WIP: Sandbox
Repost from Gearbox ololololololololololololol
---
I got his idea for a map a while back... a map where you create your own scenario. No set objective; you choose the enemies, how many allies to bring, your aresnal, your wheels, the weather, and then theme music for your ass-kicking, to boot.
This map is called Sandbox for a reason; it's meant for you to use anything and everything possible at your disposal to have a good time. No time limits, no objective, no noob teammates to teamkill you for the sniper.
The player will start in an underground bunker. There's a garage with one of each vehicle, and connected to it is an armory with all of the weapons. Connected to the armory is an elevator that will take you to an observation deck, where you can check your current set up.
There are buttons in the garage that let you define how you're leaving; the outside BSP can be chosen from a couple different times/climates; grassy, desert, swamp, nighttime, and snow. A button nearby will dispense marines for you to take with out outside. Another set of buttons will define what enemies will spawn when you leave (covenant, flood, sentinels), and a last set of buttons will determine what music will play when you leave. After you set up, you can go arm up in the armory, head up the the obervation deck to see what you'll be walking into, and then you hop into a vehicle with some (or no) marine buddies and go whoop ass.
So far, I've gotten the armory in-game, and for the hell of it, I populated it. Sure, I'll have to repopulate it after I add to the BSP(s), but I was bored, and I wanted to test my skill with the HEK, since I haven't touched it as of late. Here are some pics:

In case you're wondering, that's the armory drom d40, customized a tad. Don't worry, no freaky camo flood will pop out and kill you.
...maybe.
UPDATE 3-09: I picked up working on it again somewhat, and finished the bunker entrance doors. Here's a vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmxlFbx1yYY

UPDATE FROM 11/14/06:
I've finished the garage, nabbed d40's elevator shaft, and added them onto the armory. Along the way, I learned my way around the UVW unwrap modifier a bit, and spent most of the night tweaking the light shaders and running debug radiosities. Let me tell you, the halogen on.shader_environment is very, VERY bright and VERY powerful. I swapped out a couple of the fuorescent light panels in the garage, replacing them with the halogen ones. The whole garage was lit up.
Here's a video, showcasing the layout so far, and the portals; I put an exactportal on every doorway. For those of you new to mapmaking, observe how portals work. If the player cannot see a polygon through a portal, the engine doesn't render it. Learn how to place portals, as it will save framerates on maps that are well designed.
(My site's bandwidth was eaten up. New video link sometime in Feb.)
And without further ado, here are some pictures... :o

Re: WIP: Sandbox
Awesome, I love this idea, I hope all goes well! Do be sure to eat every once in a while when you start scripting it tho- it's gonna take days.
