Nice work, do you have any brushes you'd recommend to a noob? (aka me :P) , I just started back modelling/texturing, my first one hasnt been great, I'd post it but dont want to thread jack.
psst, its called making your own like everybody else
Out of all the brushes that are out there, when I went on a downloading spree last summer, I only found 2 brushes, out of about 400 I downloaded total useful. You're best making your own.
e*
Here's one of my experiment renders. I like it better than the other one I posted, so here it is, I guess. And yes, the shadow is disgusting

Yeah... Chewing someone out and then raising yourself above him doesn't exactly strike a high note with me either.
No one ever raises themselves above anybody, no one can. You either step up or you fall short. There's no grey area here. I gave him my honest opinion and because I'm the only person in this thread to give actual advice I get blamed for stepping on people.
I'm sick of this fucking protagonist-antagonist based fucking community. You all need someone to post your indignant opinion towards, first chance you can get, to look like some sort of eHero, a good guy. I don't try to do anything, I don't elevate myself above anyone. Myself I am a not perfect at what I do, but I have spent enough sleepless nights and 3 am bedtimes to tell you that I have really really tried at something, and my opinion is worth sharing, regardless how fucking pompous you think I am. If it helps at least 1 person, It wasn't a waste of time.
Quit mistaking knowledge for righteousness. That's your self reflection at work, not my wrong doing. I have experience, I give my honest opinion. There are no bad guys here.
I'm really sick of this noob syndrome thats taken a hold of people. Theres no such thing. You either have the will and the balls to fucking try at something, to dedicate yourself to it entirely or you fall short at it. The problem is, none of you seem to REALLY try as hard as you really should be at "your thing".
You think I give harsh fucking posts, try posting some of your digital work at polycount forums, or gameartisians. You'll be bawing in your creative shell for an hour because a whole community of Tweeks just gave you the most honest expanded critique you've ever had. I had just as rough a time starting out if not rougher. Try being trolled by Veegie, the lord of face eating about how mediocre and pathetic your work is. As much of an asshole I thought he was, I realised he was right and he is now a valid respectable person to me.
I know people are starting out, I know people aren't quite as good at something yet, that's why I test people. If you can't handle the burn and the assholes then you really have no chance. If you really loved something it wouldn't matter how fucked up things were.
Passion == Arrogance at these fucking boards.
Btw Veex, your AR normal has too much contrast in the blue channel, needs too be whither and brighter....... or your line detailing on your diffuse is WAAAY too evident and dark. Let your normal/bump map do those, and only really accentuate those lines by the material AROUND the lines. Utilise natural grime and dust collection and expand on your oxidisation colours on the metal to bring out the edges and the convergance of each particular piece. The whole thing looks monotonal and seems to be a waste for 8 bit per channel RGB. It looks almost cel shaded.
Really look at it, does it look like a gun to you?
Well sorry for jumping to conclusions when lately whenever I post all I get is nagging about how much of a shithead I am.
