^ My computer setup.
Core 2 Duo E6300 (soon to be Q6600 or a new chip, just waiting out the current market a bit)
ASRock 775Dual-VSTA (soon to be Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L with all solid caps)
2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDRII-800
XFX GeForce 8600GT
The monitors are each 22" Acer widescreens, the input devices are the Microsoft Wireless Bluetooth USB Laser Desktop 7000 (I swear to God that's its full name...), and the speakers are Klipsch Pro somethings (forgot, hahaha).
Then here's my gaming area:
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/2...minguv1.th.jpg
TV, 19" monitor for Xbox 360 running at 1280x1024, Xbox hooked up to regular TV. The sound for the 360 goes into my computer's line-in port, and I pump it out through my desktop speakers. The router is a WRT54GL running DD-WRT v23 sp2, configured with an open, free wireless network (but capped at a certain rate). On the router iptables is set up to disallow any packets from travelling from wlan0 to br0, so there's no security risk.
i guess this qualifies for this thread

animal crossing is awesome.
You're playing it on PC? hows?
animal crossing on dolphin :iia: (yes i own a legal copy)
giving one of my comps away to my little bro and waiting till the new asus laptop comes out.
E: 2k posts
the next ee is upgradable?
Hes talking about something else I think ahah, you can upgrade them with just hardware mods to my knowledge, which you can do on anything.
Liquid Cooled triple 120 fan rad Extreme Quad core
I run alot of air through it too as you can see
8 GB ram
Vista x64 (you thought x86 was bad)
Lian Li case
etc
http://exchange.mxotech.com/xtransfer/pc_.jpg
You should seriously consider rewiring your PSU cabling and redoing your watercooling loop. Your pump will be able to push water a lot better even if you just set the intake barb to face upwards (it will be easier for it to prime itself).
That looks like some kind of mad scientist computer O.o
no kidding lol... that shit is sloppy.
:lmao:
:lmao:
the thing screams... fastest computer i've ever worked on or built..
It's very overclockable that's why the spot cooler is there for the Ram bank
The PSU cables are all tucked in underneath.. this Lian Li case has the PSU down at the bottom and the cables are tucked where no air is needed
it took days of thought to fit the water loop in...that triple 120 rad is huge...i had to modify the case and rad installation hardware to get it to work well
so I'm not changing that
the head pressure on my pump is really good so I dont have any flow issues with it
The loop is only for the CPU and the rest is all air cooled
the other cables are all managed and away from the mobo so that is also good
There is also a fan controller and thermal sensor system which only added to my cables but it was needed for oc'ing
The 2nd front bay has a hot swap SATA HDD in it for backups and complete system images (750 GB)
I have a 2nd vid card for ATI crossfire but I haven't put it in b/c the case will just be too full and air flow will prob develop poor flow areas
i replaced the stock passive north bridge cooler with an active cooling one
With 8 gigs Ram i was able to turn off the swap file alltogether. I get no lag at all with any of my running programs since they are all in active memory...i click and it opens no matter how long an app sits idling.
All in all, i've oc'd it more than anyone else i've seen with Liquid and the QX6700 proc. I almost got times similiar to the best oc's of the x6800 which is so much easier to oc with only 2 cores producing heat... TEC cooling of course blows my oc out of the water (pun) so I'm only comparing water loop systems.
I super pi'd it to 1 million in about 9-11 secs (i think...its been awhile)
and i stress tested the hell out of it... my highest oc's would eventually fail so i backed off a bit for stability
so its a 2.66 ghz by default and i had it oc'd between 3.7 and 4.0...over 1 ghz oc'd and i could get more with only 4 gigs ram (2 gig cards don't oc as well as 1 gig cards)
i actually don't need to oc it permanently right now b/c even at defaults the thing rips
when my hardware gets really out of date (in about a year or 2) I will oc it again to keep up or just build a new one with TEC cooling.
Kinda senseless...I don't want to see how much $$$ you have to spent to maintain that thing (electricity costs you know).
One thing I don't get...for what purpose? You don't put the second ATI in there so no crossfire...so no gaming rig? I don't see what you want to do with that thing :P
you're kidding right?
it goes fast with no lag and runs games really well. If and when i need to i will put in the crossfire...for now it purrs like a kitten no matter how hard i push it.
Maybe if i told you I work on a computer all day and night long...If you do that you will want a pc that doesn't quit on you ever.
hey, ive got like 15 pc's and 5 servers. you want pics of them? none are as extreme as this thing is.
My computer never quit on me neither. What do you work on with your computer?
so its like this, i can have all my editing tools up, be working on client networks in multiple remote sessions (diff types), outlook, as many ie or firefox windows i want (i do a lot of online lookups and referencing), multiple virtual machines, etc you name it ... and then open up halo for a while and play w/o any problems. All this while another profile is also running with all its apps. that's alot and i do know computers.. most wouldn't do that at all and if at all, then poorly.... and all that within the available memory... i dont care what anyone says, no page file = faster
Are your PC pics in here? there are too many posts to sort through.
i'd love to see it.
Is that cocaine dust by your mouse?
Also, mine is cleaner :D

