When should we expect the server to be updated?

I need to generate a really good seed first. Then I can throw it on the server once Notch fixes the official Minecraft server release. I heard that it's broken (not sure what the problems are).

I know a couple of my redstone devices borked in 1.0...

What about Bukkit?

Also, are we going to have a custom height?

I got a server running last night with a new world, but I need to find yet another new world because there's no snow in it. And we can't do a custom height unfortunately. No mods support it and I hear that manually editing it is rather tedious and unstable.

I'm starting to hate 1.8+ terrain generation. It's so bland and boring, while before it you could have mountains everywhere, and really cool formations (Glacier, gargamel).

Don't know should I be happy or sad, taller worlds sound interesting and would give the ability to build taller things, but my crappy copper already has trouble downloading the regular terrain.

Are NPC villages extremely rare now? In a 3000 block diameter world I generated, there's only 1.

Come to think of it, I've noticed the same thing. Also, I seem to have gotten myself stuck in someone's basement. Their ladder stops just above my jump height. Every time I log in I'm stuck in that bastille of incomplete construction. It mocks me...
