, the best keyboard and mice that will be on the market. The g9 looks/feels kinda like a Fatal1ty mouse, but it's way better.
The g11 is the same thing as the g15, only difference is that the g15 has an 1cd screen. Also I love my mouse, no need to change, it is a razer diamondback at 1700dpi. Very smooth. The only problem is the side buttons but I never use them anyway.
FireDragon welcomes you all to his crib....
Anyway, yea, heres where i basically live for most of my days...in the dark!

O....M.....G :gtfo:
:awesome:
Any reason it's set up like that?
Lol. I like where the imaginative comments are going :)
The real reason is that I was banned from using a computer for about 1.5 years, and the drawer was an inconspicuous place to hide it.
Liar.
Kybo didn't know how to put everything together into a real case at the time, so he tossed it all into a drawer.
I think the Mickey Mouse mousepad adds a nice touch to your setup kybo.
Also, buy nao.
Finally got my Core2 Quad, 8800GTX SLI rig up and running.

Took some pics with my webcam, hence the bad quality. Its amazing the whole system has a total of 15 fans inside of it, and doesn't make a peep, even with all of them running at full power.
I guess we can expect great things from you now once again ^^
Just got my desk. I really like it, though i am going to put the shelves on the other side so I can see inside my case.

Laing D4 (second hand, got it for $30 off the OCF classifieds)
Dual 120mm rad, forgot the manufacturer.
Coolant is a mixture of Pentosin (very very poisenous =D), Iodine (very very small amount, forgot how much because I mixed it a year or so ago) and distilled water. I think at some point I'll get a blue highlighter and dip it in there to make it all UV reactive xD.
It's all rather old, I haven't had the time or money to update it, but it still performs great. Damn near ambient temps...at...2.2ghz...

Picture of Desktop
Lucky me, this computer was a gift. My computer before this was ancient. 166mhz Pentium 1. 128meg of RAM in 3 separate sticks.
It's an already opened G965 board, which I accidentally grabbed instead of the P965 one. The store didn't want to accept it back since it worked fine -___-.
I've tried upping the FSB by 50, 100 and 150 mhz, neither of which worked. I've also tried upping the voltage and replacing the northbridge heatsink, which didn't help. It's just stubborn =(. Apparently I have one of the better boards though, most won't go past 280 or 290 while mine hits 320 before the SATA chipset conks out and it won't boot.
Well, if we are talking about its overclocking ability, then no, the Pentium (Or Netburst as I will refer to it from here on out) is not "ultra fail", it does its job quite well. In fact the whole idea behind Netburst was to overclock it, or well clock it higher because factory clocking wouldn't be considered overclocking. The Netburst was designed back when there was the massive GHz war and when the more GHz the more "power" your processor had (at least to the average consumer, but thats still the case now because they think higher and more numbers means more performance not taking into consideration anything else like Architecture), so Intel had it made. They made a processor that could achieve a high operating frequency at the cost of its heat output, power requirements, and over all performance. Compared to most other processors of the time (AMDs line) the Netburst (pentiums) were "ultra fail" as they were just super clocked, overheating, glued together pieces of mess.
just upgraded :)
put a 8800 GTX in the case, and it barely fits. lol, but it works wonders. I used to have 2 6800 gs's in sli, and this bad boy over doubled my score in 3dm06. Now i get over 13k. still havnt cleaned up the wiring though... had to move the hard drive bays around so the card would fit, and just wanted to get it up and running and test the bad boy out first.
might put up some picks later of the computer when the motherboards blue led's are turned on, but i have to go into the bios to set that up.
set up
e6600 @ 3.4 ghz- 40C- air temp in house is ~30C, so its not that bad for air cooling with a 46% OC
GTX @ ~ultra speeds (nvidia wont let you go quite as high on the memory settings.. damn ntune...)
2 gigs corsair DDR2 800- @ ddr2 870
Asus Striker Extreme
320 gig SATA perp recording Seagate barracuda hd.
160 gig Seagate SATA hd.
Plextor SATA dvd burner
zalman 110mm blue led, copper fin cpu cooler (9700 i think)
antec 900 gaming case
neo he 500 PSU (need a new one, 8800 start screeching sometimes in games because it doesnt quite get the power it needs)

