Halo PC Servers Crashed, and a Fix

UPDATE!!!
Roger Wolfson, the head of Halo PC's support team from way back when, has managed to do the unthinkable and INCREDIBLY AWESOME by fixing up the problem in an official patch. This hotfix comes in the form of a zip archive containing fixed versions of halo.exe, haloce.exe, haloded.exe and haloceded.exe. You can find the technical crapola and download on the bungie.net forums. A local mirror will follow soon.

As an added bonus, this fix breaks bitterbanana's aimbot. Suck it down, botfags! (Sadly, a few good hacks like Yelo battery also broke. Oh well. :()

Programmer Luigi Auriemma, known for finding the "haloboom" and "haloloop" crash exploits in older versions of Halo, has found another haloloop exploit in Halo's v1.07 Dedicated Server, allowing someone to crash servers by way of sending them into an infinite loop, a la previous versions.

Since Halo for the PC is no longer supported by Bungie, Gearbox, and Microsoft, it is highly unlikely that there will be an official patch for this. (EDIT: I just ate my words with a side of fries.) However, one of our community members has created a quick workaround of his own.

Please note that this workaround is offered as-is with no expression of warranty or anything like that (I'm bad at legal jargon). Use this patch at your own risk. Apparently, this fix doesn't work on the Halo dedicated server for Vista.

Well worth getting rid of the botters/exploiters though for the moment. Halo PC/CE is safe again for all 10 96,000 people who play it! Woot!

So what? Download it and then extract the files into your Custom Edition folder and voila? Or do I have to let it search for updates or anything?

Also, is there a list of the most popular or played maps on CE? I would like to have maps where alot of people play, but also good gameplay.

EDIT: Read on a bit, it's only temporary until the bots are fixed up for the new version (not surprising really), but it's damn nice anyway.
EDIT: according to some reports the main cause of this patch (server crasher) is back, although the source site for the new version is unavailable.

Too bad there's about 7 different bots for CE... at least one of which is certainly going to be updated :\

I don't play Halo PC/CE online as much anymore, but I'll still be getting this patch anyway, just to be safe. I'm glad that Bungie did something about this, shows that they care about their fans, even if they're playing a 5 year old game.

I don't think you need to patch if you don't host servers, you can still play on the old servers. Which means Yelo will still work, a little longer, at least.

I was in the chat with Luigi and Brandon when he found the exploit. There are so many apparently...

Oh well...I don't really care about this. Brandon even managed to fix this exploit manually on his 10 dedicated servers on 1.00 which were still vulnerable to the old exploit.

The cracked version has more players, no Aimbots as well and the exploit can be fixed back then.

Anyway, time to make the ASCII bypass for the [HIV] server...

So what is the exact update that I need to play in the most updated ones.

I uninstalled everything so give me the stuff to play the most updated version with all my old goodies too. Like my dev and shizt.

Halo should autopatch when you run it. If it hasn't, google for the 1.08 update. After that, download the 1.07 executable and replace the 1.08 exe. Then, use this to change the version ID to 1.08 for whichever game you're playing, so you can see 1.08 servers and use 1.07 things like Battery.

Well fuck me. I cant get it to update. I got a UI that checks for Updates and everything. The only ones are Halo, Halo, and Penis.

And their all empty.
