Sorry if the thread title is too startling for the context. Now, I'm not a hardcore gamer, and I've never claimed to be. But today I was reading a webcomic I've frequented for many years, and saw something that made even me cringe. Ladies and gentlemen:
Because I'm a deep lover of sociology, I wanted to know what the more experienced and loving gamers of the world think about this. Some say they feel exploited. Some say they feel things like this further the industry. I neglected to include a poll, because I think this is something that can't be adaquetly expressed through a few choice options. Post your opinions if ya got 'em.

Re: The End of Times for Gamers?
Uhh...wow. That has to be the most retarded thing i've ever seen. Even back when they had that Forza Challenge thing on Speed channel or whatever it was on, they went too far with it. How do you even get in those things? Everytime I see the people in those, I wonder how the hell they stumbled upon this. They usually aren't the best, and they most likely don't live for whatever they do. It's pethetic.

Re: The End of Times for Gamers?
I thought it was supposed to be something about games, not drama. :(

Re: The End of Times for Gamers?
Yes, the current trend is turning series with great games like CoD into franchises that suck (Treyarch). Developers use to know when it was time to let something die, but now great series are turning to shit, and they aren't being permitted to rest in peace. Instead publishers tell the devs to stick a T-Virus in the series and continue to shit out games. Resident Evil, Call of Duty, Mario, Grand Theft Auto, and many other series just need to be let to rest.
Banjo-Kazooie was a good example of an industry turned corrupt. Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie: GoodAwesomeMy favorite two games ever. Nuts and Bolts: Crap. I mean it wasn't even a true BK game. They just stuck the characters in there.

Did anybody else see it?
THE GAME
So basically they get a bunch of randoms who like teh vidya, stick them in a house together and make them compete? With video games?
WHAT A TWIST, SURELY THIS SHALL ROCK TELEVISION TO IT'S CORE
The thing that shits me about how gameing is presented on TV is that it seems to be dumbed down for the 12 yr old market. Infact the game related media in general (I've never read a bigger rag than a console specific gaming magazine, 360 or PS3). Even worse, people (adults) still buy/watch it in droves, and will defend it to the grave (years of being social outcasts must have made them clingier then the superglue between my middle and ring fingers).
And it's on SciFi??

Re: The End of Times for Gamers?
We start with a community that is small, but functional. Even in small numbers, they are able to do great things, some even making a place in history. Then, the group's abilities are discovered, and anyone who wants a cut of it will waltz in, attempt to take part, and, whether they succeed or not, will pretend to be the original group. Of course, most of these new people will fail, and be a horrid mutation of what the original was. However, because it is now the majority, the system is basically forced to work for them, even if it is considered harmful. Sound familiar?
MOTHER, FUCKING, CANCER.
They can take this fabled "hardcore" bullshit. That's fine with me. Instead, I'll continue to be the real gamer. To me, that's really the best term left. These casuals in disguise who've only been playing games since Halo (2, usually) can be "hardcore" or whatever, and I will be the real gamer in the classic poorly lit room who's been playing games since the end of the 8-bit era.
