Nice new grippy silencer, but can't that, and the other grippy parts just be done easier with normals?

...yes? If you remove the muzzlebrake and screw on a silencer, eighteen inches of the barrel wouldn't magically disappear. :-|
Well, considering the silencer is just a cylinder that we add onto the barrel, it would be the same length barrel in the final model wouldn't it?
Yes, it would. However that is not the case in the pictures shown so far.
Hopefully, when you say "in the final model," you imply that it's going to be fixed?
I'm implying that when the sniper model is done, there will be a cylinder added on the end. All it is, is a normal barrel with a cylinder on it. Why would the length be different? Just because it changed in WIP pics? Seriously people, common sense.
I don't think you understand. The silencer doesn't slide right onto it. It screws in about a quarter inch, and makes the gun look longer because it extends it about 8 inches.
