Re: Modacity Minecraft Server
If we restart, I'd upload the world for everyone to make schematics of their stuff. Large things would probably have to be divided into smaller chunks, since worldedit doesn't like to paste huge.
Or, once we find a seed, we could use something like mcedit to paste structures in before we start actually playing in the world. I've never really used the program though.
Re: Modacity Minecraft Server
I don't think setting up more than one server would be a good idea. The traffic in the one we have is low enough as it is; two servers would make it even more dead. I think we should restart it and decide (vote?) on whether to have a creative or survival server. Personally, I'd like to see a survival server with no item spawning at all (even admins), or admin editing, and then install one of the economy mods, and maybe some other good mods. An economy system would be especially interesting I think.
I do like creating giant things with an endless amount of materials at my fingertips, but I think the game would be more interesting if it wasn't like that. I wouldn't be opposed to copying over some of the existing structures, though.
Re: Modacity Minecraft Server
Hmm.... if I could finish my city and have it pasted in I'd be perfectly fine with having a survival server..
Re: Modacity Minecraft Server
I completely agree with King. Completely fresh server, no powers.

Agreed, While I enjoyed building my palace with all these powers; I'd enjoy even more building things just like it with more of a challenge. I miss the looming threat of creepers stalking your building grounds, while annoying, it still adds more flavor to the game. So does the threat of night. Building by day and holding yourself up tight in your fortress or mine, waiting for the crack of dawn.
Everything I build now, while cool, just feels kind of, "bleh" when you realize it was all built with the aid of super pick, god mode, and infinite resources at the flip of a switch. I'm all for a new survival server with imported structures; and I support Kings idea of an economy mod, or something similar. :like:

Same. It's a lot more rewarding when you create something without the aid of super powers.
If/when the server is restarted and changed to survival style, what is everyone's thoughts on installing Mo' Creatures? I've been aware of the mod for awhile, but I never really read all the way through the thread until now. It's sounds pretty amazing. It's not just a bunch of creatures they threw in the game that look neat but serve no purpose. They drop different items, you can tame some, breed some, ride some, etc. (Edit: Read the section on horses to get an idea of how extensive the addon is)
Those are the type of mods I wouldn't mind seeing added (mods that make the game more interesting as opposed to more easy).

This game is honestly total shit. I have no idea how it's even managed to last as long as it has. It appeals to an incredibly small audience and has practically no objective. Your goal is to survive by mining and building dirt huts? It doesn't even have quests to give meaning to playing. The reason our server died down the past 5 months is because the game has lost all purpose. The only grand goal of the game I could see was to build cool stuff, so I thought I'd just make it easier for you guys to do so with the mods.
IMO, playing legit a total turnoff. It's like...let's say I were to join a server with lots of crazy stuff where people with literally no lives have been building stuff for the last 6 months. I'm like, "WHOA! That's so cool! I want to do something like that!" I would think their dedication to the game is insane (aside from thinking they are total losers); however, when I start thinking about the amount of time it took them with no lives, it goes from "I want to do something like that!" to "wow fuck this gay shit, I'm bored," and I don't even want to try.
If you don't want to use any of the mods because you are up for a lame challenge in your "my wood house is better than your wood house" pissing contest, you don't have to. If you're offended by anyone who gets enjoyment from building big stuff with infinite item mods because they don't want to waste half their time doing miscellaneous bullshit, then play solo.
Of course, all of that just my opinion. This just comes as a surprise to me that people want to waste time mining to waste time building. I refuse to start a server that I personally wouldn't find any enjoyment in. However, if you guys are really sure you want to play the classic way, I'll suggest a compromise. Server ops (people who have the ability to actually control the server; ie me) get WorldEdit permissions. Infinite day would only be enabled if I'm playing and night pisses me off. Creeper environment damage is disabled. Mobs only spawn outdoors or in mines (so if you want to build something cool, you don't need to have torches literally everywhere). Craftbook wouldn't be enabled unless you get incredibly bored of playing classic, which frankly I'm alright with since it's not updated often enough. I can't remember anything else.
e: actually if I used craftbook at all, it would only be for [gate] and [bridge]
