Wow, thanks for the heads up. Hopefully this gets fixed for 1.9 :v:

New 1.8 pre-release is out for the interested, apparently it still has the memory leak though.
The old minecraft versions did have an end though- the LotR Middle Earth group actually hit it.
Edit: Having looked up the Far Lands, I have no idea what exactly the LotR group hit, but maybe they just counted the beginning of the Farlands as the end of the map. It would be a pity if endless ocean replaced the Far Lands completely. However, since they were just a glitch anyway, the idea of ocean seamlessly blending the edges of the world isn't so bad. Sounds like it would be nice if they were farther off though.
Where the farlands used to be is now the edge of the map. You simply walk off the edge and die.
1.8 is out btw, still full of bugs though!
Personally I'm just going to stick it out till 1.9, assuming it will have NPC's. The 1.8 doesn't really add a "goal" to the game for me as I find myself doing exactly the same things as before, just with some new types of terrain to explore.
Wait, they release 1.8 as a pre-release, saying it says a ton of bugs, so you can find them and they can fix them......then they release 1.8 final which is full of bugs.
What?
It's almost as if we're testing a beta
just to be clear, the reason that farlands "glitch" happens is because of the data types used for the variables that control shit like distances. idk if youve ever programmed something using doubles or longs or something, but if the numbers get too big they start oscillating between negative and positive numbers. at least thats what i imagine is going on, i could be wrong. im sure most of you knew that already anyway though.
in terms of oceans, it would be cool if there were like... seas and islands. we have the sea thing already with large bodies of water, but im talking like, two completely disconnected land masses separated by an ocean.
also after playing terraria, like, alot, i have decided it would be cool if the world were a little taller, and there was a hell biome under ground.
No, a tester leaks 1.8 and it spreads like crazy and people bitch and moan that the unofficial release has bugs. They then say why the fuck not and offer the unreleased version as a pre-release since it's pulling in a good amount of bug reports. They fix a lot of bugs and release the 1.8.0 for public beta. Over the next couple of days, they will start fixing bugs in 1.8.1, 1.8.2, and so on.