My Camera is shit, I know.
Holy shit Timo xD
Look through this thread and tell me that you can spend at least 5 minutes to reroute the wiring so it looks as decent as some of these please. If you are spending thousands of dollars on computer components you might as well treat them decently. Having wire management that is sloppy like that not only looks like crap but puts stress on components/the superstructure of your case, affects airflow negatively and just seems flat out lazy. Look at this case for example:
Beautiful wiring/tubing job and at most all the guy had to do was spend an hour or two tidying things up.
EDIT: Here's another one:
The main reason I am pointing this out is because while your pump (I'm assuming it's a Lange D4 or D5) has a lot of head pressure it still can have trouble priming while the top barb is not facing upwards. I have a D4 myself and have found this out personally, and my brother has a D5 which suffers from the same issue according to him. It's a limitation of the pump because that is the way it was designed to be operated. I also found out that this also causes extra wear and tear on the pump because it has to work harder, and while the MTBF on the Lange pumps is very good I'm sure you want your pump to last as long as possible, and simply rotating it around a bit will help with that.
Another thing, letting your extra video card sit there doing nothing because of "airflow issues" is stupid because "by the time you need it" your hardware will be outdated anyway and the extra ~50% performance boost (if you are lucky) will not help you much at all. Most games don't care if you have crossfire enabled because the performance boost isn't really all that much. ATI generally does have good driver support for older products but what happens if they stop making crossfire profiles for your video cards and any games you play now act as if there is only one card installed? Then you have yourself an expensive paperweight. Blaming airflow for not running Crossfire is either stupidity on your part (You have a big ass fan literally right over your video card) or simply sheer laziness, that is the bottom line.
Your CPU will probably be fine for a good long while but even now the Penryn CPUs are way faster clock for clock and they tend to overclock extremely well, even on air cooling (I've heard reports of people easily achieving 4Ghz on AIR cooling). These CPUs are going to be what developers target, in particular the Nehalem generation with insane amounts of memory bandwidth and up to 8 cores. A lot of games are finally making the shift to Dual core finally, some games that will be released this year are going to support/utilize up to 4 cores (I believe Crysis already does) and it isn't hard to see that by the end of the year when the octo core CPUs are released that they will begin to target octo core setups for the high end as well. I can easily see quad cores becoming mandatory for games within the next 2 years and octos being the recommended spec.
Basically, if you think that your computer is going to stay in the high end spec range for more then 2 years without upgrades then you are delusional :D. Enjoy your hardware while it is high end.
Here is my mid-high range machine, same pic as before but I'll replace it with a better non-blurry screenshot later. The 8600 GT is actually in my second bedside-content backup/portable Source modding machine (I'll try to get some pics of that to spice things up a bit too.
legionaire, if i had a problem with my stuff i'd disclose that right away.. i don't at all so...
hardware is always evolving.. my stuff is already a little out of date but the thing still does the job and then some so...
my case is as tidy as you or i could ever make it... its a small case that is meant for air cooling alone. i adapted in the loop b/c i wanted to and i wanted to oc the hell out of it so....
if you know the case i have then you should be reasonable about your expectations...
You are using a full tower case... if my case were a full tower than it would look more to your liking...
anyway, i just disagree that's all... i appreciate the time you took to post and i'm glad to see that there are some serious pc builders in this community, and i love your pc its awesome.. good job!
:/
i'm lovin The Beast pc... that is just plain imaginative and wacky... why not its all just ducting... i'd close the case and put my dirty clothes pile all around it to hide it... then take it out once in awhile to scare the kiddies.
Hey, I'm just a computer facist, sorry about making that post sound so angry xD. Thanks for the complement. I could do a lot of work on mine (in particular my tubing is getting very thin ;___; ), but I'll save that for when one of these comes down in price :3.
Here is my secondary rig:
Overall a nice system although the PSU that came with it isn't the best and a standard sized unit won't go in. I have a Delta tri-blade fan in there that can blow at a bit over 120CFM when maxed, but it is ear piercingly loud so I have to turn it down via that Zalman fan controller xD. I need it though, the hard drives and the shitty Celeron D in there get pretty hot. As soon as I upgrade the main CPU in my main rig imma install my current C2D in that box and have a very nice PC there. Oh, and before anyone asks - yes, that is a cassette drive on the top :3.
it wasn't a diss...
I actually do like The Beast a lot..
very imaginative duct work, i've done some similiar setups b4 so been there done that...
my last ducting job (with tape and cardboard) was to help the server get its hot air out of the small closet it was in and help avoid it feeding hot air into the 2nd server that is also in the closet... got to be a little sauna in there... the ducting helped out tremendously
fyi - the air flow in what you call my ball of mess is actually pretty great... the case is designed to outperform other air-cooled cases by about 25% or so (something like that, the exact number is on the Lian-Li site). The spot cooler is something you may want to look into... cheap and works great, plus you can set the fan to 3 different speeds depending on noise lvls and air flow needs... its doing a great job of cooling my bank of 8 GB ram.
so kudos man.. no diss
legion, i have built a very similiar pc as the one posted above.. its eery how similiar...
yes, that case comes with a crappy PSU... i had 2 fail on me
i replaced it eventually with another one that did fit and is still working... I forget the model/make now since its been awhile...
i luv that case and its handle...even tho the handle feels a little fragile it hasn't broken yet...good for lan parties if your into that.
That reminds me of my desk before I got a good mouse pad. I had went through a bunch of the cheapy plastics ones. Then I decided to get a metal one. eXactmat, its one of the sturdy ones, 1/8th inch aluminum with anodized sides. Or get something like it, cause that looks like some heavy wear. Oh and I rewired my computer how I should have the first when I reassembled it after the RMA, my temps drops 2-3 C at idle just from moving the wires out of the way. Also, whats up guys, haven't been on in a while.
Nice rig. Whats your CPU?
It's the same one as yours. I'll try to get new pictures of my computer after I vacuum all the dust out.
Edit: Nevermind...I just dropped my camera when I picked it up to take a picture. It broke =(
Tha the Apevia Case with the 3 old school meters in in the front freelancer?
If so I have the same one.
sorry about the no content post, but I just can't leave someone hanging:

