At first I thought it was top down view of a beach.
I'm not seeing the dust storm.

That's a top-down shot of the martian surface, the black trails are where dust devils have been; the ground underneath the red, rusted soil we're familiar with is dark.

Re: The best pictures you've seen.
Those black trails are the actual surface? It's amazing just how much damage solar winds can do to the surface of a planet.
Is it bad that my first thought was the intro cutscene to baldur's gate? D:
Also, in response to the petabyte picture: Is there a name for that method of displaying words? Or is it just a stylization thing?

Typography I guess, closest method I can think of.

Re: The best pictures you've seen.
Typography is the type itself; graphic design is the arrangement of the content. The two have a rather large overlap in the marketing and advertising industry these days.

There's a website online that does something similar with statistics, i'll see if I can grab some when I get access to my harddrive again.

At 1mbps I doubt you could actually get 20gb fast enough to exceed your limit.

Re: The best pictures you've seen.
I can't fucking stand when they group together the speeds of the US as one statistic. The country is one of the largest on the planet, covering several hundreds times more land mass than those little countries. It should be broken down by state, high speed, dsl, and dialup. In the northeast, you can get a 25/15 plan for around $50/mo, depending on your contract. DSL gets you maybe 3/1 for $30. Dialup is 56k for $10-20.
In the middle of the country, the networks are substantially less built and it costs a lot more per megabit. Hell, you might not even be able to get anything above 3/1 DSL for $60/mo. This is why it needs to be broken down by geographical location in the US. Plus, it's a hell of a lot more difficult to rebuild the entire infrastructure (and the first one in the whole fucking world!) of a massive country. Assholes.
My little brother has a 3 set picture of that same photo, the first one being a bit calm, then a wave rising, then the last photo actually being that one.

It's fine for surfing and gaming. Heavy downloading requires prioritisation though (but now I have 10 gb onpeak and unlimited offpeak so it's a non-issue :iamafag:)

haha, you'd be surprised. every time i get a new steam game, i'm immediately faced with two dilemmas: when to download it (as it takes forever, and i can't game or youtube and download at the same time), and how much of my cap it'll munch. fuck telstra and their fucking bullshit monopoly, no matter which isp you're with, they (and therefore you) are subject to the whims of that bunch of holier-than-thou ripoff merchants who assume all internet users are silly old people who don't realise when they're being fucked without lube
