You do realize that there is a body under that armor :)
All the armor does for the concept is too make them look fatter, when in fact, it is just protecting them. Remember, that is metal.. If you made the armor normal size, imagine how anorexic looking the guy would be underneath.

Just a quick design on a mech, might go back and paint in a scene with him firing, but most likely not as the team the concept is for will prolly revise the design, so I will have to go back into work.

I am conceptualizing (holy shit that is a mouthful) a mech, in other words, making a simple design, and if the team likes, I will have to make about 10 sketches of different views and functionality. So I do not have time and it would be pointless to paint a whole scene of something that might not even be used. L2concept.

Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
No, hunter doesn't read.
Uh, I just have something with the back guys lag. It almost looks like another arm. At Least make it close to the other lag, unless your not going for a mech, but an organic.

Havn't posted any content in a while, so I guess I will post this. Basically in any thread concerning weapon concepts for halo, I have always heard the covenant shotgun idea mentioned at least once. So I decided to just fill in a side view of a possible type of covenant shotgun. Credit to bungie for the base idea.
Also malloy will be modeling this.

It looks okay, but it really doesn't look very functional. Why would 3/4 of the gun be just the handle, and only the front is for shooting. Where do all the innards go? seems like it wouldn't work very well.

the shape and proportions on your stuff is really bad and the perspective isnt much better. the spartan hardly even resembles what its supposed to. id look at a bunch of screenshots from in game or something

Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
I dont understand why you make your work so.. well not sloppy, but like kinda messy with the colors. I did my first picture in photo shop with the tablet, and it was not that hard to make it look realistic but also clean.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
It's a choice of style.
Also I am not painting from references josh, and I prefer to do a messy style, though I can paint just as sharp as you can.

If you want to get paid for this stuff, then I suggest practicing cleaner methods. If this is a hobby, then great.
But chains, word to the wise, anybody can do something sloppy, so there isn't much to brag about there.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
No it is a choice of style, I can paint perfectly fine in a non sloppy way, I just find this way funner. Drop it, I know my abilities, and what I can and can't do.

Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
I think people here need to learn to respect other peoples work, especially when they have no idea of the skill that person has, and ESPECIALLY when they have been doing something longer then the other person.
Even then, when a person has just started, we must show respect to their work, and critique in a polite manner. I could care the fuck less if you do not like my style, stop looking at my art then, but NEVER assume that the person does not have the skill to go beyond what they do. Art is a choice and is a freedom to express how I want to see the fucking world, real or not. I find it less and less appealing to post in this forum because the negativity towards people and differencing opinions, and harsh, uncalled for comments. Grow the fuck up people.
Moving onto you josh.
Josh you are extremely cocky. You painted an existing character with a probable reference, and to be honest it is great for a first time tablet painting, but it still is not anything amazing. Do not ever assume that someone can not paint right, because in the end you might just get your ass kicked.
To prove this I just did a 45 minute sketch of a barbarian without references:
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...tled-2copy.png
It's not meant to be viewed this large, as it loses some composition, but oh the fuck well. It's only meant to prove a point, that if I wanted to take the time and effort to paint, I could and can create "un-sloppy" pieces. I prefer to explore and learn my own things though, so quit busting my ass over having fun.

Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
I'm not cocky. Your just being a dick about how you take your crit. You know your wrong and wont want to fix it. That doesn't make me a cocky bastard like you put it. Either act your age, or stop being a fuck who thinks he is all that. Seriously, you cant call it art if it doesn't look good. Just because some random dude in the old day was on drugs and spilled random paint strips everywhere and now its being sold for lots of money, doesn't mean you can do that, and think it looks good.
Your perspectives are off. I suggest you go and learn the shapes on a human and the biology of a human, that create the shapes. Seriously, you really need to do this. You make alot of stuff wrong, like sometimes you make short hands compared to the body or weird shaped arms and stuff.
Second, your art is either blurred so badly (now your starting to stop doing that) and you are just making shades of color. Art isn't only about having a shape with shades. There is also details and other things to consider.
You are talking about my lion? OWAI, seems like I started yesterday, and still am able to make things look "nice but not amazing" as you put it. Really grow THE FUCK UP. Your such a prick. Talking about how we should be like kitties when talking to you, when your going around and talking like that to others. I had a reference, hell you should have one too. that's how you make things. You don't just go around making random shapes and go: Well I have an awesome drawing cause I didn't use reference.
Well then, thats your lose. I didnt trace, if thats what ur implying, your a dumb nut. Boba/flyinrooster can back me up cause they seen my broadcast it while I was making it.

Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
Proportions have been your weak point for a long time. Though I like the style you're going for, your work is never finished. Unfinished work, poor proportions, and what looks like rushed work really distracts from it. If you have the skill to make it better, let's see some it sometimes. I know you're still practicing, but you need to venture outside your comfort zone to improve. I'm not saying these things because I don't like your art style, or because I don't think you have any skills beyond this, I'm just giving my honest 2 cents here.
edit: the argument stops HERE

I realize this post may make a few of you upset. And in my own defense, I'm not angry or anything, just thought I would calmly state my opinion.
So anywhozle,
Your paintings do have some trouble with proportions, practice makes perfect. Go crazy with colors, most famous artists did. If you're doing it for fun, who should try to stop you?
Also, finish some of your damn work Chains! :v:

I think posting work in the studio is an open invitation to crit. The crit thread that I made was simply made to post small bits of work that didn't deserve a thread or a post in a gallery. This thread isn't only where he posts his work, but it's a place for discussion. Really, nobody is going to say "I love it, nice work" if that's not their opinion. Would it be fair not to post any crit in his thread? I don't think so, it's hard to improve by hearing praise only. There's no rule against posting crit in here either, and as much as it's Chains' thread, it's a message board centered around creative work.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
Chains, not using references when they are clearly needed isn't something you should be proudly beating your chest about. The barbarian looks okay but it's quite clear that you didn't use a reference because the anatomy is so far off. Use some next time, and it will look much, much better.

And I agree. I just think sometimes people get personal and a bit anal about giving crit. They tend to think they are gods who know what is right for the other person. Which is usually not the best way to approach giving crit. Crit should always be constructive. Not a shouting match at who knows more. Crit can be welcomed or ignored, but it should also be given in a manor that it can be accepted without invoking eRage.

Care to define what "good" is? Firstly thats your opinion, which quite frankly sucks balls, but thats besides the point. Art isnt only about pretty paintings, its also about making bold statements, making people think. Art is a hugely broad subject, there are tons of different styles. You however, seem to think there is only one, go look at some of the best art in the world please.

I'm not going to lie, Chains hasnt mastered perspective yet yes, however how do you think he should improve? Just think about it? No, he needs to practice, perhaps educate himself about art fundamentals, but the most important thing is practicing and to keep trying.
And for those of you who keep bitching about he never finishes pieces of art, you realise some of the best pieces of art in the world, are unfinished?
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
You don't read what con posts do you? He said not to continue this. So im not. But really, you know chains is doing it wrong. He was told how to correct his work. There was no need for him to jump on my work to defend himself.
Edit: To the post below:
So according to you, because i showed an example, you had to go attack it, so that you can defend yourself? Lmao, your truly pathetic.
Ah. One more thing. why would I be butt hurt? Oh cause I don't suck as much as you. Durr, that's what I thought. :)

Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
So I got 3 hours of work done, obviously his is nothing compared to josh's lion reference picture paintover painting.
Plan to do the arms and legs tomorrow, maybe the arms later tonight.
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...chains1/dw.png
I have to skill to paint in whatever style I want as said, it is not because I do not know how to do it right, it is because I want to do it my own fucking way in my own fucking style. Fuck.
edit- I hope this works, zoomed in to show detail:
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...titled-3-1.png
edit- need to fix perspective on the rib cage tubes, going to add a double joint on legs, make forearms longer.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
one more time and you get a 3 point infraction for insubordination, chains.
josh, don't respond.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
This is nice. The neck region lacks some definition, but the concept overall (at the moment all I see is the head and shoulders) looks good.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
Arms are a bit long, even though it's 'alien'. Normal proportions the wrists would be near or right next to the waist.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
I discussed this with primo too, being the forearms are robotic, I wanted them lengthened, the drawn out legs will also be different, I plan on adding another joint to them.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
study anatomy and perspective please. these are the things i've noticed that are consistently wrong with your paintings. Always use a human reference when drawing, or get one of those wooden figures. it would help you ALOT.

Yes i mess up on anatomy and perspective and the perspective is wrong on this, but it is a imaginary alien, quit bitchin about anatomy that i made up for it. And the aim was for it to be plastic, metal would have a higher specular, more specifically a light-weight endurable plastic, that will house some pistons (the holes) that will create shock waves from his hands. :eng101:

Should've done it from the front, it was a spin off of the e3 promo poster, it showed an smg beside a spartan's leg, I did it the other way around with a silenced smg.

Re: [GALLERY] Chains Scribbles
At first I didn't see the smg clearly because the grip blends in with the leg plating way to much. The barrel dosen't resemble a silenced smg much either.