finally got some new pics of my computer, i found the camera :D
got the new Fans and keyboard on the way and i'm going to get some tubing to try and tidy up my cables, cause it's a bit of a mess at the moment :p
i like it tho :)
E: also that IDE HD is just floating there for a minute, it's getting whiped and i'm giving it to my mate so it should clear up some room soon :)
I wasn't sure if I should make a whole new thread about this or not, so I'm just going to put it here and go off on a quick tangent, and if anyone sees fit this can be moved to its own thread.
Anyway:
y?
No seriously, I get that a lot. What's wrong with Dells? I'm a Computer Scientist, so I know a fair bit about computers, and in my experience Dells are generally well built and affordable. The only downside I can see is that they're virtually impossible to upgrade, but I managed to even do that with my current computer, which began its life as an XPS.
I don't think that Dells or any brand name computer is bad(doesn't work like it should), but you can get the same hardware in them for much cheaper. Or build a better computer for the same price that they sell a slower computer.
The Dell Inspiron 1705 model is guarenteed to fail if used for prolong gaming. If I didn't have insuranc eon mine, I'd be out 3,000.
Don't forget overpriced... i cant think of anything also atm
yeah, this is a post your pc thread, not a why dell sucks thread. let's get back on topic.
LOL :lmao:
There is no god.
lmfao aerowyn.
i want one :o
oh shit...you should have the most rep on this forum :lmao:
Holy shit, I want to draw furry of my computer, and give it ears.
haha oh wow cat case +rep
>:3
Very unique; never seen something like it.
paint that shit hot pink with neon green flames and we'll have a winner.
I personally found the dual floppy drives funnier xD
Cute case.
ZIP Drive? :O I forgot those even existed. Haha I love it!
heres my piece of C$@7 computer... ima getta betta one in october.

