Yeah, you're not really getting what Game of the Year editions are.

Then don't call it Game of the Year. For example, why should they be calling their product "THE game of the year" compared to say, Fallout 3, who actually won all of those titles when it came out?

because it's not called "the game of the year".
it's called "game of the year" edition.
Microsoft is far from the only publisher that does this.
Go to Walmart and look at how many game of the year editions there are for everything.
It's pretty much what took over the old platinum version edition, except this time they don't care about how many copies it sold since they just want to sell more. It's really annoying to see a goty edition for some shit game no one has ever heard of.

GOTY as in "this was the last year in which we'll make any content updates for the game"

So they're done with Halo 4 DLC and stuff?

Can they go back and add a few maps to ODST now? My Johnson has been tingling for a fresh firefight since 2010.
