The only problem with dating the Earth is that the science itself has numerous flaws. Carbon Dating isn't nearly as omniscient as people believe it to be (considering the unpredictable and incredible forces of nature). It's ultimately a bunch of guestimations, though it still does provide a rough image of certain objects' ages.

Re: Pictures Funny and/or Random
guesstimations as in accurate to within a few thousand years, give or take.
when you're dealing with numbers over a hundred million, a few thousand (give or take) is PLENTY fucking accurate.
If all you heard was "Lalalalalala" you should probably get your ears checked.
@Neuro: Yeah. Of course, people always expect a pinpoint answer with science nowadays, so I was just stating that the sciences surrounding carbon dating aren't pinpoint accurate like some glorify it to be. But don't worry, I'm not one of those hooligans who thinks the Earth is 4000 years old. That's just silly.

Re: Pictures Funny and/or Random
Pin point accuracy is relative to the size of the target and the margin of a miss.
If you are looking for something within our timelines then even mere hours can be pin point but seeing how we're talking billions of years here a couple thousand years is a pretty pin point margin.
It's a lot funnier when you watch the video (and fuck you I don't care if this isn't the Youtube thread, but I'll put it in Spoilers to make you shits feel better):
Looks like you guys should avoid KFC for the next few months:

Do you mean to tell me that i said you where behaving like a child when you refused to acknowledge basic proven understanding of the world around us, when all evidence discovered so far supports this view and then you substitute it with something that has no evidence to support it because it fits your fairy tale?
How dare I.

To be technical, pin point accuracy is only relative to the size of the pin.
However regardless of whether or not carbon dating is 100% accurate, it's accurate enough to be able to debunk the whole "couple thousand years" idea with ease, so the point is moot. As are most points brought up by religious folk.

I like to think the Earth has almost no definable date. That makes things more interesting and mysterious to ponder.

Facts are created from a bunch of people who agree upon a single opinion.
That is why people hate the "What if" scenario.
"What if" time is going faster due to the opinion of the universe expanding. Wouldn't that make carbon dating hard to measure?
People who are not open minded hate having their views questioned.
Of course in the end, you fuck with the person you played the "What if" game with and say: "Of course, it's all a matter of opinion."

Re: Pictures Funny and/or Random
@KingFisher: Before even getting into semantics, your logic is flawed. We are not observers outside the system, we are a part of the system. The short and sweet version of the laws of thermodynamics is that everything is connected. Thus the time involved in the decay of carbon-14 is also expanding and therefore the measurements are sound. It's like taking a thermometer and stretching everything about it out at the same rate at any given point. Sure, the scale is getting wider and wider, but 20 C is still 20 C because the properties of the fluid have changed with the physical dimensions of the instrument.
And now for the semantics:
Some people like to pose the following scenario:
Define the colour "red" without referencing any object.
Now, most people will falter and point out an object anyways. Then they ask, what is red? In my opinion it is "x."
Well, news flash: opinions can be wrong.
What is red? Red is visible light between 620 nm and 740 nm. Outside of those extremes it's either invisible or orange.
The thing with science is that ALL "what ifs" are considered possible, but ONLY the ones that have enough evidence to back them up are treated as fact. If tomorrow someone came up with ABSOLUTELY IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE that time were indeed somehow speeding up due to the expansion of the universe or something, then after an exhaustive peer-review session science would probably call that fact, and re-evaluate other "facts" based on the new evidence.
Playing the "what if" game is fine and all, but you cannot use it in a debate unless you have something to back it up with. That is the difference between opinion and fact.
Aka, America has a lot of people that couldn't compete under the USA team.

I don't have to be specific to every last detail on hallucinogens or barbiturates to get the joke.
Of course, this is Modacity, so no one here knows how to laugh at even the concept of a joke.
You'd have to be on some serious drugs to have a CoD game play like that. Ever.

I figured it out. The bitchy twelve-year-olds moved on to MW3, BF3, and Halo: Reach. I don't know about the PC version, but I think the 360 copy is safe from bad kids.
As for Minecraft... I'll ragequit anytime someone shanks me in a cave again. At least the Modacity server isn't 100% like that.
EDIT 1: I found several potheads on BLOPs. That might be a contributing factor.
EDIT 2: The only thing I'm blazin' is the midwest during a drought.