At least it's clean. And you have a fucking huge mousepad.
Also, do I see a blurry dock of some kind in the first picture?
you may or may not have seen the Sex case thread i made regarding me getting something cool and original.
however due to the imports in australia being a bunch of scum fucks the case i was looking at was so fucking expensive it wasnt funny anymore.
so i'm going to replace all the fans different colours and do some funky shit to the case to Give it some coolness.
i literally had no choice.
It's OK Zet, YGII, but until then, stop trolling just to post against me.
Then you are awesome, and I applaud you for getting a great case, before most of the world jumped on the bandwagon.
ftfy.
You are excused... You crazy Kangaroo!
ok wow my Birthday just went by(april 14) and i gotta whole new setup for my computer.. all i need now is a Computer to match it...
this is my old one

OH GOD BODZILLA THE BEAST IN YOUR SIG AKAY YOUR OLD PC IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS MINE
The case anyway
I was gonna buy that desk, but then I got a better one...
umm ok:eyesroll:
i'm going to get this computer pretty soon...

it's gonna be awesome....;)
EDIT: the gauges monitor the: system temperature, RAM usage, and hard drive usage...:)
yeah, i'm hopefully going to get it before June so that way i can get XP and vista on it.. because june 30th Microsoft won't be selling XP anymore...:(

e: I found some Windex and cleaned my laptop. It's nice and shiny now.
Can you run windows games on Ubuntu? I think I might switch. :o
EDIT: OH GOD CLEAN YOUR LAPTOP :gonk:
It's ok, I got it at Fry's Electronics store. That was their best one they had that day.
sweet.. i'm gonna get mine from www.digitalstormonline.com
I forgot to show you my server I set up a couple of weeks ago:
Yes, it is this old:
Older than my little bro, and that guy's been around as long as I can remember (not really, but he's still been around long enough to be in middle school)
Heh, anyway, this little guy's exposed to the internet.
Check him out:
http://scrooge.dynalias.net
Please by all means, try to attack this little box. It's being attacked anyway- better the vulnerabilities be exposed by someone who will at least brag to me that they compromised it.
e: hm, it occurs to me that one reason I would want to avoid posting that url is that now it's going to be indexed by search engines and other less friendly webcrawlers... oh well.
When did you buy that?
The stone age?
Still......cool little computer for hanging out all these years.
AWESOME COMPUTER PLUS REP
