And since he was only on the Forerunner art team, I expressed how much I hated the new marines and pelican, at which point he said that he also disliked the broadsword and the new UNSC aircrafts in general.
When people say this it still bothers me. It's not really so much that it's "CODification" of any kind because a lot of other FPS games use it (Tribes, Battlefield to name a couple), but rather pulling Halo to current FPS modernization. But I can see why the modernization bothers a lot of people, mainly because Halo has been so stoic in its gameplay philosophies in comparison to the other games. It's obvious 343i is just trying to keep Halo in the FPS race by modernizing it as well as bring in more players. It is a business strategy. However, as an artist and fan of the series, it's easy to be irritated by that fact.
I also agree that the art assets of the UNSC aircraft were bogus and a bit awkward looking. UNSC stuff is supposed to be crisp, slightly curvy, and sharp. I really felt like the curvatures were too liberal this game, albeit the weapons and vehicles look good. Marines are kind of cliche, but I do think they are realistic, even if they are useless half of the time. Still not seeing what the problem with the Forerunner is though.

I wish they kept with the Halo 3 forerunner style. That shit was awesome.
The new stuff almost looks like it came straight from Tron.

"Modernization"? If we're talking proper modernization of the competitive FPS genre, we aren't talking about perk systems or other fads. We're talking about theater mode, file sharing, gametype and map customization, online stat tracking and the like. Halo 4 is actually a regression, considering how Reach did everything better.
Also, all of the new CoD-like elements in Halo 4 suck ass.

I think Halo 4 is proof that a franchise cannot be successful on its name alone. It takes a quality comapany to make it successful. I'm going back to following Bungie and just tossing Halo 4 in the closet. Unless an ODST sequel comes out (and it's good!), I'm not buying another Halo title.
I mean, look. Here's 343i, with the biggest (or at least damn near) franchise for the Xbox and they've failed miserably. Their sales were based solely on the fact that it was another Halo title. Remember back before the game came out? All the "I'm buying it because it's Halo." remarks? That's all they had going for them, and it's all they probably ever will have. Customs used to be fun, forge was a blast, and theater was useful. Now customs are a wash, forge sucks, and I can't do a damn thing with theater. Matchmaking is shot to hell (minus some golden playlists), the campaign was too short, and Spartan Ops has become an experience-farming whorehouse.
I think it's fine that they're putting something in, but they never should have broken or removed what we had in the first place. That's like buying a kid batteries for a birthday present and not getting him the actual present. It'd be nice if we could have our cake and eat it too, but I'll be damned if I let 343 have any of mine.

This is still my favorite game of the series, despite it's faults.

Yeah I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Also, the Lich is one bad ass piece of covenant machinery. One of my favorite things in the game.

I'll admit Theatre mode, file sharing, and customization have all been lackluster as a result of 343i not picking up on important bugs and other obvious issues. However, calling the game shit because of those is simply barbaric. I also think Halo 4 does better than what Reach did at a gameplay level. It's sad knowing what you loved in past games has gone south for the time being. I personally think the game has succeeded in being a pilot for the next trilogy. However, it just shows the differences in opinions I guess.
As far as talking about FPS Modernization, I was simply referring to Baron's statement and nothing else in this thread. I was talking about perk systems and other fads if you want to know what I was referring to without quoted reference.

Halo 4 felt more "halo" than reach did, honestly...especially the multiplayer but I was glad to see no fucking firefight parts in the singleplayer
Plotwise...I still have a LOT of questions but it was enjoyable. Will have to replay not on legendary to really get a feel for it
edit: tbh almost all my complaints are art direction related

I tried out the teleporter one...killed me every time. Activates when crouching, forget if thruster pack does too

Unless you played SPOPs first, then you would see firefight parts in the campaign
