I was under the impression that we had already demanded answers from Infinity Ward, and they essentially confirmed that it was very much like the Matchmaking we've all seen in Halo 3. This didn't make us happy.
Guess I just dreamed that... :raise:
IF the matchmaking IW does is somehow good enough to make up for the loss of dedicated servers, I hereby give every one of you the right to throw it in my face. However, from what we've heard, that won't be the case.

Tell me how that makes the multiplayer 'dumbed down', just because it's different? Tell me if you've even tried it, to have a first hand perspective on it?

Fine, maybe "dumbed down" isn't an accurate phrase. I will hold my stance that all instances of Matchmaking to date have been very much "inferior" to dedicated servers however.

That was exactly the point, I hate how people are always so quick to call something 'dumbed down' without adequate justification.

Fair enough, but I'll go back to our original argument about my never having tried IWNet.
It's fully possible that I'm just sticking my foot in my mouth and that IWNet will be the greatest revelatory experience since the invention of the dedicated server. BUT, given Infinity Ward's response thus far, and my experience with matchmaking in the past, I'm not expecting it to actually be very good.
Re: The Upcoming CoD: MW2
That might be true if you're the kind of person who just doesn't like matchmaking. Personally I quite enjoyed MW's matchmaking system on the XBOX 360, so if IWNet works just like that did, I won't have any problem with it.

I don't particularly mind matchmaking (it works well enough on the Xbox 360) but it's certainly not an acceptable substitute for a dedicated server, so far as PC online gaming is concerned. What it really comes down to is that when I go to game online, I want choice, I want options, I want variety. With a dedicated server (and preferably modding available), the possibilities are vastly superior to what matchmaking can offer.

While I can agree with what you're saying, I'm going to go ahead and be a heretic by saying I don't really like dedicated servers. For new players, or those unfamiliar with PC gaming in general, they suck. It's never fun joining a populated server only to be the only person there who doesn't know everyone else, or have to deal with whiny shitty admins.
Even though you can just leave the server and join another one, it still makes a bad first impression on new or casual players - a demographic that IW is obviously trying very hard to cater to.

Instead they will be matched with players they don't know who are just assholes that want to cheat, teamkill, teabag, and trash talk. :neckbeard:

It's not like you don't get that in dedicated servers too vOv