That's my ENIAC right there. Weighs 30 tons, fills 2 rooms, and each chip is as big as a hand. Requires re-wiring for every new calculation, but that's technology.
Wasn't that built by Charles Babbage? Looks a lot like the one in a portrait...
Nice XD
Rep for the both of you!
Holy guns galore 0.o
Is that really your desk? Please tell me that's a real SPAS-12! How much do you want for it!? I WILL PAY MONEY!
nice spotting the ninja text lol
Don't make me stab myself in the gut again :(
hahaha. way to make me laugh hard!
So I was cleaning my parents old computer (the one with 64 MB of RAM) and found that it was covered with about half an inch of dirt. I didn't think of taking a picture before the cleaning, but I did take some after with some of the dust taken out pilled up in a mound.
Outside with dust on mound after cleaning:
Inside after cleaning
I had to lol so hard ^^
Actually my comp looks worse right now...the Motherboad is lying on a cardboard right now....:(
Lol, when my dad decided to salvage the windows 98 desktop from the attic (it had 64 MB of RAM plus a 200 Mhz P2, ati rage card, and a 20 gig HDD that was upgraded to 80 GB last month), he had to blow it with a leaf blower. I'm serious - it was that dirty. Then he refurbished it and is using it as a server in his office, the reason why he bothered to upgrade the HDD. His main computer is a Sony VAIO SZ laptop though.
I would like to take a picture of my desktop setup, but my parents have banned me from touching their 6-MP digital camera after I got into big trouble at school for photographing an annoying guy, getting Reaper to PS his pic, and broadcasting it.
heh, i got the "meh-machine" put back together. guts were free, but i used the old case (in the opening post of this thread) to build better internals. i just threw it in a new 30 dollar raidmax case w/ psu and took the 2nd dvd drive off my primary pc and put it on this one. only thing it's missing (for operation) is a hdd and OS, which i'll yoink out of any old pc i can find. after that i'll be adding a tv tuner card and other things.
basically going to be a party rig, for when my friend comes over and for media.

YAY! I have been waiting so long to post my new computer in this thread. There is very little XPS left in this thing (only the ram, hard drive, dvd drive, and sound card).
I give you:
My new computer! The XPS was named Gary, but I think this qualifies as, well, perhaps one of Gary's budded offspring. Therefore I will call it Bud.

Gimme a break, it's my first time doing cable management. Hell, compared to the job Dell did on the cables in my XPS, this is fucking top-notch.
OK, so Bud's no ultimate gaming computer, but I think he's a pretty damn good budget gaming computer.
Important specs:
Processor: Q6600 quad-core 2.4 ghz (will be overclocked once my new heatsink arrives)
Videocard: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS- not ultra high end, but still a wicked sick card
Mobo: EVGA nVidia chipset 680i (incompatible with the heatsink even though the website lists them as compatible, hence the "new" ie "replacement" heatsink)
PSU: Thermaltake 700W ultra mega mondo thing (so I never have to ever ever worry about enough power)
RAM: 2Gb DDR2
HDDs: 1TB worth of 7200 rpm seagates and WDs
All wrapped up in a ridiculously huge Thermaltake full-tower.
Oh, also 3520x1200 pixels worth of LCD monitor glory.
It would be virtually silent but for the fan on the heatsink that came with the cpu. I gotta get that replacement heatsink soon.
Edit: Oshi I forgot my camera was in super hi res mode, and I'm too lazy to scale down those images now. Thumbed, so click at your own risk.
Sweeeet.
I just ran the 3DMark 06 benchmark tests on my new rig. My old puter scored 3600, which at the time was respectable. The new one scored nearly 11000.
I can't seem to track down what the average scores are these days (all I'm turning up is scores fro 2006, and we all know how laughably slow and crappy computers were a whole year ago) but still it seems 11000 is something to appreciate.
I'm happy. =)
I got tired of having that non-fitting CPU fan duct lying around, so I decided to take a hacksaw to it and make it work. So, I cut about an inch off of both pieces of it, and taped the filter end to the case panel, upon which I offset the other end to go directly over the fan, then made a duct out of, uh, duct tape. Now, nothing will go to the CPU but cool, outer air. It ain't pretty at all, but it works :)

Maybe I'll redo the attachments with fasteners and glue, and use something else for the duct, when I get around to it.
haha^ duct tape ftw
Duct tape is awesome. Anyone who disagrees is a commie bastard.
Duct tape or not, you did a really shitty job. :p
It works very well. Lowers my temperatures by a couple of degrees, more once the computer's under load.
Are there two rigs? Or why are there is a pair of keyboards and mouses?
dual monitors ftw
